* {{Sequelitis}}: ''Gobliiins 4'' is much less loved by the fans than the previous games (although Gilhodes still shows attachment to it). The PolygonCeiling might be one reason.

Added DiffLines:

* SequelDifficultyDrop: The first game had weird puzzles and a life bar system that put pressure on the player to not put themselves in danger, as the characters could get hurt and eventually die. Sequels made it impossible to die, and so players had free range to try puzzles.

* ScrappyMechanic: The first game’s health bar. This already discourages experimenting with the items and environment, but made even worse by the game’s abundance of TrialAndErrorGameplay and [[GuideDangit moon logic.]]

** Have fun watching the "Game Over" screen in ''Gobliiins'' as a child... not only do the Gobliiins first show [[DespairEventHorizon absolute despair when their lifebar has reached zero]], but then you have to see them cradling each other in pure sweating terror as Death comes to them, and a slimy worm crawls all around.

Added DiffLines:

** The first game has surprisingly dark and scary environments, despite the cartoonish characters and wacky jokes. When the Gobliiins go underground, they will have to face an one-eyed mummy that will scare them to death if they don't hide on a statue, giant spiders, a dungeon full of painful traps and a [[Literature/TheHobbit Smaug]]-like two-headed dragon in a hell-like cave who looks genuinely threatening.

*** The game was packed with the education program ADI, and this was the version a lot of French kids played. There was even a multimedia creation program that had a sound library with those Gravis Ultrasound sounds!

** Try playing this game with a Gravis Ultrasound sound card. The normal sounding noises the characters make are changed to something terrifying. Combined with the surreal nature of the animation and art make for a very terrifying experience, especially for a kid. Here's a [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAxNvZ3IK9E link to the opening]] using such a sound card...
