* HarsherInHindsight: "Stay Together for the Kids", a song about a child's angst over his parents divorcing, was written in parallel to Delonge's own feelings of his parents divorce. Years later after the song's inception (2001), Delonge and his wife would divorce, and while both their kids are old enough to not endure the divorce stress, it's still eerie.

** Aliens Exist of all songs has become this upon Tom's departure from the band in 2014 to later pursue endeavors in To The Stars and its various branches, including the supposed investigation of UFOs. Some fans have warmed to this song again in recent years however, especially after it was played live again for the first time in nearly two decades during their Enema of the State 20th Anniversary Tour.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: For a pop punk band, they seem to hold a lot of regard for people, becoming less of the generic pop music and making music for everyone. ''Take Off Your Pants and Jacket'', ''Enema of the State'' and ''especially'' [[GrowingTheBeard the untitled/self titled album]] showcases the band's career as a whole.

** The DorkAge began to show more and more in recent years with the borderline caustic reception of the song "Blame It On My Youth", the constant delays of the new album, Mark's [[SmallNameBigEgo apparent attitude in recent interviews and twitter posts]] (as well as [[DearNegativeReader mocking those who didn't like John Feldmann's production]] off of ''California''), and to say nothing about the constant cancelling showing gag. Fans however were confused by the sheer idea that blink-182 decided to tour with ''Music/LilWayne'' of all people, who then '''quit''' their tour after a few shows due to differences and ''he himself'' finding the set up strange. Fans are less and less excited and now more concerned over what the new album will be, ''if'' it comes out anyway.

* GrowingTheBeard: Most people would think they began to do this around ''Enema of the State'', as when they went on, the band became less about making dick jokes and toilet humor and more serious topics such as suicide ("Adam's Song" off of ''Enema of the State'') and broken homes ("Stay Together for the Kids" off of ''Take Off Your Pants and Jacket''). The self titled/untitled album on the other hand, showcases the band's maturity in music, being a complete devoid album of comedic songs and more about broken relationships, growth in families, and more darker types of feelings. Tom's work on Box Car Racer and Travis's working on Transplants helped matters as well.

** Even with the collective jerkitude and the clusterfuck that indues, you couldn't help but feel bad about their separation on some level, especially since they were thick as thieves for years. The breakup likely could have been avoided if it wasn't for outside pressure from the label, [[PoorCommunicationKills communication breakdowns]], and other aspects fans likely don't know about. The songs on +44's album about the breakup are heartbreaking and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v42wPnvDIRw "Start the Machine"]] from Angels and Airwave's We Don't Need To Whisper isn't exactly much better. Travis' plane crash pretty much cinched it, even though he survived, doctors were convinced he'd never play again. If he didn't make it out of the crash, out of ''suicide watch'', or out of extensive surgery, let alone regain his ability to play drums, blink would never come back! Thankfully the band made up, but they've admitted that Neighborhoods wasn't the best it could have been due to the band being scared of fighting again. Travis' severe (and justified) fear of flying means that they're limited to where they can tour based on if Travis can get there by boat. Even if they're doing better, you might as well give them ''all'' a hug, just to keep your bases covered.

** "Neighborhoods", although less in an emo-sounding direction and more of a "let's take blink-182 and elements from all the other bands we did during the breakup, put 'em and a blender and see what comes out of it" kind of way. Putting the DarkerAndEdgier feel of the self-titled and the directions of +44 and AVA into consideration, it's hard to see how some people didn't see it coming.

** And then there is Enema of the State/Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, the albums that marked their mainstream breakthrough. Enema has its fans (with good reason), but a decent chunk of old school blink fans hate both (moreso Take Off Your Pants And Jacket)
** ''California'' seems to be equally as divisive for the fans as Neighborhoods was, with many seeing it as boring with overwrought production and trying too hard to appeal to 90s nostalgia song-wise.

** It sort of becomes a mix of subverted to something the band had to do: Travis and Mark clarified in interviews Tom was holding the band back, which could make sense since Tom was focusing on his own stuff with AVA/His "To the Stars" projects and the range of PoorCommunicationKills didn't help matters either. However since the announcement of ''California'', Mark and Travis seem to be on speaking terms with Tom and Tom has wished his bandmates the best of luck.

** The messy split with Tom Delonge ''really'' didn't leave a good impression on everyone.

** ''Neighborhoods'' has those who are enthusiastic about the idea that they're incorporating elements of their various side projects into it, and those that hate it because it's "[[RecycledINSPACE just]] Music/{{A|ngelsAndAirwaves}}vA [[XMeetsY with Mark]]". While ''Dogs Eating Dogs'' received the same concerns, the reaction has been more receptive than with ''Neighborhoods''.

Most fans TakeTheThirdOption and seem to see him as a JerkWithAHeartOfGold ''suffering'' from SmallNameBigEgo. His CreatorBreakdown behavior following his removal/departure from blink doesn't help matters either.
