* On December 13, 2023, Website/{{Twitch}} made changes to its content policy that would relax restrictions on what it called "Artistic Nudity". Not long after these changes was implemented, users would take advantage of this to flood the Art category with art streams containing explicitly pornographic content, the most viewed of which featuring ''Manga/OnePiece'' character Whitebeard being drawn with a GagPenis. It only took two days for Twitch to roll this policy change back because of how much it was being abused.

* ''WebAnimation/DeathBattle'' has made it clear that there will no more be match-ups between characters from ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' and ''Franchise/{{Superman}}'' after the divisive Goku vs. Superman battles caused a lot of {{Flame War}}s from the results. That doesn't mean they won't use those franchises again - indeed, ComicBook/LexLuthor battled ComicBook/IronMan, and Hercule battled [[Franchise/StreetFighter Dan Hibiki]] after the two Goku vs. Superman fights were posted. You just won't see something like, say, Gohan vs. Superboy.

Not sure if this qualifies due to the subentry saying that the voice actress is the "bad apple" rather than the fans, contradicting the first entry.

* Voice actress Wubcake was quite prominent in the fandom for ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyEquestriaGirls'' and ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'', including being widely thought of as ''the'' fan voice for Sunset Shimmer. In 2020, Wubcake announced that she would no longer be making MLP-related content, choosing to focus on ''Franchise/{{Danganronpa}}'' content instead. [[https://youtu.be/aSbB498SnCQ?t=1234 In a livestream]], Wubcake cited general burnout with [[{{Typecasting}} being asked to do the same kinds of lines over and over in brony videos]], as well as meeting very toxic people in the brony fandom.
** She also cited a specific incident in which IDW MLP comic creator Jenn Blake raised tens of thousands of dollars on [=GoFundMe=] for her cancer treatment, then deleted all of her social media accounts shortly aftwards (per Blake's close friends, [[https://mlpfanart.fandom.com/wiki/Wubcake?commentId=4400000000000060743 this was due to the former comic creator's increasing irrationality resulting from the progression of her end-stage brain cancer]]). Wubcake posted in a now-deleted Twitter thread accusing Blake of scamming fans and not adequately expressing gratitude. When a fan backlash resulted from her accusation, she then accused Peter New, a voice actor from ''Friendship is Magic'' and friend of Jenn Blake, of [[QuoteMine quote mining]] her out of context and sending his Twitter followers to harass her. However, [[https://mlpfanart.fandom.com/wiki/Wubcake?commentId=4400000000000060743 the deleted Twitter thread was later recovered]] and showed that she had not only been quoted accurately, but had repeated her scam accusation even after the social-media disappearance had been explained by Blake's close friends. This led to further backlash against Wubcake, who then decided to bolt from the ''MLP'' fandom for a while.

** Circa 2014, the three creators gave their blessing for fans to do their own versions of the Seven Trials of HABIT (with all three making personal cameos in fan-made games). Some people abused the privilege, and began using the cast members' real names[[note]]the main characters [[TheDanza share the first names of their actors]], but are not given last names in the series (aside from Vincent's stage name, "Everyman")[[/note]] and incorporating details from their personal lives into fan-made content, with some going as far as to "borrow" and edit family photos from their social media accounts. This came to a head in 2021 when one underage fan (who claimed to have Dissociative Identity Disorder) began using Evan Jennings's identity online, claiming that his EMH character was one of their [[SplitPersonality alters]]; said individual's accounts began to turn up in Evan's background checks, complete with posts suicide baiting other fans of the series and [[UnfortunateImplications talking to and about their (also underage) partner]]. When Evan and his girlfriend asked the person to stop, they were [[InsaneTrollLogic accused of being ableist]], and a cancellation campaign was formed against them. Finally, Evan held a Twitter poll and had fans choose a last name for his character in order to differentiate himself from his onscreen persona (with "Evan Myers" winning out).

** Elsagate ended up causing this for Website/YouTube, although this has more to do with bringing the site into compliance with existing laws forbidding ads targeted at young children than it does with the fandom of the site. For those unaware of what Elsagate is, it was a major controversy surrounding channels that were making inappropriate videos targeted at kids that featured characters from children's media (most prominently Franchise/{{Spiderman}} and Elsa from ''[[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Frozen]]'', hence the name). ** In September of 2020, Coco Kiryu and Haato Akai were placed on suspension as a result of mentioning Taiwan as an independent nation while discussing viewer metrics in a live stream. Not in support of Taiwan, not in any way that disparaged China, simply acknowledging Taiwan's existence as an independent nation - which is a hot-button issue in the Chinese government. The main purpose of the suspension was not to punish Coco and Haato, but to protect them from Chinese nationalists that would harass them. After three weeks, their suspension ended, and they apologized in their following streams, but a large number of Chinese viewers continued to call for their termination. Unwilling to fire one of their biggest stars, and with the brand becoming tarnished in China, hololive ultimately ceased all business in China, which included the closure of their fledgling Chinese branch. As a sort of mercy, the streamers from the Chinese branch of hololive were allowed to keep almost all of their stream donations until their departure.

The harassment and troll attacks got so bad that it even led to him being doxxed and they even started attacking at his daughter. This lasted for nearly nine months, until January 2019 when he finally had enough of it and disabled both comments and ratings on all his videos. As of of 2022, he has since reinstated the comments on all of his videos as well as ratings. However, he has since privated his video on ''TLJ'' and has refused to make the video available again. The backlash and harassment he endured for his video on ''TLJ'' is the main reason why he semi-retired from [=YouTube=] to instead mostly focus on his livestreams on Twitch. Currently the majority of new content he posts to his [=YouTube=] channel are livestream highights highlights from his Twitch streams, which has resulted in his channel going into partal [[NetworkDecay Network Decay]]. While he occasionally still does movie collection videos, he has refused to go back and make nerd rage videos again, out of fear of creating and facing more backlash and harassment from other fandoms.

** LetsPlay/{{Markiplier}} started a Let's Play series for the game. However, after two videos, he abruptly stopped the series after the fandom commented on the videos and expressed their dislike at both his voices for the characters and his playstyle not being how ''they'' wanted him to play, dropping spoilers along the way. When Mark finally returned to it via Twitch, he made it a point to ignore the chat the entire time so he didn't get spoiled or harassed again.

** In late 2021, Connor of the ''Trash Taste'' podcast (also known as [=CDawgVA=]) argued in an interview with Ironmouse that becoming a member of hololive was a recipe for quick success because of the built-in fanbase for the brand itself rather than the merits of the talent. In early 2022, [[Characters/HololiveMoriCalliopeCh Mori Calliope]] was given a superchat in a members-only stream that argued she shouldn't collaborate with Connor anymore because of his previous comments, which Calliope thought was ridiculous. However, this one superchat ended up starting a firestorm of drama around both Connor and Calliope when a few toxic members of Calliope's fanbase, aka "deadbeats", began harassing Connor. This lead to a week-long break from streaming for Calliope, with clarification that she was waiting for the heat from the drama to die down before returning.

* During a hiatus for ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'', a contest was made for a fan-created Grimm in partnership with a collage institution. Things went so well until it got to the public voting phase involving five finalists, one of them being based off a {{Wendigo}}. Due to [[AmericansHateTingle the despised portrayal of wendigos in pop culture]], even including [[SpeakOfTheDevil the use of the name]], fans rallied together to harass the artist (even when they offered to change the Grimm's name despite it being too late to change it) and even [[VoteEarlyVoteOften ballot stuff the vote]] for another Grimm design. The end result was that both artists nearly quit the hobby and [=RoosterTeeth=] personally closing the election and [[DarkhorseVictory having a third party win]].

* The creators of ''WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID'' were formerly very accommodating with fans and loved interacting with them on social media and in livestreams. Following the end of the series, however, this is no longer the case, due to some extremely unpleasant incidents:
** Circa 2014, the three creators gave their blessing for fans to do their own versions of the Seven Trials of HABIT (with all three making personal cameos in some of the games). Some people took this as a carte blanche invitation, and began using the cast members' real names[[note]]the main characters [[TheDanza share the first names of their actors]], but are not given last names in the series (aside from Vincent's stage name, "Everyman")[[/note]] and incorporating details from their personal lives into fan-made content -- with some people going as far as to "borrow" and edit family photos from their social media accounts. This came to a head in 2021, when one underage fan (who allegedly Dissociative Identity Disorder) began using Evan Jennings's full name and identity online, claiming that his EMH character was one of their [[SplitPersonality alters]]. Said individual's accounts began to turn up in Evan's background checks -- complete with posts talking to and about their (also underage) partner. When Evan and his girlfriend asked the fan to stop, he [[InsaneTrollLogic accused them of being ableist]], and rallied his friends to harass the two of them. Finally, Evan held a Twitter poll and had fans choose a last name for his character in order to differentiate between himself and his onscreen persona (with "Evan Myers" winning out).

This is just blatantly false. The "harassment" she experienced was 99 times out of 100 just people saying they were uncomfortable with her decision or were just going to unsubscribe. Not to mention she was already planning on retiring according to several of her friends. Don't spread disinformation here.

* WebVideo/VOMSProject VirtualYoutuber Amano Pikamee announced in March 2023 her retirement from all activities related to her, primarily streaming, as well as [[KeepCirculatingTheTapes privatizing all previous streams on her account]]. While she quietly danced around the reasons why, it's widely accepted to have been the result of an incident she experienced the previous month where upon announcing her intent to stream ''VideoGame/HogwartsLegacy'' -- [[OvershadowedByControversy a game subject to an astonishingly hostile profile for its close association to franchise creator J.K. Rowling and her various controversial political statements]] -- Pikamee was targeted with a massive harassment/smear campaign that endured even after she rescinded her plan to play the game, apologized (acknowledging her interest in the game as having nothing to do with its politics), and went on a month-long hiatus from social media. Some peripheral comments have suggested she had already planned to retire in the near future for unrelated personal reasons, but the toxicity of the situation forced her into leaving far earlier than what anyone had planned.
