[[GaiasLament Earth has been plunged into]] EndlessWinter. Humanity ekes out a living, barely, although money can get you a lot of things. Maybe a heated apartment, if you're really rich.

Those Two Bad Guys is replaced by Bumbling Henchmen Duo with a slightly different definition, as per this thread. These two might qualify as an example according to the original definition, but not the new one.

Added DiffLines:

** For the record, the thing they considered too evil for their standards was [[spoiler: a recording of Hunter's rape, which the hacker wanted to play for voyeuristic pleasure.]]

Added DiffLines:

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler: If Ayame hadn't picked up the plug and sold it to Cirr, it's likely the whole plot could have been averted, since the Queensmen would have (probably) recovered it before Prince William could.]]

Added DiffLines:

* RapeAsBackstory: [[spoiler: Hunter was raped by Queensmen when they broke up a protest she was a part of. She still has nightmares about it, but has resolved to try moving on.]]

because all the webcomics I ever liked need pages. All of them. Even as a kid

-->Once upon a time there was spring, summer, fall and winter. Now there is only winter.

[[GaiasLament Earth has been plunged into]] EndlessWinter. Humanity ekes out a living, barely, although money can get you a lot of things. Maybe a heated apartment, if you're really rich.

Hunter isn't. She lives with her boyfriend, Cirr, whom she literally rescued from a garbage bin, in a not-very-nice part of London, earning their living scavenging and fixing things, until a [[MacGuffin slightly odd electronic device]] falls into their hands by accident.

And things of this sort are always wanted by someone...

----
!!These tropes are freezing their butts off:
* AfterTheEnd: Energy crisis, EndlessWinter, the United Nations is a thing of history...
* TheArtfulDodger: Reann. It's in the chapter title. And [[GenkiGirl Ayume]], although she does have a home.
* BrokenBird: Both [[RapeAsBackstory Hunter's]] and [[DescentIntoAddiction Cirr's]] backstories are straight out of a HurtComfortFic. That this works somehow is only a testament of the author's skill.
* CatapultNightmare: Hunter's BadDreams cause her to fling herself out of bed and into the bathroom, where she [[StressVomit throws up]].
* TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong: While [[http://www.faitherinhicks.com/ice/page20.html this one]] is, actually, what happens to him would be DisproportionateRetribution.
* CondescendingCompassion: The Prince, while doing all this charity work, doesn't seem to have much of warm feelings towards its receivers.
* DeusExMachina: Our heroes, on the mercy of [[ThoseTwoBadGuys Munsch and Saul]], are suddenly rescued [[http://www.faitherinhicks.com/ice/page195.html here]] [[spoiler: by the Queensmen]]
* DialogueReversal: "Do you stay with me because you feel guilty?"
* DistantFinale: A year later, things are taking a turn for the better. [[spoiler: And Sarah comes to visit]].
* DistressedDude: Cirr tends to be. [[spoiler: Rescuing him for the second time makes Hunter grudgingly reconcile with her sister]].
* DoNotCallMePaul: Hunter's real name is [[spoiler: Sarah, like Cirr's sister]]. It's plot-relevant.
* EndlessWinter
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[http://www.faitherinhicks.com/ice/page113.html Munsch]]. He and Saul may be [[PsychoForHire ruthless murderers]], but they aren't deviants.
-->'''Munsch''': We must have our moral standards, or else we are no better than the rest of the rabble.
* EverybodyKnewAlready: Hunter worked out on her own that [[spoiler: Cirr is a noble - he has no tatoos whatsoever (believe us, she looked)]].
* FantasticDrug: Heat. Makes you warm and [[AddledAddict horribly addicted]]. And often dead, if overdosed.
* FirstPersonPerspective: The story starts with Hunter monologueing introspectively. Later, she narrates several times.
* {{Flashback}}: Many.
* ForWantOfANail: Discussed
-->'''Hunter''' (narrating): The old timers would say that people before would now wonder "if I'd never [[spoiler: taken home that stupid little dog]], would things have turned out different?
* GranolaGirl: Hunter used to be one before turning [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold all cynical]]. Remains egalitarian, though.
* HackerCave: [[http://www.faitherinhicks.com/ice/page108.html This guy's]] lair.
* HeroesLoveDogs: Hunter, despite her insisting otherwise and calling the hardly PostApocalypticDog who follows her home "Useless".
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Prince William, seems like. His story and Hunter's only intersect in one place.
* HookerWithAHeartOfGold: Mercy, just a bit. She's a stripper who helps our heroes, because [[spoiler: Hunter is her long-lost little sister]].
* [[IHaveNoSon I Don't Have A Sister]]: Hunter claims in so many words at the beginning of the comic.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: [[http://www.faitherinhicks.com/ice/page220.html It's better that way]].
* LipstickLesbian: Present day Mercy. The coming-out was a [[FiveStagesOfGrief difficult process]] for her.
* MacGuffin: [[spoiler: The super-plug Reann and Ayuome found]].
* MiseryPoker: An interesting variation between Cirr and Mercy, who compete on [[spoiler: how much each of them has hurt Hunter]].
* MundaneLuxury: Warmth, and energy in general, is very, very coveted.
* PoliceAreUseless: With a side helping of PoliceBrutality
* PowerSource: Plugs. They power things.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure [[spoiler: Queen Mary]]. Also, MsExposition.
* RecoveredAddict: Cirr. With strong TheAtoner vibe.
* ReducedToRatburgers: Some poor are, according to Hunter.
* RescueRomance: In a way, between Hunter and Cirr. [[spoiler: She found him in a dumpster and nursed out of a Heat withdrawal]].
* RevengeByProxy: In a {{flashback}}, Hunter tries to avenge herself on nobles by [[spoiler: selling the battered Cirr to a gang - but finally doesn't]].
* ScavengedPunk: For the poor, at least. Hunter's sister can afford premade stuff and good housing, barely.
* TalkingInYourSleep: [[spoiler: Cirr, in the process of being nursed back to health by Hunter, apologised to Sarah (his sister) in his feverish dreams. This convinced her to let him stay]].
* ThoseTwoBadGuys: Munsch and Saul. A very [[Literature/{{Neverwhere}} Croup-and-Vandemar]] pair of {{Boxed Crook}}s, recruited by the Prince for a task of utmost importance.
* TreasureChestCavity: [[spoiler: Hunter feeds the super-plug to Useless]].
* UpperClassTwit: [[spoiler: Cirr used to be one, and comes from]] an entire family of those, with Sarah as the WhiteSheep.
* TheWisePrince: Prince William [[spoiler: cultivates the image, but is really TheEvilPrince and TheStarscream]].
