The Mushroom World decays to a barren wasteland along with them. The kicker? This is the true decision - as the Tower World later revealed the despairing Dreamer had long abandoned all their hopes and dreams.]]

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Weird Door, later known as Thera. The ModelMuseum outright says she was originally "a one-and-done interaction" until player responses led to her role being significantly expanded with more personality, dialogue, and a second appearance that leads into an entire level dedicated to her where she accompanies and works alongside you, a pretty great haul for someone who was originally supposed to appear just once.

* PanderingToTheBase: The ModelMuseum openly states that "Weird Door" was supposed to be a one-off character, but the fans loved her enough that when the game was updated she was given an entire new level focused around her. In it, she gets a name (Thera) and a body that lets her keep up with you, she has much more dialogue and interactions with you, you can flirt with her even more, and the stage outright ends with [[spoiler:you being given the choice to marry her]].

* BreatherLevel: The bright colors and friendly locals of [[LevelAte Candy World]] (if you [[PermanentlyMissableContent find it]]) are quite soothing, considering the horror-themed levels that precede it.

* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: Trying to flirt with the obviously {{Tsundere}} Weird Door throws it off its RiddlingSphinx routine.

* {{Adorkable}}: Gogi's cute appearance and character is endearing to the player as he dotes on the Dreamer and protectee, quite a lot.
* {{Anvilicious}}: It's important not to abandon your dreams even when reality crushes them, as they're what make you, ''you''. Giving them up means sacrificing that part of you that is vigilant, imaginative and optimistic in the face of all the world's hopeless adversities.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: From the HubLevel theme to [[TheMall Heaven's Gate]] shopping mall, several tracks are very catchy to listen to tunes with a 90s retro console aesthetic to them.
* BreatherLevel: The colors and friendly locals of [[LevelAte Candy World]] (if you [[PermanentlyMissableContent find it]]) considering the horror-themed levels that just preceded it.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: Trying to flirt with the obviously {{Tsundere}} Weird Door and knocking it off its RiddlingSphinx routine.
* GoodBadBugs: Interacting with the book in the [[AlienGeometries Mist World]] secret art gallery would cause problems whenever the player would try to interact with anything or anyone else in the game until it was patched after the version 0.2.5 update.

** Reuniting the lonely Dusty and his loveable dog, Biscuit.
* HeartwarmingInHindsight: You appreciate after playing the game how Gogi is a kind loving [[BigGood force for good]] that prevents the Dreamer from becoming completely nihilistic. The same can also be said for [[GuardianAngel The Dream Catcher]] working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the terrors of the night and {{Sleep Paralysis Demon}}s from [[PassedInTheirSleep directly attacking their protectee]].
* NightmareFuel: Some of the levels border on VideoGame/SilentHill1 like the Heaven's Gate mall which deteriorates into a MeatMoss and wire fence hellscape. The Fog World mansion, and the [[spoiler:pursuing monster in the basement the foolish King fears has already allowed to invade his fallen-realm. The NightmareFace you get from a SeaMonster shark that [[SwallowedWhole swallows you alive]] before your [[OminousCrack diving suit fails]]. Even the haunted school level the creatures that lurk in the darkness there don't attack but tell you to GetOut and leave this place at once.]]
* SugarWiki/SoShortItRocks: You can't save in the first game, though this is mitigated by its overall shorter playlength time.

** Eden meeting her [[spoiler:horrible demise in the maw of the great beast Edax, when she was trying to protect you and the dreamscape from the escaping ocean deity.]]
** Gogi's [[spoiler:HeroicSacrifice has his physical form perish in the arms of the Dreamer crying.]]

* WoobieSpecies: The rabbit folk of the Snow/Desert World. You feel their plight in trying to [[NatureIsNotNice adapt and survive]], yet their best efforts [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption only make life worse]] for themselves in the long-run.

* HeartwarmingInHindsight: You appreciate after playing the game how Gogi is a kind loving [[BigGood force for good]] that prevents the Dreamer from becoming completely nihilistic. The same can also be said for [[GuardianAngel The Dream Catcher]] working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the terrors of the night and sleep paralysis demons from [[PassedInTheirSleep directly attacking their protectee]].

* HeartwarmingInHindsight: You appreciate after playing the game how Gogi is a kind loving [[BigGood force for good]] that prevents the Dreamer from becoming completely nihilistic and working hard behind the scenes to keep the terrors of the night from [[PassedInTheirSleep directly attacking their protectee]].

* TearJerker: Gogi's [[spoiler:HeroicSacrifice has his physical form perish in the arms of the Dreamer crying.]]

* UnintentionallySympathetic: Because of his treatment at the hands of his abusive master, you feel sorry for the broken and bleeding [[spoiler:Mimic, even as he [[JerkassWoobie plots against you]].]]
