** People loved to make joke theories about how the cupcake is actually a persisting threat in the games. Now it ''really'' is.

* PortingDisaster: While all of the games in the series have had a problem with frame-rate drop in their mobile ports due to the limited power of most phones/tablets, it is ''especially'' noticeable in this game due to the constant movement and running around you have to utilise as opposed to flipping through an array of static camera screens with the only animation being on the animatronics' kill screens. A subdued version of this trope, to be sure, but still a hassle.

* WinTheCrowd: A lot of people were not really happy with there being a 4th game in the series, especially after [[EarnYourHappyEnding how perfectly the game ended for them]]; others thought that the game were already stretching and [[FranchiseZombie Scott was just milking it for all its worth at this point]] or [[NightmareRetardant the new designs just looked stupid]]. When the trailer came out and people started to get their hands on the demo, a lot of people started to warm up to it after seeing its setting and its mechanics. The jumpscares are now rendered with the room just like they were back in the first game, pleasing the people who disliked the second and third games' jumpscares due to their sprites being a seperate render and causing all kinds of graphical goofs due to the games' perspective camera. Also, ''4'' turned out to be a prequel to ''3'' , and did not [[{{Retcon}} overwrite]] ''3'''s ending.

* HypeBacklash: Scott's statements that no one has figured out the game's true story, and his decision to leave the box unopened which caused the Halloween Update to not provide any new lore has led people to be more critical of the story, and how well it serves as the final entry. Many are saying that it's not conclusive enough, that it's near impossible to untangle all of the plot points introduced by the game, and that if there are definite answers to the series' questions, then there's not enough information provided for fans to figure them out.

* CrossesTheLineTwice: Getting jumpscared and bitten by evil animatronics? Not funny, unless you're watching someone react. Getting jumpscared by [[CrowningMomentOfFunny a homicidal cupcake with razor-sharp teeth]]? ''Hysterical!''

* MostWonderfulSound: The 6 AM sound, as usual, although it's the sound of an alarm clock and doesn't have any WestminsterChimes like the previous games.

** Fredbear himself. [[spoiler:Despite the Nightmare Animatronics terrorizing the poor child, Fredbear -- or at least the plush of him -- seems to try to console the child, even going so far as to say that he and the others want to fix the child after he suffers the Bite. Is this actual good intentions...or just a precursor to the nightmares faced in gameplay? ([[BreadEggsBreadedEggs Or good intentions gone (literally) nightmarishly wrong?]])]]

* LoveToHate: The {{jerkass}} older brother, at least for the first five mini-games. He may have [[spoiler:apologized after Night 6]], but he's directly responsible for [[spoiler:the Bite of '87]] and likes to terrorize the protagonist on a regular basis. No DracoInLeatherPants for him.

* ItWasHisSled: By now, everyone knows that [[spoiler:Golden Freddy is Fredbear]], and that [[spoiler:he is responsible for the Bite of '87, of whom the protagonist is the victim]].

** The protagonist is a kid who is under attack in his own home by the nightmare animatronics and is treated as an outcast by every other child he encounters because of how timid he is. [[spoiler:And then there's all the shit he gets from his older brother, eventually culminating in the Bite of '87.]] This kid practically defines this trope.

* TheChrisCarterEffect: Has been accused of this by some of the fanbase. Many were hoping that the fourth (and at the time, last) game in the "Five Nights" series would at least answer one or two burning questions surrounding the lore, like the Purple Man's identity or the infamous Bite of '87. Instead, people were left even MORE confused than ever. Scott promising never to open the box didn't help at all, alongside the Halloween update being PaletteSwaps and not much else.

* EveryoneIsJesusInPurgatory: The Box, as one youtube comment says:

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: It might not have been intended, but the game gave a pretty forward and still relevant anvil: Bullying has damaging effects on a child. Because no one stepped in--not the [[ParentalNeglect parents]], not the other [[KidsAreCruel kids]], [[AdultsAreUseless no one]]--when the older brother kept tormenting the child, the bullying went too far [[spoiler:and now the kid is physically and mentally scarred for the rest of his life--which might not be very long if that really was a flat line at the end.]] The entire game and its [[DownerEnding sad ending]] could have been avoided if the older brother hadn’t been bullying the younger one.
** Not only that, but one person standing up for himself doesn't guarantee anything. Others have to join in.

* AndIMustScream: If Fredbear and the other animatronics are sentient during the Child's birthday party, it just adds another layer of horror and sadness. Imagine being an animatronic created for the sole purpose of entertaining children, and then a group of nasty boys shove a child into your mouth. You know he's not supposed to be there, but there's nothing you can do; you can't go against your programming. You can't open your mouth wider so the Child can pull himself out, you can't move your arms to pull him out of your mouth, you can't even stop your mouth from clamping down on the Child's head. You continue with your performance, unable to stop yourself, and listen to the sickening crunch as you bite down against your will, and watch as the laughter turns to screaming.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: All of the format changes story and gameplay wise are almost certainly Scott invoking this trope to please the fans who were concerned that this franchise was becoming bland, repetitive and by the numbers.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The mini-game where the child [[spoiler:is locked in the Parts room, with several animatronic heads]]. We are never given an explanation for this, who locked him in (it's implied to be the brother but could also be [[spoiler:the Purple Man]]) what day or time it is [[spoiler:since it could be happening during the Purple Man's murders]] and it doesn't add anything to our comprehension.

** The Child's brother. [[spoiler:He's terrorized his younger brother by playing off his fear for Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria and taking him there multiple times, even though he ''knows'' his brother hates it. During his birthday party, he and his friends take him on stage and places the Child's head in the animatronic's mouth. As soon as the animatronic closes its mouth on the Child's head, the brother and his friends stop laughing. Although the brother is remorseful about what happened, it still doesn't excuse him for what he did. He and his friends should have known something like that would happen. It's also been [[WildMassGuessing theorized]] that, in the main game, you in fact play as the big brother rather than The Child, meaning he possibly has to deal with these monstrosities as well as his own guilt.]]
** Upper Management for Freddy's Pizzeria also qualifies. They may be a lousy business that lacks compassion for their employees, but no place deserves [[spoiler:a serial killing employee AND a horrific accident caused by terrible customers]] in the same week alone. Their downfall is a ForegoneConclusion.
