* MoralEventHorizon: Dracula makes a good case against humanity and it's hard not to sympathize with him after Lisa's death, but he definitely crosses it with the injury he inflicted on Alucard when he tried to stop him.
** The Bishop quickly crossed it by having Lisa burned at the stake, seeing her as a witch when all she wanted to do was help people. If he hadn't crossed it then, then he definitely crossed it when he made an angry mob to kill the Speakers, blaming them for the attacks by Dracula's army.

** Anyone who watched the Japanese dub will notice Alucard is voiced none other than Creator/ShinichiroMiki, who was the voice actor for Zamasu in the Japanese version of ''Anime/DragonBallSuper''. The hilarious part is where Zamasu wants to commit genocide to all humans (like Dracula is doing, save a few), but in this series, Alucard wants to ''prevent'' genocide to the human race.

* ItsShortSoItSucks: A common complaint among viewers, even among people who liked it, was that the first season was too short, being only 4-episodes long with 20 minutes each (not counting intro and credits). Producers have acknowledged it and promised that the next season will have twice as many episodes. This stems from the project's origin as an animated film trilogy, each part running 80 minutes.

Dracula arrives too late to save her, and can only warn her kind neighbor to leave the town. He then gives her executioners a year to leave the city, before he starts his RoaringRampageOfRevenge. Trevor and Alucard oppose Dracula not because they believe he is unjustified, but because he will wipe out thousands of innocents.

He feels SurroundedByIdiots where the church is concerned and is quite a JerkWithAHeartOfGold. He refuses to leave people who need his help, because he doesn't believe in BystanderSyndrome.

** Lisa Tepes, a woman that just wanted to help people with science. The Church manages to catch her while she's alone at home, destroy her equipment, and burn her at the stake without even a trial. She can only scream in her last moments to beg Dracula to not avenge her death, because her executioners are ignorant. Dracula doesn't hear her, due to being away from home, and he avenges her a hundred times over.

* {{Anvilicious}}: The Church is evil and so is everyone associated with it, m'kay? Somewhat TruthInTelevision, as the upper echelons of the Church ''were'' corrupt back then. With that said, Blue Fangs claims that God is actually disgusted by the Bishop's actions.
** It should be noted, however, in spite of the Belmonts being exiled by that time in canon, they didn't lose faith and still used holy weapons. In the adaptation, Trevor seems to acknowledge that God is a great force against evil, [[CorruptChurch even if the same can't be said for his most vocal followers]]. Thankfully, right around the time Christian viewers might be questioning whether they should start getting offended by the awful portrayal of their faith so far, [[OneSceneWonder one nameless priest]] steps up in episode 4 who is [[GoodShepherd a genuinely good and noble servant of God]], and ends up being integral to saving the day by providing holy water against the horde when they attack the town of Griset once again. Trevor even says outright that he needs a priest who was "properly'' ordained," which implies that the priests serving the Bishop were little more than armed thugs that he 'deputized' by dressing them as priests and little else.
** Also worth noting is that the setting of the story enables the Church to be as LawfulStupid as it is. The setting is in 1476, when religious power was high, combined with a fantasy setting where monsters and demons are a known occurrence. The Church is able to get away with its heinous actions claimed in the name of God because the people around the area have nothing else to believe in, nor much education in the sciences to counter said claims.
* ArcFatigue: The prolonged Speakers vs. the CorruptChurch subplot, which occupies the majority of the second and third episodes and is one of the more criticized aspects for slowing the pacing significantly.
* AwesomeArt: Unlike Frederator's other projects like ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'', ''Castlevania'' adopts an {{Animesque}} aesthetic to fit with being an adaptation of a Japanese video game. It works.
* CounterpartComparison: Some people compare Trevor to [[Anime/JojosBizarreAdventure Joseph Joestar]] due to both being the descendants of a noble lineage of vampire killers who happen to be huge {{Combat Pragmatist}}s with a penchant for snarky commentary.
* {{Narm}}:
** In the first episode, when Dracula starts ranting to Alucard about Lisa's murder, it becomes difficult to take the scene seriously, what with the poorly-drawn fangs in Dracula's mouth that stick out as though someone glued toothpicks to his gums. Not helping is Graham [=McTavish=] using a very similar voice to Dante from ''VideoGame/DantesInferno'' for this scene, whose love of ChewingTheScenery is extraordinary.
** Blue Fangs saying [[spoiler: "Let me kiss you." right before killing the Bishop]]. While it sort of works with the demon's speech beforehand, it still comes across as awkward instead of menacing.
* NauseaFuel: Given that the show is amping up to be ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'' and ''Manga/{{Gantz}}'' in terms of blood, gore, and visceral imagery, this is to be expected. A specific example is the scene where Dracula unleashes the hordes of Hell on a town, complete with the demons literally ripping people apart.
* OneSceneWonder: In the season 1 finale, a Catholic priest who is actually ''good'' instead of a two-dimensional villain makes holy water that helps defend the town against attacks from Dracula's minions. It makes sense, too, as Trevor's call was for a priest who was properly ordained, which implies that the others were just armed thugs the Bishop dressed in cassocks to enforce his will on the city.
* ItsShortSoItSucks: A common complain among viewers, even among people who liked it, was that the first season was too short, being only 4-episodes long with 20 minutes each (not counting intro and credits). Producers have acknowledged it and promised that the next season will have more episodes.
* SlowPacedBeginning: There's quite a lot of exposition in the first season, with the first two episodes mostly being dedicated to WorldBuilding. The third episode picks up about halfway through and the fourth is almost entirely action, making up for this.
* SpiritualAdaptation: A lot of fans of ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'' would consider this to be a better adaptation of its themes than the [[Anime/Berserk2016 official anime released in 2016]].
* VideoGameMoviesSuck: Averted with the first season, which got fairly good reviews. Praise came for the character of Trevor Belmont being delightful as a snarky asshole, for making Dracula sympathetic instead of a GenericDoomsdayVillain, and the action scenes being very intense, with high praise going to the demons descending and Trevor versus Alucard in episode 4.
* WhatAnIdiot: Pretty much the entire population of Wallachia. Dracula ''explicitly'' told them that he would come for them in one year after they burned Lisa at the stake. And what did they do? They ''held a celebration to commemorate her death.'' Needless to say, the Prince of Darkness was ''not'' amused. In the people's defense, the people of the capital weren't at the burning, and only got what was likely a ''very'' biased report from the Bishop. What ''was'' stupid, however, was holding that celebration on what seemed to be the ''assumption'' that nothing was going to happen, especially considering the day wasn't even over yet. The most generous interpretation of their actions is that maybe they think "well, if we made it a year, then we're home free" but even that is a weak defense.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: Is it an animated series based off a game that was commonly enjoyed by kids, and animated by a studio known for making kid shows? Yes. Is it actually for kids?
