* DemonicSpider: Cybrid Joes may as well be named Demonic Joes, what with their very powerful attacks, super armor on almost every attack, fiery whirlwind kicks that goes on forever and can kill you in a few hits, and being able to take just as much punishment as they can dish out. On top of that, attempting to grab them is futile. Fighting Cybrid Joes tests your skills (especially the dodging kind), your reflexes, if you remembered to take your rampage with you and your anger management.

* AccidentalAesop: It's not clear if the single-player story was meant to even have an aesop, but the Black Side story seems to be trying to say that we shouldn't let emotions get in the way of our lives, and the White Side has a subtle question of wether it's better [[{{ToBeLawfulOrGood}} To Be Lawful Or Good]]. Both of these are made more explicit in the Red Side: [[spoiler: Nikolai]] let his selfishness take over his sense of justice, and was willing to follow a corrupt law instead of trying to do good.

** Bayonetta hs an infamous Killer Weapon glitch, making her incredibly powerful.

** A new glitch technique has been discovered, dubbed "Twitch Canceling," which allows a character to cancel almost every normal move into another so long s they have at least one Killer Weapon bar. This effectively gives every character a loop/infinite.

* ThatOneSidequest: "Parasite Infestion" in the second Black Side Stage. Kill 50 Parasites... while dodging the Kraken's tentacles (which hit faster than you can usually follow). Oh, and when you finish that, you have to destroy its tentacles, while being attacked by a [[DemonicSpider Mutant]], with what time you have left! Even being the first mission that plays "They Came From Underground" doesn't make it less annoying (not least because halfway through the mission the song is cut off).
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Max is really, really, REALLY messed up.

** Mercifully, in the Campaign, only five of them in total ever appear. Unfortunately, Leo has to deal with three of them in the White Side.

* WhatAnIdiot: Sega, for announcing the game for a EU and US release on January 8, 2013. Here are some reasons why this was a stupid move;
** 1) The Japanese version was still slated for its early July release.
** 2) WordOfGod has stated that the EU and US versions were FINISHED, so they could have easily released in July as well.
** 3) There was literally no competition that Anarchy Reigns would have faced in July, while January 2013 would see a large number of big-name and/or hotly anticipated games (Such as VideoGame/BioShockInfinite) that Anarchy Reigns would have to compete with.
** 4) They did this without even talking about it to PlatinumGames to the point their reaction was FlatWhat on Twitter, drawing even more ire towards them. This had even gotten to the point where Platinum Games could not advocate importing the game, but it was already available in five languages on both consoles and was completely region-free.

* AwesomeButImpractical: Doing an infinite loop or an extend combo online, while if you pull it off you have the bastards life in your hands but lag and other players will most likely get in the way of doing it. The only practical place to do one is a Cage Match but even then lag will most likely get in the way. Offline this becomes AwesomeYetPractical.
* BoringButPractical: Big Bull's Killer Weapon, the Jet Hammer, doesn't have any of the cutscene/throw style attacks other Killer Weapons are famed for, but its simplicity doesn't hinder the Bull from tearing off half an enemy's health with one good swing. The fast attack is also excellent for closing the distance to an enemy, going a long way towards balancing out Bull's lack of speed.
** Also, it works great on giant killer robots too. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr0tsCa5XWs Allow Bull and Cthulhu to demonstrate]].

* BoringButPractical: Big Bull's Killer Weapon, the Jet Hammer, doesn't have any of the cutscene/throw style attacks other Killer Weapons are famed for, but its simplicity doesn't hinder the Bull from tearing off half an enemy's health with one good swing.

** Less so, if you remember to bring a Missile Launcher...then the easy to kill Parisites make it BestLevelEver.

** Barbot is also pretty popular with the fanbase, to the point that fans wishes that he were a playable character. He also have a small MemeticBadass status thanks to his appearances as a [[DemonicSpider fearsome enemy]] in a few multiplayer modes.

** Also. It can tear [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr0tsCa5XWs Cthulhu apart with ease]].

* CompleteMonster: Durga. This is an excerpt from his official bio: "To Durga, [[BecauseImGoodAtIt work is work]]: [[HuntingTheMostDangerousGame He will track and execute any target, be it man]], [[WouldHitAGirl woman]] [[WouldHurtAChild or child]]. [[JerkAss Usually rude]], [[PsychoForHire psychotic]], [[AxCrazy and violent]], Durga becomes a cold and calculating killing machine in the midst of combat." [[spoiler: The fact he and Garuda (who is probably just as bad for serving him out of free will) are both KilledOffForReal in White Side Mission 3, compared to [[RedemptionEqualsLife being sent to rehab like]] [[ShellShockedVeteran Maximilian]], or arrested like [[BigBad Nikolai]], kind of shows how much of a bastard he is by even the game's standards.]]

* TearJerker: If you do the White Side first, the cutscene before the final battle with [[spoiler: Max]] really shows just how broken he is, begging Leo to kill him and blaming himself for [[spoiler: Stela's death]], before [[spoiler: his AxCrazy side comes out and he attacks Leo.]] Then, throughout the fight, [[spoiler: Max keeps on switching between his normal side and his psycho side as he attacks you, culminating in repeatedly begging Leo to kill him, then forgetting who Leo is, then letting out an ''agonized'' scream all within a few seconds.]] It really does show just how tortured the guy is. To top it all of, the music that plays in the fight is Leo's theme, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqkm7L4Ii3k Testin' Me]], which has lyrics that could very easily be interpreted as Leo recognising he may have to put [[spoiler: Max]] down, and completly hating himself for it.
