* DorkAge: Many fans of DC's animated movies felt this way about this universe, mostly due to their emphasis on Batman and Damian Wayne (a character many disliked), being based/inspired on the divisive ''New 52'' brand and for what many saw as lower quality writing that tried to compensate with high amounts of violence and shock value.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The franchise was considered below par compared to the ''Franchise/DCAnimatedUniverse'' when it started, for factors such as being based on the contentious ComicBook/New52, [[SpotlightStealingSquad focusing way too much on Damian Wayne]], and not really feeling like a proper universe but just "Batman and others". The creators improved their craft and storytelling later on, diversifying their DC influences to adapt ''ComicBook/DCRebirth'' and ''ComicBook/PostCrisis'' stories, while adding their own elements. Characters other than Damian and Batman received some much needed development, with ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansTheJudasContract'' being the first animated movie in five years not to feature the latter. Both the ''Death of Superman'' and ''Reign of the Supermen'' are seen as a step in the right direction due to having the spirit and tone of the Post-Crisis era and being relatively loyal to the source material, not to mention giving focus to Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, whom had been critically underutilized prior. Unfortunately this didn't prevent the franchise from being cancelled leaving some disappointed that the series ended when it finally began to develop it's own identity.

** [[spoiler:''Justice League Dark: Apokolips War'' was a divisive ending to the franchise, so for many learning that the ''Constantine: The House of Mystery'' short film will continue the story left them excited. We have a new Shared Universe.

** The decision to end the franchise with ''Apokolips War''. Many fans feel that the universe and characters still had potential for interesting stories due to no longer being constrained by the ''New 52'' source material. However, those who disliked the idea of a shared universe feel that ending the series was a breath of fresh air and are glad that Warner Animation will return to standalone movies.

We do have another DC animated Shared Universe.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: The series initially drew heavy influence from the ComicBook/New52, which was a contentious period among comic book fans due to taking major liberties with the characters and having a darker tone. While later films eventually moved away from the source material and developed their own identity, they could never shake off the first impression, and had less expressive sales when compared to previous DC animated movies as a result. The franchise eventually ended in 2020, with DC Animation wanting to refocus on standalone stories.

* {{Adorkable}}: It's not too noticeable, but there are a few instances where Wonder Woman fits this trope. One moment is in ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueWar'', where she shows adorable, child like excitement at trying ice cream for the first time. The second time is the diner scene in ''WesternAnimation/ReignOfTheSupermen'', where her attempts to maintain a conversation with Lois end up rather awkward, yet she still shows a certain charm that makes her endearing. She shows this again in ''WesternAnimation/WonderWomanBloodlines'' when meeting Vanessa for the first time, and accidentally mixing up their names, acting a bit flustered afterwards.

Given the treatment of Wally under Dan [=DiDio=], fans naturally didn't take too kindly to this change.

Misuse. As stated in the Darkness Induced Audience Apathy page, a work being Darker And Edgier than previous installments is not relevant to this trope. "It only applies when there is no meaningful conflict because everyone is awful and the world sucks, and therefore there are no stakes for the audience." It's correct that earlier films portray the main characters as deeply flawed individuals, but their positive values are always highlighted as they perform selfless feats or undergo Character Development, to the point that there is a clear distinction between who is a hero and who is a villain. Also, while the world is far from being as idealistic as in the classic comics, it's not represented as a gritty and helpless hellhole either, with the only exception being the final film, whose very premise relies on a Downer Beginning. The fact this franchise received criticism for being Darker And Edgier than previous DC films is already detailed elsewhere on this page.

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: Taking influence from the ComicBook/New52, the series carries over many of the same complaints people had with that. Both the heroes and villains are more violent, themes and storylines skew darker and overall the entire series has a very grim edge. It can make the series hard for some people to get into.
