Ben Rants is a internet rant series created by Ben Tannehill. The series initially debuted in April 10th, 2009 under Ben's [=PuffyZillaman4=] account & was met with mixed results by many YouTube members.

Ben Rants consisted of several different topics in it's initial run, such as rants on TV shows, movies, lists of favorite TV shows & movies & occassionally giving out his thoughts on topics (& one singing segment that Ben deeply regrets). By the end of 2010 & beginning of 2011, the rants started to cause controversy & they were easily one of the most criticised web series on YouTube, only rivalling Guptill89 & Mariotehplumber at the time.

Because of an error concerning his [=PuffyZillaman4=] account, Ben created a new channel called Benthelooney. After 90 videos, Ben Rants ended production in 2011, because Ben wanted to retire from ranting & focus on positive videos. Two months later with impressive fan requests , the show was put back into production in 2012. A change in format happened to support this resurrection of the rants series such as turning Ben T Looney into a Nostalgia Critic type of character, alternate takes on opinions, remakes of previous videos & a different design. Many fans of the original show criticise the new rants for flanderization, retcons of previous statements & focusing more on the jokes than the subject at hand, where many of the newer fans enjoy the new videos because they feel that Ben is less biased & nostalgic than he was in the first run & gives modern cartoons more of a chance.

Because of college, Tannehill is planning to cancel the series once & for all to focus on becoming an animator so don't expect another revival.

Around 2010 this was fleshed out and he started to get angry over certain subjects but despite that still remained the personality of the 2009 videos and continued this throughout in 2011. In 2009 to June of 2012, Ben T Looney was a [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Jerk With A Heart Of Gold.]] While he was very opinionated, he had nothing against the people that liked him. Following the uncancellation of Ben Rants, Ben Rants & Ben T Looney became more joke based & more of a Jerk Ass to the point of where his videos from the original run are unrecognizable.

** His overall rants have suffered flanderization as well. The rants series started off as more serious & stuck to talking about the subject of the rant with an occasional joke thrown in there (much like Chris Lee Moore's TV Trash). But when it was uncancelled, Ben started to put in more jokes as possible to the point of where every rant includes an overload of jokes.

* SellOut: Ben Tannehill is often considered this by many of his former fanbase & has been since the 2012 return of his rants for the sake of Ben T Looney's flanderization, change in rants formula, contradicting former opinions(Disliking Phineas & Ferb, Mad, Pokemon & liking Adventure Time & Regular Show), jumping on bandwagons & making Ben T. Looney more like The Nostalgia Critic. One that is reviled among many previous fans is his "character" excuse which in itself is flanderized from the original claim that he was "acting".
* SpiritualSuccessor: Chris Lee's Moore WebVideo/TVTrash even though it premiered around the same time that Ben's first run rants were being made, can be seen as this due to The Rowdy Reviewer featuring similar characterization, jokes & focus on subject he is ranting on as Ben did in the first run of his rants. (Seeing as Ben became largely different after uncancelling his rants)

** Also, he has changed opinions on certain shows throughout the run of his videos, including Scooby Doo,Pokemon, and Phineas and Ferb (he doesn't necessarily hate it though, he just thinks the formula has worn thin), and the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie. The same could also be said for his opinions on Pixar (though he explained in a later video that he doesn't really hate them as much as he let on in the rant). He has, however, grown to like some shows he previously hated, such as The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time, and Regular Show.
