* VanillaProtagonist: One of the show's biggest criticisms is that Hailey herself is not a strong enough character to carry the series and that most, if not all, of the other characters are more interesting than she is.

* AssPull:
** In "Get Whale Soon", Hailey fails to save the beached baby whale in time before the rescue crew does, but is able to complete her list item "save a whale" anyways by saving her neighbor's dog Winston, because the dog also has the family surname: Whale.

* QuestionableCasting: A.C is clearly a very young teenager, and short on top of that. So hearing the adult-sounding voice of Creator/JoshBrener, sounding exactly like his adult character from ''[[WesternAnimation/DuckTales2017 DuckTales]]'', can be pretty bizarre.

** Hailey herself, to a lesser extent. She is a SociallyAwkwardHero who is fond of superhero comics and bird houses, making her all the more charming.

** Oceanside High School- the school which Hailey and Scott study at also happens to be a real high school, despite its simplistic name potentially making some viewers believe it was created for the show. Notably, its real-life counterpart features the pirate as its mascot instead of the crabs.

* FandomRivalry: Like with many other shows before it, fans of ''WesternAnimation/TheOwlHouse'' were quick to deride it for not being "The Next Owl House" due to its more episodic (but still serialized) format, not having as many dark themes or solely due to the fact it's different. Fans were quick to point out to detractors that the show wasn't given the opportunity to enstablish its own identity and was being unfairly compared to an already completed show.

* LGBTFanbase: "Catching Felines" revealing that Becker (Scott's sister) is into girls and developing a crush on Hailey gave the show a sizable fandom in this category. This only grew as Becker and Kennedy became a couple in "Along For The Slide", while the show went on to have LGBT representation that was treated fairly normal and natural.

** The next [[WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil Starco]]. [[note]]One of the main conflicts in the series involves one of Hailey's list items being to kiss Scott, her best friend, before eventually learning that she actually in fact likes him. The fandom quickly connected the dots with ''Star Vs'' own memetic pairing between its two main leads, and proceeded to meme it, either teasing the fact that Disney was trying to pull another Starco stunt, or worrying over whether Hailey and Scott will be able to work as a couple, since Starco became quite the polarizing ship as the series went on.[[/note]]

** "Catching Felines" reveals that Becker has a crush on Hailey and plans to kiss her someday. However, this doesn't affect much of, or provide an extra obstacle to Hailey's task of kissing Scott in certain episodes, such as "Kissed Opportunities." Which could've added an extra layer of tension to said episode instead of implying a possible addition of A.C. not minding almost having to kiss Hailey. This plotline is dropped in "Along For The Slide," due to a misunderstanding, with Hailey nor Scott ever finding out about it.

** In "U.F.Whoa!" it's discovered that the Chaos bots use a battery designed by future-Hailey, leading Hailey to wonder if she is actually a villain in the future...for about 5 seconds before the Professor reveals that Hailey's batteries are so good that literally everything uses it. The identity crisis could have been a great episode or even arc for Hailey, but it's wrapped up nigh-instantaneously.
* VanillaProtagonist: One of the show's biggest criticisms is that Hailey, herself, is not a strong enough character to carry the series, and that most, if not all of the other characters are more interesting than she is.
