** ''VideoGame/SonicAndTheBlackKnight'' was a game that he absolutely ''loathed'' when he first played it eleven years ago. When he re-reviewed it in 2020, while he considers it a mediocre game, he's considerably calmed down and is more appreciative of its positive qualities, such as its story writing (he considered it to be one of the better told Sonic stories in the latter half of the decade it was released in) and control improvements from ''VideoGame/SonicAndTheSecretRings''.

** Discussed InUniverse. Johnny feels that the Genocide route in ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}'' dives too deep into this trope, claiming that the game denies the player of anything fulfilling and beats it over their head that being a dick is wrong. While Johnny did understand that the whole point behind the Genocide route is to show how dark players have to be just to get OneHundredPercentCompletion and see everything, he feels that both the Genocide and the Pacifist routes should have equal gameplay and content and that despite whatever points the game was trying to make, he just wants to play the game as a game rather than being told what he is doing is wrong.

* StoryArc: One involving a strange Sonic hat that warps the mind of whoever wears it to commit horrible misdeeds, such as... playing ''Sonic R''.
** He returned for revenge in the ''VideoGame/SonicR'' review revealing himself as the Tails Doll.
*** He returned again in the [[spoiler: ''VideoGame/{{Saw}}'' review disguised as Jigsaw - only to be trapped in the TV.]]
** If one counts the several Months of's as Story Arcs, there's been (in chronological order):
*** The very first Month of Sonic (done in celebration of ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'', and now {{missing|Episode}} because Johnny was dissatisfied with the results).
*** Month of Metroid, which covered all of the 2D ''Franchise/{{Metroid}}'' games.
*** Month of Sonic 2, which covered all of Sonic's games in the Classic Era in celebration of ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog4''.
---> '''Johnny:''' Episode 1.
*** Month(s) of [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]], which covered all of Mario's classic 2D games.
*** Month of ''Franchise/{{Castlevania}}'', which covered all of the console Classicvania games except ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaChronicles'' and ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaRondoOfBlood''. He reviewed the latter later. And directly after that he covered ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaSymphonyOfTheNight''.
*** Month [[{{ScheduleSlip}} plus one week]] of ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'', which covered the [[VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue first generation of the RPGs]], ''VideoGame/PokemonStadium'' (the first entry in the US), a retrospective and a small tutorial on [[TabletopGame/{{Pokemon}} the trading card game]], ''VideoGame/PokemonSnap'', and the [[VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver second generation of the RPGs]] (he also squeezed in a tiny review of ''Pokemon Stadium 2'' in the second generation review).
*** The ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' Marathon, which covered all of Sonic's 3D games that were covered in the original Month of Sonic and excluding the ones past ''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006 Sonic '06]]'', which were already reviewed (Named so because he knew that he couldn't cover all the games in a month's time span, especially when one starts in the middle of November 2012).
*** ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'' Marathon, which covered the first five console Zelda games. This means that despite fan requests, ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaLinksAwakening'' was not revie-Wait, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIucVo-fHEU what?]] Due to ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Ocarina of Time]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Majora's Mask]]'' being quite long, it wasn't going to occur over the span of a month.
*** After the above marathon, despite saying he was taking a break from marathons, he took it upon himself to review several indie games in a row. The narrator from ''VideoGame/{{Bastion}}'' (who Johnny hired to narrate for the review [[spoiler:and then [[WeirdCurrency payed with rocks]]]]) even [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] this. Recognizing this, he named it the Indie Showcase in the last review. He reviewed ''VideoGame/{{Braid}}'', ''Super VideoGame/MeatBoy'', ''VideoGame/CaveStory'', ''VideoGame/{{Bastion}}'', ''VideoGame/DustAnElysianTail'' and finally ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}''.
*** The Mega Man Marathon, which covered all the ''VideoGame/MegaManClassic'' games. Excluding complications, handheld games, the fighting games, and the non-platforming spinoffs. And ''VideoGame/StreetFighterXMegaMan''. But he did do ''VideoGame/MegaManPoweredUp''. And ''[[UpdatedRerelease Mega Man: The Wily Wars]]''.
*** After a retrospective on his UsefulNotes/PlayStation memories growing up, Johnny reviewed all the ''VideoGame/CrashBandicoot'' games on the previously mentioned system in a row. A name was never officially given to it, but it is fairly safe to call it The Crash Bandicoot Marathon (though it's nice to note that it was only 5 days off from qualifying as a Month of).
*** In celebration for reaching 100,000 subscribers, there was a period of time where Johnny reviewed games chosen by voters from a group of 2 to 3 titles. It was never acknowledged as a Marathon, and it was very brief, but it was a theme. The games reviewed were ''[[VideoGame/DragonBallZBudokai Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 & 3]]'', ''VideoGame/{{Guacamelee}}'', ''VideoGame/SonicAndTheSecretRings'', and ''VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG''.
*** The Another Mario Marathon (this name chosen to very pettily "punish" Johnny for never giving the Marathon an official name again), where Johnny goes after all of Mario's 3D console platforming games, from [[VideoGame/SuperMario64 the one that started it all]] to, ''VideoGame/SuperMario3DWorld''. As previously noted by Johnny, the two reviews before the Another Mario Marathon (''VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG'' and ''[[VideoGame/YoshisIsland Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island]]'') could be considered an unofficial start to it. And that is all.
*** The First Donators Marathon, wherein from a black box, games emerge donated throughout 2014 to Johnny for reviewing. It featured the stinkers ''Series/CoryInTheHouse'', and ''Mary-Kate And Ashley: Sweet 16 – Licensed To Drive'', the much beloved ''VideoGame/SpongebobSquarepantsBattleForBikiniBottom'' and ''VideoGame/{{Psychonauts}}'', the stinker ''[[VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork Mega Man Network Transmission]]'', the CultClassic ''VideoGame/EccoTheDolphin'', the stinker that is the ''VideoGame/{{Bubsy}}'' series, and lastly featured the Cult Classic ''VideoGame/XMenLegends'' series.
----> '''Johnny:''' You just never know what's gonna come out of this box. [[labelnote:*]] ''[Unless you watched the Too Many Games 2014 video, keep up with the LP channel, and also watched the Sonic Boom 2014 Event Impressions, in which case you have a'' '''very''' ''good idea of what's coming out of that box.]'' [[/labelnote]]
*** The Second Indie Showcase, which [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin showcased a lot of indie games for the second time in a row.]] Like last time, viewers could vote on which games were reviewed, only this time though a organized strawpoll. Also, a curve-ball was thrown where two winners were already chosen, so forth and fifth place ended up winning. He reviewed in order (long inhalation of air) ''VideoGame/{{Journey}}'', the [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys1 first]] [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys2 three]] [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys3 games]] in the ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys'' series, ''VideoGame/{{Speedrunners}}'', ''VideoGame/ShovelKnight'', ''[[VideoGame/SkullGirls Skullgirls Encore]]'', ''VideoGame/{{Terraria}}'', ''[[VideoGame/{{Octodad}} Octodad: Dadliest Catch]]'', ''VideoGame/AxiomVerge'', all of the games in the ''[[VideoGame/{{Shantae}} Shantae]]'' series released at the time, ''VideoGame/PapersPlease'', Hotline Miami [[VideoGame/HotlineMiami 1]] and [[VideoGame/HotlineMiami2WrongNumber 2]], ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys4'', and lastly ''VideoGame/TheAngryVideoGameNerdAdventures''. (gasp gasp). The review of AVGN Adventures also happened to coincide with his 100th Johnny vs. review.
*** By popular demand, Johnny did the ''Franchise/MetalGear'' Marathon, covering all the games from ''VideoGame/MetalGear1'' to ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidV''. This is also known as the longest marathon so far as it started in mid-November 2015, and ended in early April 2016.
*** Right after the Metal Gear Marathon, Johnny goes to the cult classic ''VideoGame/{{Mother}}'' Series, looking at all three titles, and ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}''.
*** ''Franchise/StarFox'' Marathon covered all the games up to ''VideoGame/StarFoxZero''. A break took place in the middle of the marathon as ''Metroid Prime Galactic Federation'' and the fan game ''[=AMR2=]'' was released around that time.
*** For the fourth time, Johnny went back to Sonic the Hedgehog, this time covering the handheld titles (along with a few Sega Master System titles), as well as looking at the Sonic Rider trilogy, Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed, and a re-review of ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed''. It has the official title of The Sonic Handheld Marathon, [[ArtifactTitle despite the non-handheld games]]. ''[[VideoGame/{{Shantae}} Shantae: Half-Genie Hero]]'' was reviewed in the middle of it.
*** Johnny did a "Zelda Revisited" marathon by looking at the rest of the console titles of Legend Of Zelda such as ''Wind Waker'', ''Twilight Princess'', ''Skyward Sword'', and ''Breath of the Wild''. A short break with a review of ''VideoGame/ScannerSombre'' occurred in the middle.
*** For Summer 2017, Johnny decided to finally look at all of the ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' games, excluding the mobile ones. With the series infamous for its complex storylines, it was an interesting look for Johnny. It ended up being his second-longest marathon yet, stopping just short of beating out the Metal Gear Marathon by one day. It helps that it was constantly interrupted by other games, those being ''VideoGame/KnucklesChaotix'', ''VideoGame/CrashBandicootNSaneTrilogy'', ''VideoGame/SonicMania'', ''VideoGame/MetroidSamusReturns'' and the streaming service ''Jump On-Demand Gaming''.
*** For his first marathon of 2018, Johnny did the Second Donators Marathon. Like last time, Johnny pulls out a random game from the black box and reviews it. However, unlike last time, Johnny did not reveal what the next game would be at the end of the video, instead deciding to add suspense for the viewer. In addition, games donated to him via UsefulNotes/{{Steam}} became eligible in this marathon. That year, he looked at ''VideoGame/GoDiegoGoGreatDinosaurRescue'', ''Dragon Power'' (oh wait, I mean an American version of ''[[Manga/DragonBall Dragon Ball: Shenron no Nazo]]''), ''VideoGame/NarutoClashOfNinja'', ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'', ''VideoGame/EnterTheMatrix'', ''VideoGame/TheStanleyParable'', and ''VideoGame/DarkSouls''.
*** For Summer 2018, Johnny goes back to the Mega Man franchise, this time covering the ''VideoGame/MegaManX'' games. In that marathon, he covered the eight main titles, the ''Xtreme'' mini-series, and ended the marathon with ''VideoGame/MegaManXCommandMission''. A short break in between ''X8'' and ''Command Mission'' took place with a review of ''VideoGame/MegaMan11''.
*** As hinted at the end of his ''VideoGame/SpiderManPS4'' review, Johnny returns to the ''Pokémon'' series after six years. For that marathon, he stared with Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, before moving onto Generations 3-5. He also included some spin-off games such as ''Hey You Pikachu'', ''Pokemon Coliseum'', and ''Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness''. In the interim between Generations 4 and 5, Johnny sidetracked into his favorite Metroidvania genre by reviewing ''VideoGame/EagleIsland''.
*** The ''Double Marathon'' was mentioned in the channel update video which Johnny posted right after finishing Pokémon Marathon. It features games from two franchises: ''Resident Evil'' and ''Kirby''. The way it works is that Johnny will look at one game from one of the franchises, and go into a game from the other franchise (for example: Johnny looked at ''Kirby's Dream Land'', before going into ''Resident Evil 1'', and then back to ''Kirby's Adventure''). ''The Takeover'' was reviewed in between the marathon. The Kirby Marathon went through the main games from the first ''Kirby's Dream Land'' to ''Kirby's Squeak Squad'', and ended with ''Kirby's Air Ride''. The Resident Evil Marathon started with the first game and ended with ''Resident Evil 4'' as he wanted to look at other games due to burning out (and thanks to a Strawpoll where the fans decided to give him a break).
*** After years of humming and hamming about it, Johnny's next marathon has him tackle the ''Final Fantasy'' games. Because of the length of the series (both in games and playtime), Johnny decides to break them into different parts with other games reviewed in between. Part 1 focused on the three Famicom titles alongside the fourth game (which was the fist game of the franchise he played) and ended it with Mystic Quest.
*** His current marathon are re-reviews of the classic Sonic games, including ''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog1991 Sonic 1]]'', ''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2 Sonic 2]]'', ''VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles'', and potentially others in celebration of Sonic’s 30th anniversary.

The Gilly The Kid subplot is no longer an aborted arc

* AbortedArc: [[https://www.youtube.com/user/RetrocityZone Gillythekid]] permanently breaking Johnny's Censored Mode and subsequently vanishing from existence during the ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker Super Mario Maker 2]]'' review hasn't been followed up on: John simply repairs the Censored Mode several episodes later and Gilly [[UnexplainedRecovery appears like nothing happened]] at the beginning of the ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand'' review. However Johnny mentions that he is still trapped in another dimension in his round 2 review of ''VideoGame/ShovelKnight''.

Gilly suddenly reappears ten months later during the ''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2 Sonic The Hedgehog 2]]'', mentioning he escaped Purgatory simply because Johnny was reviewing the game. However between the two, there was a ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand'' review, where Gilly simply [[UnexplainedRecovery appears like nothing happened]] as one of Johnny's friends pressuring him to do a Kirby marathon.

* StatusQuoIsGod: Johnny's Censored Mode remote control is broken during his ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker Super Mario Maker 2]]'' review by Gilly the Kid. This might have been used to justify John swearing less and using [[SoundEffectBleep bleeping]] on a permanent basis due to [=YouTube=]'s policies. However, Johnny later ended up going back on that decision and, a few episodes later, his ''VideoGame/TeamSonicRacing'' review starts with him repairing the remote and disabling Censored Mode.

** Besides ''Metroid'', he's also a major fan of the {{Metroidvania}} genre in general, as he loves the feeling of exploring the unknown, having several ways to reach your destination that don't immediately connect with each other, and getting stronger along the way because of said exploration. This leads to many of his fans recommending different Metroidvania games for him to try out.
