** AmericansHateTingle: Conversely, the show is fairly obscure in America as aside from viewers in northern states who could receive a nearby CBC station, no American channel ever really aired the show for any length of time. It aired briefly on Creator/{{PBS}} in the early 70s, the Creator/USANetwork aired it for a short time in the early 80s (when they were desperate for programming), and the part-CBC owned cable net Trio aired it at some point before the CBC sold it to- ironically- USA Networks. It's only really been exposed around here via Creator/{{Hulu}}.

* SerialEscalation: One of the biggest moments in the first decade of the series was when a train derailed from the viaduct. In the 1980s it was the Rovers catching fire. Since then the Rovers has caught fire another time, the Corner Shop has been set fire with its owners in it, a fire and propane tank explosion struck the luxury flats, the bistro exploded and caused a tram to crash into the Corner Shop and the Kabin, and the factory has burned down twice. The street has seen no fewer than three serial killers, part of a run of about two dozen murders on the street since the 1970s. Of those murders, only four had been committed before the 1980s. This has had the habit of making the show rather repetitive in the last twenty years.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Nick Tilsley, especially during the whole "Who's the Daddy?" storyline and its aftermath. As unfortunate as it is to have lasting brain damage, it was still his own fault ''for sleeping with his brother's wife on Christmas.'' He should have known by now who his brother was, what, if pushed far enough, he was capable of and should have just manned up and confess to David and Leanne in the first place. Plus, in addition to being an unsympathetic character already, it may come off as a form of LaserGuidedKarma for sleeping with his then-best friend's wife in a year earlier while said ex-best friend was [[{{Irony}} recovering from serious injuries he had sustained.]] It's not helped by the fact that after the accident, Nick (falsely) claimed that his brother David had tried to kill him, resulting in David being ostracized from his family, kicked out of his own home, denied access to his children and treated like a complete monster on par with Richard Hillman.

* StrictlyFormula: The stories can become a bit repetitive but the only difference being that the problem is held by a different character but there is some noticeable repetitiveness such as the pub being set on fire whenever there is a new owner. A villain that isn't arrested for their crimes and sent to jail then they are killed off by either murder or by accident or by a fortunate chance of leaving the street and never intending to return.

** Vera Duckworth's death.
** The death of her husband Jack some time later.
** This is of course a regular trope, but a particularly memorable occasion was a 80s scene of fan favourite Hilda Ogden opening a parcel containing her recently deceased husband (and fellow fan favourite) Stan's glasses, and her subsequent breakdown into tears.
** The Fiftieth Anniversary. Explosion, train crash, deaths, war flashbacks, fires, injuries.
** John Stape's death.
** Hayley Cropper's death. Oh dear GOD.
** Deirdre Barlow's death, especially with [[TheCharacterDiedWithHer Anne Kirkbride's death occurring months earlier.]] Everyone's reactions, particularly Ken and Tracy's, say it all.
** Schmeichel being put down.

* JerkSue:
** Janice Battersby.
** Sean Tully.
** Kevin Webster (during the ''War of the Websters'' storyline). His wife Sally was a borderline example too, though she at least got several TakeThatScrappy moments.
** Tracy Barlow.
** Nick Tilsey. Although he has always been seen as Gail's [[MartyStu "perfect"]] child, he has ''horrendously'' backslid into this since being portrayed by Ben Price.

* SympatheticSue: Michelle Connor:
** Dead husband. Later revealed that he died in an accident where her ''brother'' was drunk driving and they moved her husband's body into the driver's seat - making it look as if he was the drunk driver.
** Oldest brother dies. Happens not too long after Michelle finds out about the above. Of course Michelle arrives too late at the hospital to see him.
** Second brother gets murdered.
** Fell in love with a wonderful rich man. Turns out he's bisexual and cheats on her with Sean.
** Turns out her son isn't her son after all but was accidentally swapped with another baby at the hospital. Unless [[BrotherChuck we're not supposed to remember him]].
*** Any of these incidents alone would guarantee a normal person a total nervous breakdown and require therapy. Nope, Michelle's not affected at all.

After worming his way back into his ex's life due to her resurfacing drug problems, he continues to stay around to mess with David and tries (and comes dangerously close) at winning both Kylie back and custody of his son. He also manages to get both Sarah and her equally-minded daughter wrapped around his finger, in spite of him breaking up their brother/uncle's marriage. * ArtisticLicenseMedicine: In Tina's final episodes, her surgeon explained that due to the swelling of her brain, pieces of her skull had to be removed, although her long hair remained completely intact. In reality, her head would have to be shaved to perform the operation. Understandably, the actress would not be willing to do such a thing, but you have to wonder why the director/writers couldn't have at least hidden her hair from view to make the scene more believable [[RuleOfDrama (and dramatic?)]]
