* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Masaki Tsuda ended up experiencing this. Upon his introduction, a lot of fans thought [[ItsTheSameSoItSucks he's just too similar to Nitta]] and found the RunningGag of him being MistakenForPedophile to not be funny. When chapters rolled on and his situation was shown to be an ''inversion'' of Nitta and Hina's dynamic, as well as shows his relationship with Haru is mutually manipulative, people started to ease up on him. It also helps that Tsuda doesn't show up much after his focus chapters.

* ViewerGenderConfusion: Ikuruga Kei; most assumed she was a man and even after being referred to as a woman several times a lot of fans still thought she might be a man. Not so much after the time-skip since she has three kids with a fourth on the way.

** Haru also gets this, as there are a few fans who aren't pleased that there's now a boy among the espers. This is despite the fact that his interest in Hina is admiration for her psychic abilities at best, and he has no ShipTease with any of the girls otherwise.

* NoYay: Some readers want to ship Nitta & Hitomi, due to Nitta being one of the few people who has the intelligence to impress Hitomi. Despite the fact that Hitomi is at the same age as Nitta's daughter Hina.

* NoYay: Some readers want to ship are split over shipping Nitta & Hitomi, due to Hitomi. While the ship sees some popularity because of Nitta being one of the few people who has the intelligence to impress Hitomi. Despite Hitomi, there are still readers who feel uncomfortable with the fact that ship because their age gap is pretty big, and Hitomi is at the same age just as Nitta's daughter Hina.old as Hina (Nitta's daughter, for reference).

Not a YMMV trope.

* AntiClimax: It's a series staple. The author frequently sets up dramatic moments as the {{Cliffhanger}} of one chapter, and then follows it up in the next chapter by [[PlayedForLaughs turning the serious situations into farces instead]].

* TheScrappy:
** From the anime, Mao gets this, as most fans think her inclusion is pointless as [[TrappedByMountainLions she never interacts with the main cast at all]]. She becomes a major character after the TimeSkip, but the anime ends right before that point.
** And from the manga, Masaki Tsuda. There are a lot of fans who think [[ItsTheSameSoItSucks he's just too similar to Nitta]] and find the RunningGag of him being MistakenForPedophile to not be funny.
* VanillaProtagonist: Hina, who readers consider to be one-note and static compared to every other character. Though she did have some character development (it's noted by Kei that she's got tamer when Kei is investigating her), but it's far more subtle.

** Hitoshi Maeda, Hina's HopelessSuitor, gets this from fans who ship Hina/Anzu or Hina/Hitomi. It may be one of the reasons he was AdaptedOut of the anime (although a more pragmatic explanation is that [[CompressedAdaptation there just wasn't enough time to fit his chapters in]]).
** Haru also gets this, as there are a few fans who aren't pleased that there's now a boy among the espers.
