* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: As listed below, their song '18' randomly goes into a brief segment of Foo Fighters' 'Everlong.' It's a bit of mood whiplash, since the song was in a completely different tempo beforehand and goes back to how it was afterwards. It completely takes you out of the moment, especially if you've heard the other song beforehand.

** In general, prior to 2018, their sound was best described as a mix between All Time Low, Blink-182, old Fall Out Boy, [=McFly=], and Busted due to how much influence (to the point of ripping off, as pointed out above) they took from them in their music writing. After their third album, they're now taking more influence from Pop artists of the late 2010s due to their shifting genres for it.

A lot of the information in the two edited paragraphs was repetitive and rambly, so I condensed it in order to more effectively convey the information. Everything that was deleted, including the entire last paragraph, was removed because it was needlessly dismissive and rude toward the fanbase and toward teenage girls in general, the implication being that a band with a majority teen girl fanbase is manufactured and unworthy of success or praise.

** Some fans will include in their main argument of why 5 Seconds of Summer deserves the success they've gotten is because of the fact that they essentially quit school to tour with One Direction not knowing what was going to happen next and not knowing if they were going to fail or succeed. The problem with this argument? They toured with ''One Direction''! A boyband with a ''massive'' fandom of teenage girls that were ''bound'' to take a shine to them, and ''did''! Given 5 Seconds of Summer are almost the same ages as them, they're four good looking males, and they play the same kinds of music, just with a light PopPunk edge to their sound, they were ''guaranteed'' a built-in audience waiting to spend their money on their future albums and merch. The fact that they produced over ''50'' tracks in 2 years from 2014-2015 spanning 2 deluxe albums and half a dozen's worth of EPs to profit off of the fangirls, have a ''massive'' fandom of teenage fangirls, and have reached a ''ton'' more success than even their predecessors have in ''their'' early years as recording artists, it not only proved the detractors who treated their success, and still do, like the ForegoneConclusion it was right, but it also makes their fangirls suffer from FanDumb and OpinionMyopia as a result, making many detractors take them even ''less'' seriously.
*** For comparison, it took Music/GreenDay 3 albums and a few EPs over a 4-year period (plus, Billie Joe and Mike quit school after Armstrong turned 18, several months shy of graduating, making 5SOS' story less unique) to reach their initial big success in the 90s, and another 10 to match their previous success after years of waning interest by people, Music/AllTimeLow started producing music while ''in'' high school and started touring and producing more right out of high school and have yet to reach their heights, and Music/{{Waterparks}}, a band that's, arguably, making more interesting and complex music in, roughly, the same genres, are still building up their audience and success after over half a decade's work including 3 EPs and an album so far, so it really shows how fast ''their'' popularity has built with the help they've received after the ColbertBump from One Direction as opposed to these other bands that haven't had much of any help going in to recording their music and touring.
** There's also, apparently, been a troll comment going around spreading misinformation that Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day has said that 5 Seconds of Summer get a worse rep than they deserve and that he likes their music, despite him ''never'' saying so out loud. Many of the fans that repeat this misinformation end up looking stupid as a result.

* FanMyopia: Part of the backlash against 5SOS from some pop punk fans comes from this. When you have 5SOS fans that are less familiar with rock and pop punk confusing their cover of Music/GreenDay's 'American Idiot' as an original song, there's bound to be some rustled jimmies. There's also a sizable amount of these pop punk fans angry about 5SOS fans calling the band things like "the next blink-182". These comments are either made by a very small amount of misguided 5SOS fans, entirely made up, or obvious troll fodder, but that doesn't stop that segment of pop punk fans from getting very, very angry about it. Then there are the Pop Punk fans who recognize their songs as sounding eerily similar to other ones from years before, angering the 5SOS fans who clearly don't hear what they're talking about, or will outright deny the claims.

The fact that they produced over ''50'' tracks in 2 years from 2014-2015 spanning 2 deluxe albums and half a dozen's worth of EPs to profit off of the fangirls, have a ''massive'' fandom of teenage fangirls, and have reached a ''ton'' more success even their predecessors have in ''their'' early years as recording artists, it not only proved the detractors who treated their success, and still do, like the ForegoneConclusion it was, it makes their fangirls suffer from FanDumb and OpinionMyopia as a result, making many detractors take them even ''less'' seriously. ** There's also, apparently, a troll comment going around spreading misinformation that Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day has said that 5 Seconds of Summer get a worse rep than they deserve and that he likes their music, despite him ''never'' saying so out loud. Many of the fans that repeat this misinformation end up looking stupid as a result.

Given 5 Seconds of Summer are almost the same ages as them, they're four good looking males, and they play the same kinds of music, just with a light PopPunk edge to their sound, they were ''guaranteed'' a built-in audience waiting to spend their money on their future albums and merch. The fact that they produced over ''50'' tracks in 2 years from 2014-2015 spanning 2 deluxe albums and half a dozen's worth of EPs to profit off of the fangirls, have a ''massive'' fandom of teenage fangirls, and have reached a ''ton'' more success even their predecessors have in ''their'' early years as recording artists, it not only did this prove the detractors who treated their success, and still do, like the ForegoneConclusion it was, it makes their fangirls suffer from FanDumb and OpinionMyopia as a result, making many detractors take them even ''less' seriously.
