* TheyChangedItNowItSucks:
** In regards to team roster. Though not too widespread, some lamented that Betsy is the only Brit on the team, the others including three Americans (a Cajun, a Southerner who isn't Cajun, and a Chinese-American), a Mexican, and an ''Ancient'' Egyptian. This despite the fact that ''Excalibur'' is a British team, and takes very British themes based on English HighFantasy and SwordAndSorcery with the team being named after the legendary Excalibur sword, protecting the Kingdom of Avalon, while fighting a magical war with beings that include faeries and dragons. Even those who don't have a real problem with it do think it's a little odd. Similarly, the lack of ''any'' classic Excalibur members (with Nightcrawler, Rachel Summers, Kitty Pride and Meggan Puceanu being absent, and Brian Braddock being replaced by a LegacyCharacter) is offputting to some.
** There's also the fact that Jubilee barely does anything of note, seeming to exist merely to wring her hands and constantly fret over Shogo.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Betsy becoming the new Captain Britain while Kwannon becomes the new ComicBook/{{Psylocke}} was very obviously done to please everyone. Many [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks didn't like wholesome White Psylocke]] even though she was originally a Caucasian Brit who dressed very modestly, if only because [[FansPreferTheNewHer sexy ninja Psylocke proved more popular]]. Here, Betsy becomes Captain Britain (and heavily indicated to be a permanent transition), giving her some much needed CharacterDevelopment and change as a character -- including acknowledging how messed up it was for her to essentially steal another woman's face for years -- while Kwannon fills the old role as the sexy Asian ninja in ''ComicBook/{{Fallen Angels|2019}}'', and becomes an AscendedExtra to match. Fans have been very welcoming of Betsy as Captain Britain, and are also willing to see how Kwannon develops in her new role.

* StrawmanHasAPoint: The British government quickly go against Betsy as Captain Britain, believing her to have more loyalty to Krakoa than she does to them. While the book portrays them as unreasonable and devilish, they are right to question Betsy's role as Captain Britain - she spends almost no time with them, instead sticking almost exclusively to Krakoa, and sometimes in Otherworld. The only good she's done for them is indirect at best, like helping to protect the entire world in ''ComicBook/XOfSwords''. Their decision to cut ties with Krakoa is supposed to be brutal, but it's completely reasonable given how little Betsy has done to help them. Later, a member of Excalibur ''actively steals land'' and gives it to Krakoa. The only thing the British Crown has done wrong here, is side with the evil Coven Akkaba, AKA the only people who are actually helping them.

* MemeticBadass: ''Betsy''. The fact that she's become the new Captain Britain, and a true one at that by holding the Amulet of Right that turned her brother into a Franchise/{{Superman}}-esque NighInvulnerable FlyingBrick, all while [[SuperiorSuccessor retaining her own very potent psychic powers]], has many speculating just how [[SuperpowerLottery insanely overpowered]] she's going to be. These people look forward to seeing Betsy kick all kinds of ass, with some expressing that they'll be disappointed if she ''doesn't'' prove to be a [[StoryBreakerPower story breaker]].
