* MeaningfulName: Amber and Ruby are sisters, and their matched gemstone/colour names may also refer to their contrasting hair colors; Amber is blonde (although it was established in ''Ménage à 3'' that her hair is naturally dark, so she presumably changed it for professional reasons), while Ruby is a redhead (so far as one can tell in a B&W comic).

* {{Nerd}}: Ruby, in a slightly unusual female form. She's not actually unattractive, her social ineptitude takes the form of abrasiveness rather than bumbling, she doesn't seem very interested in science or computers (her degree is in Business Administration), and we have no particular evidence about her physical fitness. However, the glasses, the opinionated attitude, and the privileging of intellect over social relationships, make her classic nerd. She's just the sort of nerd who [[Geek geeks]] despise.

* AllWomenAreLustful: At first, ''Sticky Dilly Buns'' looked to set to inherit this assumption from ''Ménage à 3'', with Amber and Chanelle discussing their interest in sex with considerable enthusiasm. Then Ruby showed up and averted the trope with extreme prejudice.

* ApplianceDefenestration: A variant is demonstrated [[found_it_in_our_bedsheets here]] by Ruby, despite the fact that the item was (a) small and (b) not what most people would call a domestic appliance, and the window was open.

* ADateWithRosiePalms: When first seen, Amber is looking to get back to dating. It later becomes clear how she's been making do, when Ruby accidentally discovers her "Battery Operated Boyfriend" under a sofa cushion.

* InspirationNod: [[http://www.stickydillybuns.com/strips-sdb/can_never_get_enough_of_this_show Ruby turns out to be a fan]] of ThreesCompany, which is an obvious predecessor to ''Ménage à 3'' and to this comic. She seems blissfully unaware that its recurrent theme of roommates making life difficult for each other is highly relevant to what she's doing to Amber; Amber, on the other hand, clearly sees the painful irony.

Apparently unable to process the suggestion, she guessed that Amber was herself ''confessing'' to being a lesbian. (Ironically, Amber was established to be bisexual in ''Ménage à 3'', although her behaviour so far in this comic has been entirely heterosexual.)
