* FridgeLogic: What on earth would those Dwarfs need with all of those diamonds?! They live way up in the mountains, far, far away from where they could make any use of the stuff!
** Incidentally, one WartimeCartoon (obviously not canon) had them use the diamonds to buy War Bonds. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5Co-rAqeEA No, really.]]

** Also, why didn't the Dwarfs bury Snow White, even though they had no clue of her actual state of being? [[spoiler: They loved her too much to bury her.]]

* MoralEventHorizon: Oh dear god...The Queen definetly crosses it: she wants to kill an innocent girl (which is probably 16' or less) and for what ?!? Just beacuse she's probably more beautiful than her. And if it's not enough she planes to poison her with the Poison Apple and so making her fall into the Sleeping Death hoping the dwarves will bury her alive.

* AdaptationDyeJob: Averted in the final film, since Snow White has hair "as black as ebony," as described by the Brothers Grimm (plus [[BrownEyes brown eyes]]), but surviving pre-production drawings show Snow with [[BlueEyes blue eyes]] and [[HairOfGold blonde hair]] or [[RedHeadedHero red hair]]. Seems the animators had trouble choosing one color from [[BlondeBrunetteRedhead the typical hair color trifecta]].
* AllThereInTheScript: The Queen's real name, according to comic strips and old press material, is Queen Grimhilde. The Huntsman's name, Humbert, is also not given onscreen.
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Snow White, depending on how you view her, is either way too trusting, naive and friendly for her own good, or just plain TooDumbToLive.
* ArtShift: The book in the BookEnds is filmed in live action.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: Technically played straight with Snow White, although Disney intentionally made her "cute" instead of ravishingly beautiful. Subverted with the Queen, and possibly DoubleSubverted in that she disguises herself as a hag with the intention Snow White will think that someone that ugly HAS to be a good person.
* BookEnds: Literally; the movie opens with a shot of a book opening by itself to give out exposition, and ends with the same book closing itself.
* CallAndResponseSong: "I'm Wishing."
* CompleteMonster: The Queen.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: The opening and ending sequences. Nothing more needs to be said.
* CutSong: "Music in Your Soup" was to be sung by the dwarves during dinner, and "You're Never Too Old to be Young" was replaced by "The Silly Song". There were even more songs written for the film that never made it as far.

* [[DontTouchItYouIdiot Don't Touch It, You Fools!!]] It might be poison!! See?! It's witch's brew!
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Dopey, particularly around the time the film was originally released. Many predicted that he would become as big as Mickey Mouse and DonaldDuck. It didn't quite turn out like that, but still, to think that it might have is impressive.
** He was in fact the initial choice for the apprentice role in the ''The Sorcerer's Apprentice'' sequence from ''Disney/{{Fantasia}}''. He was replaced because Donald was the publics favorite Disney character at the time, and Walt Disney wanted Mickey back in that seat.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: See No Name Given below.
* EvilOverlooker
* EvilIsSexy: The Queen until she transforms herself into the hag.
* FanArt: The most notorious one is a couple of fan-drawings found in an old cellar in Norway, during German occupation in the late 30s... signed by the talented amateur artist [[AdolfHitler "Adolf H."...]]
* FourFingeredHands: The dwarfs.
* FridgeBrilliance: Why was Snow White so unsurprised about being woken from the dead and being led off by the prince? Because the last thing she had done was to take a bite out of what she thought was a "wishing apple", and her wish was that they be reunited.
** Take a look at the Queen's throne. It's shaped like a peacock, a symbol of vanity.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Snow White.
* GenreSavvy: The animals know the queen-hag is up to no good. Could it have been the vultures following her?
* GriefSong: "Chorale For Snow White."
* HeManWomanHater: Grumpy starts out as a misogynist. By the end of the film, [[CharacterDevelopment he's arguably the one who loves Snow White the most.]]
* HighCollarOfDoom: The queen.
** Snow White has a high collar, but it's more "soft" looking than the queen's.
* InsubstantialIngredients: The peddler disguise was comprised almost entirely of these.
* IWantSong: "I'm Wishing" and "Someday My Prince Will Come".
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Grumpy is initially opposed to having Snow White live with them, but he eventually warms up to her.
* KarnicDeath: [[spoiler:the Queen]]
* LargeHam: Averted with the queen, who is usually very controlled with her mannerisms, even when angry. But when she becomes The Witch, she throws all calmness right out the window, and begins right on [[DrunkOnTheDarkSide hamming it up.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: Dopey is accompanied by an odd little theme most of the time (it can be heard most easily in the soap scene).
* LoveAtFirstNote
* MakeAWish: Snow White starts out singing in a wishing well, hoping for a prince to come.
* MisplacedWildlife: Not too severe a case, but still worth of noting. While the story is supposed to be in medieval Europe, there's raccoons, Californian quails and turkey vultures.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: The Huntsman.
* MusicalChores: "Whistle While You Work," the first half of "Heigh Ho," and "Buddle-Uddle-Um-Dum."
* NightmareFuel: Plenty -- the Queen's transformation scene into the witch (as well as her witch disguise in question) and Snow fleeing into the woods are the best examples. The Disney theme-park ride these parts of the film inspired, "Snow White's Scary Adventures", is now ''legendary'' for freaking out tots.
** "She'll be BuriedAlive!!!! Hahaha!!"
** The queen kicking the skeleton in her dungeon and laughing adds some gratuitously creepy DeadBabyComedy. [[HighOctaneNightmareFuel "Have a drink!"]]
*** Because the guy died of thirst with the water jug ''just'' out of reach.
** There's a certain evil look the flesh-hungry vultures give each other from their perches when the evil Queen falls to her doom that's...[[PickyPeopleEater pretty creepy]], to say the least.
** Snow White spotting the Queen staring through the window.
** The creepy looking expressions of the trees during Snow White's run in the forest were pretty disturbing as well.
* NoKillLikeOverkill: Let's see: First, the ledge [[spoiler:the disguised queen]] is standing on in the climax gets struck by lightning, which sends [[spoiler:her]] falling to [[spoiler:her]] death...and if that wasn't enough, the boulder [[spoiler:she]] was trying to dislodge (to kill the dwarfs who were chasing [[spoiler:her]]) falls right in the direction of where [[spoiler:she]] was falling, just in case...oh, and did we mention the implications of [[spoiler:her]] body being devoured by the vultures that were following [[spoiler:her]]?
** The ending of {{Banjo-Kazooie}} makes a ShoutOut to this, as Gruntilda the witch (and a large chunk of her tower) is blasted away by the Jinjonator, which sends her and the chunk of rock careening down to earth. While Gruntilda surprisingly survives the fall (albiet leaving a big hole in the ground) the subsequent boulder makes sure she won't get getting out of there anytime soon...[[spoiler: at least not for two years, anyways.]]
* NoNameGiven: If happen you meet them at a [[DisneyThemeParks Disney Theme Park]], you'll find that the Queen and the Prince simply autograph their names as "The Queen" and "The Prince".
* ObviouslyEvil: The Queen in disguise isn't exactly the most subtle of all the beasts of the field.
* OddNameOut: Doc (whose name, unlike the others', isn't an adjective describing his personality).
** Then again, he does seem to be the brains of the group.
* OminousOperaCape: The queen
* OnlySaneMan: Grumpy's response to Snow White suddenly becoming their disciplinarian is arguably the closest to reasonable.
* OpeningChorus
* PimpedOutDress: Both Snow White and the queen have one.
* PragmaticAdaptation: Dropping the too-tight laces and poisoned comb murder attempts was done because Walt knew they would kill the momentum of the story. Indeed, while there is a good amount of {{Disneyfication}} in this film, the changes are arguably beneficial in terms of pacing and interest.
* PrincessClassic
* PunchClockVillain: The Huntsman and probably the Magic Mirror as well.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Dopey became TheSpeechless because a suitable voice actor couldn't be found.
** For that matter, the Prince got much less screen time than initially planned because he was the hardest character to animate.
* {{Rotoscoping}}
* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: Virtually any scene of significance in this movie has been copied, homaged, parodied, and/or ripped-off incessantly for over ''seventy years''. Best advice to parents is to show it to the kids quickly.
* ShallowLoveInterest: Oh come on. Don't even argue with me on this one. He doesn't even have a name!
** Although some fans use the scene at the end to form an AlternateCharacterInterpretation where he spends the entire movie looking for her while the plot is going on.
** If so, he would have gone to the castle first and presumably heard about the antidote to the spell.
** One of the releases (not sure which one, probably the DVD) said that the original intent was for the Prince to be captured by the Queen while looking for Snow White and have scenes involving his imprisonment and breakout. They were dropped in favour of the climax focussing on the dwarves.
* SidekickSong: "The Silly Song."
* StorybookOpening: The TropeMaker.
* TeamMom: Snow White to the dwarfs; scarcely have they agreed to let her stay and she starts taking charge of the place.
* TearJerker: After the chase and death of the Queen the dwarfs return home to find Snow White dead and the soundtrack skips to complete and total silence for a full minute; after the musical chaos of the previous scene it's the cinematic equivalent of a punch in the gut.
** When the dwarfs are surrounding her coffin and are all placing flowers, then Grumpy is the one who goes up to put the flowers in Snow White's hands...aw man, it gets people every time.
* TheRuntAtTheEnd: Dopey.
** Also the turtle. Turtles are slow, naturally.
* TheSpeechless: Dopey again.
* TheTropeSong: "The Silly Song."
* ThroughHisStomach: Snow White's cooking is what really sells the dwarfs on letting her stay with them.
* TrueLovesKiss: Replaces the jolting of the coffin to wake Snow White up.
* UncannyValley: ''Even back then'', everyone loved the cartoony dwarfs and noted how stiff and wooden looking the rotoscoped human characters were.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The legendary "Music In Your Soup" scene, a sequence where the dwarfs build a bed for Snow White, the prince being locked up in a dungeon, etc.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: Possibly the UrExample. In fact, Walt never intended "Disney" to become synonomous with "Children's Entertainment." Animation was just easier for all the detail he wanted to include in the story.
* WhenTreesAttack: Subverted, since it's just Snow White's imagination.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: In the scene where the dwarfs wash up for supper, Dopey accidentally swallows a bar of soap, causing him to hiccup bubbles. This was eventually resolved... in the deleted soup scene, in which he also swallows a spoon.
** Also, what happened to the huntsman who was supposed to kill Snow White? Maybe it's best we don't know.
*** According to the book "Mouse Under Glass," he was going to be dragged away by "Nubian tourturers." Let's just hope Snow White and the prince helped him out.Although we can just assume that he was [[NightmareFuel the skeleton the Queen kicked in the dungeon]]. [[FridgeLogic Though he did seem to decay rather quickly.]]
*** The skeleton may have been Snow White's father, the king.
**** No, it was not the hunter, but there was a deleted scene showing the prisoner alive, and asking for water.
*** When the mirror told the Queen that he faked the death, she rushed down to her lab to disguise herself and make the apple. It doesn't look as if she had time to order a punishment, which leaves his judgement in the hands of Queen Snow White.

* DisneyVillainDeath: Replaced the FamilyUnfriendlyDeath of red-hot iron shoes.
** Did we mention she also gets [[NoKillLikeOverkill struck by lightning, crushed under a boulder, and gets eaten by vultures]]? Let's face it, this is an instance where the original death is ''mild'' compared to the Disney version.
*** The lightning doesn't strike ''her'', it strikes the cliff she's standing on, which is what causes the cliff to break out from under her, thus plunging her to her demise. We don't ''see'' the rest of it, and so we are spared the full mess.
** More to the point, since it was ''nature'' killing the Queen, none of the good guys had to -- which makes it more family-friendly ''that'' way. (The Hayes Content Code is fun!)

* BeautyEqualsGoodness: Technically played straight with Snow White, although Disney intentionally made her "cute" instead of ravishingly beautiful. Subverted with the Queen, and possibly DoubleSubverted in that she disguises herself as a hag with the inention Snow White will think that someone that ugly HAS to be a good person.

[[DisneyAnimatedCanon Disney]] made ''SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarfs'' into an animated movie in 1937, the first full-length animated feature film in the English-speaking world. Using a number of new technologies and animation techniques, the film set high standards for future projects and can be considered a defining moment in animation history. Disney adapted the Grimms' story fairly closely, but allowed Snow White and her prince to meet earlier in the story (removing some of the {{Squick}}), and made the dwarfs into individual characters. He condensed the three assassination attempts into one, and gave the witch a much more family-friendly DisneyVillainDeath.

Also, you just KNOW Disney did something right when a man like '''Adolf Hitler''' of all people considered this the greatest film ever made, to the point where he even acquired a personal copy of the film's print for himself. Propaganda Minister Goebbels also gave the Führer a collection of MickeyMouse shorts, which he himself considered some of the most effective propaganda ever devised.

* AdaptationDyeJob: Averted in the final film, since Snow White has hair "as black as ebony," as described by the Brothers Grimm (plus [[BrownEyes brown eyes]]), but surviving pre-production drawings show Snow with [[BlueEyes blue eyes]] and [[HairOfGold blonde hair]] or [[RedHeadedHero red]] [[HeroesWantRedHeads hair]]. Seems the animators had trouble choosing one color from [[BlondeBrunetteRedhead the typical hair color trifecta]].
