** Cinderella was never completely a scrappy but she was an unpopular Franchise/DisneyPrincess, alongside [[WesternAnimation/SleepingBeauty Aurora]] and [[WesternAnimation/SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarfs Snow White]]. While iconic, all three of them have been hit hard by SeinfeldIsUnfunny and are largely seen as "boring" and "bland" compared to future princesses. This movie however gave Cinderella more character depth than the original film. That, combined with her [[TookALevelInBadass athletic moments]], helped many people like Cinderella more.

* EvenBetterSequel: This movie addresses many of the first movie's problems, like Prince Charming being a FlatCharacter, Cinderella being a DamselInDistress, the "Whoever Fits in the Glass Shoe Will Marry Me" plot point. And it does all of this while still keeping within the confines of a fairy tale. Given the second film was a poorly disguised FailedPilotEpisode while this was made with the intent of being a feature length film with higher production values, it had more time to shine, but it's still considered far better.

* MemeticMutation: The scene in which [[http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v624/eyesofsue/OKAYy.gif Charming jumps off a balcony to escape his dad]] has become quite the favorite among gif makers.

** Prince Charming is often criticized for being one of the blandest Disney Princes, as he's basically a SatelliteLoveInterest in the first movie. In this sequel, he receives character development and more screen time, and performs several awesome stunts.

* MoralEventHorizon: She may or may not have already crossed the MEH by that point (see the YMMV page for [[YMMV/{{Cinderella}} the original classic]] for her earliest possible MEH), but Lady Tremaine definitely cements it in this film when she [[spoiler:poofs Cinderella in a twisted pumpkin carriage with Lucifer as its human driver, and attempts to get Lucifer to ''kill'' Cinderella.]] ''Especially'' heinous because [[spoiler:up until that point, she was satisfied with just making Cinderella's life a living hell.]] She also has [[spoiler: Anastasia posing as Cinderella to fool the prince. If anyone doesn't know, this is rape by deception (or at least it would be if this weren't a Disney movie)... and worse, she tries to use ''one of her own flesh and blood daughters'' for such shit, and right when Anastasia is becoming more and more sympathetic! And when Anastasia finally [[HeelFaceTurn refuses to marry the Prince]] in front of an astonished Cinderella, Lady Tremaine crosses the MEH once again and resorts to using force (I.E the wand) on everyone trying to stop her from seizing the kingdom, even going as far as [[AbusiveParents trying to attack Anastasia (and later Cinderella as well when she tries to protect Anastasia).]]]]

* SignatureScene: Two. One is the Prince jumping out the window, mainly for being one of the biggest laughs in the film. The other is the demonic carriage ride, partially because that entire sequence is a testament to how ''good'' Disney sequels can be if the filmmakers really try, and because it's genuinely unnerving, and even scary for younger kids.

* HarsherInHindsight: If you thought Lady Tremaine was bad here, wait until you learn what [[MurderTheHypotenuse she tried to do to Cinderella]] in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep''. Also in that canon, [[spoiler:Anastasia crosses the Moral Event Horizon at the same time as her mother and sister]].
* JerkassWoobie: Anastasia and Drizella are a prime example of this trope. After Cinderella leaves, their mother treats them the way she treated Cinderella. They're supposed to deserve it because they bullied Cinderella, but Anastasia's plot proves the girls are only the way they are now because they've never been taught any better and their mother is the only role model they've ever had. And Lady Tremaine's indiscriminate evil finally becomes manifest when she tries to ''attack'' Anastasia during the film's climax, for having the audacity to help Cinderella, which forces Cinders herself to step in to protect her.

* TastesLikeDiabetes: The first three minutes of the movie are a kind of affectionate, tongue-in-cheek satire of the stereotype of Disney happy endings, in which Cinderella recounts her rags-to-riches life to the viewers before she, Prince Charming, the mice and the Fairy Godmother sing about how "Perfectly Perfect" things have been since the wedding. (The movie as a whole, of course, believes very earnestly in the idea of a happy ending and goes on to show that happy endings ''aren't'' actually about everything being Perfectly Perfect forever; what matters is the ability to be true to yourself with people who love you for who you are.)

** Although they still aded a glitter effect to it so it's not entirely a fade effect.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Anastasia goes from being one of the most disliked Disney villains to an incredibly sympathetic character.

* TheScrappy: Lady Tremaine is extremely despised by fans that she TookALevelInJerkass and made herself far worse than she ever was in the original movie. She poofs Cinderella in a twisted pumpkin carriage with Lucifer as its human driver, and attempts to get Lucifer to kill Cinderella. Especially heinous because up until that point she was satisfied with just making Cinderella's life a living hell. She also has Anastasia posing as Cinderella to fool the prince. If anyone doesn't know, this is rape by deception... and for worse, she tries to use one of her own flesh and blood daughters for this, and right when Anastasia is becoming more and more sympathetic. Finally, Tremaine herself eventually ends up earning the wrath of the king and the prince, meaning she continues to go through with her wicked scheme for no reason except to spite not only Cinderella but also Anastasia. Same applies for Drizella who is also at her worst here, becoming a big Deadpan Snarker towards her sister's shortcomings, and even suggesting to Tremaine that she beat Anastasia early on. Fortunately, they both get their well-deserved comeuppance in the end when they're turned into frogs from their spell deflected at them, and later restored in their normal forms while wearing Cinderella's maid outfits, implying that they are now forever slaves to Cinderella and everyone in the kingdom is treating them horribly in the same fashion as they treated Cinderella.
