- Fair for Its Day: Having a tiny chinese boy called Ping Pong and the rather Blackface looking character design of Jim on the original cover may be a bit cringe-worthy today, but the main themes of the books are decidedly anti-racist and advocating a diverse society and the overcomming of predjudices.
