Kiara had always been presented as an only cub with no sign of any sibling around until there. Though it should be noted tie-in materials for the original TLK movie identified Simba and Nala's cub as male. So Kiara herself was a bit of a retcon. (For that matter, so was the notion that Scar actually had a bunch of lionesses who were on his side, but were off taking care of their own new male cubs during TLK's climax. It's a very convoluted timeline with or without Kion.)
