* NightmareFuel: The full scope of what happened that night on the ''Antonia Graza'': it starts off with some of the crew killing the kitchen staff so they can put rat poison in the food and we see some of passengers looking ill with a few throwing up, it then cuts to the infamous bisection scene and from there all hell breaks loose. The passengers are rounded up and gunned down by the pool or just butchered in the hallways by the now crazed crew members with a few dragging off Katie to do ''something'' to her. After killing the passengers, one crew member is seduced by Francesca to kill the rest of them before being killed himself and then Francesca is killed as well to finish off the slaughter.

** During their first meeting, Epps finds Katie's locket and sees a picture of her parents. Katie asks her not to close it, as she hasn't seen them in decades. She especially lights up at the sight of her mother in the picture, happily saying that her dress was actually made by her mother, doing a rather cute twirl and asking if Epps likes it. Katie then shyly tells Epps, [[YouRemindMeOfX "You remind me of her."]]

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoment: [[spoiler: Katie is not corrupted as the rest of the ghosts are as she died innocent and thus able to resist the lure of evil. At the end, after Epps successfully scuttles the ''Graza'', every soul that Ferriman had taken is set free and ascends to Heaven, set to a rather hopeful theme. Katie gives Epps one last smile before disappearing into light.]]

* TheWoobie: Katie. Poor, poor Katie. She was a young girl who was brutally murdered by several men, and her soul was bound to [[spoiler:Ferriman]]; however, because she had committed no sin, [[spoiler:Ferriman]] couldn't control her.

** Creator/KarlUrban and Creator/RonEldard both appearing this film, as both actors would later work on projects by Creator/JJAbrams. Urban would play TheMcCoy on ''Film/StarTrek2009'' and ''Film/StarTrekIntoDarkness'' and as Det. John Kennex on the TV series ''Series/AlmostHuman'', while Eldard would play tragic town drunk Louis Dainard in Abrams' love letter to Creator/StevenSpielberg, ''[[{{Film/Super8}} Super 8]]''.

* CompleteMonster: [[spoiler:[[BigBad Jack Ferriman]], aka the "Ferryman",]] is a self-described "salvage expert" who collects souls to send to Hell, only given the job as a demon for having lived an immoral life. Requiring his victims to [[TheCorrupter damn themselves]] first before killing them, he goads the crew on the Italian cruise liner the ''Antonia Graza'' to butcher everyone on board with the promise of getting their hands on [[GoldFever a crate of gold bars]]. Passengers are attacked all over the ship in the ensuing massacre, getting cut open, poisoned, or gunned to death, including a child being hanged. The instigators turn on each other after killing the passengers, and he kills the last one himself with a meat hook before trapping the ghosts on the ship in fear and torment. He also repeatedly lures salvage crews to the derelict cruise liner under the guise of fixing the ship, then tricks them into staying to get the gold, before killing them all one by one. Worse yet, [[spoiler:the end of the film shows him taking the gold onto another ship to restart the cycle anew.]]
* CultClassic: Overtime, the film has developed a small following, who appreciate its place as Dark Castle Entertainment's first original film, praise its special effects within the unique setting of a haunted cruise ship, and enjoy how it embodies the artistic trends of the early 2000s horror scene.

* SignatureScene: The dance scene in the opening, which ends with everyone at the dance being bisected by razor wire flying across the deck. Even people who disliked the film cite it as a great opening.

* SequelDifficultyDrop: The second game has been rebalanced to be less frustrating; enemy speed has been rebalanced so that killing them before they can reach you is easier, and dying no longer causes the game to delete your save file.

* EpilepticTrees: It is well within the possibility that ''Ghost Ship'' [[SharedUniverse shares a universe]] with [[spoiler:''Film/Thir13enGhosts'']], both films sharing a director (Steve Beck) with similar stylistic choices and the plot revolving around similar workinh {{Vengeful Ghost}}s and {{Friendly Ghost}}s.
