* ValuesDissonance: Due to the differing relationship in regards to black culture in Japan compared to North America, many things in the series and from staff can turn off western viewers (especially considering Rap's relationship with the black community). Infamously, Subaru Kimura created a set of bromides, with one of them depicting his face painted brown, which caused a lot of backlash in the west, but not so much in Japan due them not having a full view of the issue until the 2010's.

* WTHCastingAgency: One of the main problems onlookers have with the franchise is that, despite the music being heavily focused on rapping, nearly all of the main seiyuu lack a background in that musical genre (Creator/SubaruKimura as Ichiro being the sole exception).

* ValuesDissonance: Continuing from above, some ships that are extremely popular in the Japanese fandom are far less commonplace in the West. One of the most notable examples is Jyuto/Jiro, which is the fifth most popular ship in Japanese fandom based on pixiv art, but is almost nonexistent in Western fandom.

* BrokenBase:
** Around the same time the finals of the first Battle Season was taking place, fans from the Western and Korean fandoms dug up old tweets from Yuichiro Momose, the series' scenario writer, from 10 years ago, where he made pedophilic and misogynistic jokes (some being edgy copypastas from 2channel). Meanwhile, the Japanese fanbase hasn't heard of this nor cares. It turns out a lot of this drama originated from a biased mistranslation created by a disgruntled fan.
** ''Alternative Rap Battle''. Is it a fun title where you can play your favourite songs, or a [[AdamSmithHatesYourGuts terribly grind-heavy]] cheap game too difficult to properly enjoy? The Japanese fanbase has been vocal on their dislike of it, while the western fandom is split between those who love it and hate it. A lot of the complaints comes from the EarlyGameHell that takes a long time (and [[BribingYourWayToVictory money]]) it takes to even properly level up, and it doesn't help that the very first event has left a bad taste in many players on how grindy it was.
** From August 2022, the game is trying to introduce both easier (Reinforce ARB) and harder (Sudden Scratch, 1st division song remixes from ''Death Respect'') elements, plus occasionally Speed Match, to make the game more entertaining.
** Creator/SubaruKimura has not been looked upon fondly by the Western fandom for his use of blackface, especially in a music genre that originated from black communities. [[note]]For context, his agency promoted a set of bromides that included him in various comedic costumes. One included him with the intention of him looking like a rapper but his face was painted brown.[[/note]] Not only did he nor his agency never issue an official apology, but he went on to doing things like wearing a curly wig while lip-synching a rap song on his [=TikTok=]. However, this is not a big of a deal in the Japanese fandom in comparison because most of the target demographic there are unaware or don't like to discuss such issues.

* NoYay: Any pairing that includes Saburo, as he is the youngest character, being ''fourteen'' among a cast that primarily consists adults aged 20 and above. Jiro (seventeen) has it as well, to slightly lesser extent. However, this is mostly a Western phenomenon, as a few of his more popular ships in Japan involve Saburo and [[IncestYayShipping his big brothers]].

* EpilepticTrees: Since it was first previewed, many fans believes that the names of the composers of ''Pink-colored Love'' are actually [[Main/AlanSmithee made-up names]] as information on both of them (Amy Ray, ILLCAMP) are sparse and phonetically similar to "Ramuda" and "ill-DOC" respectively, which fits the song's [[DarkerAndEdgier disjointed theme and it being about Ramuda's true nature]], but later, it turned out that both of them are real composers.
