Call it a long shot, but there are few if any actual superhumans in the setting who didn't get their powers from the same element that gave the agents theirs. Maybe the actual [=DNAgents=] were based on research that created him for a totally different purpose, and whoever created him was a comic book geek who programmed in all the different origin stories he talks about having. He honestly doesn't know any different so he always changes his story when asked.
