Before succumbing, Neo changed to Cinder as a way of asking Ruby to kill the Fall Maiden in her place as payback for what happened to Torichwick and using her, which Ruby agreed to do so (only because Cinder is too dangerous to live, not out of vengeance for Pyrrha and Penny). Neo expresses final thoughts of wanting to be with Torchwick in the afterlife.

Concluding that [[UnwittingPawn Cinder was using her the whole time]] and her {{Revenge}} was AllForNothing, Neo expresses frustration over it as [[VillainousBreakdown she grieves for Torchwick]] after a failed [[DrivenSuicide suicide attempt]]. Ruby or Jaune would try to comfort a still-broken Neo, telling her that they've lost someone (Pyrrha and Penny) too. Depending on who would sway Neo to Team RWBY and Jaune's side this how it would play out: If Jaune is present, he would also tell Neo that he knows how she really feels because he went through the same thing too, recalling the events of Volumes 4 and 5. Otherwise, Ruby would convince Neo to let go of the past and keep living for Torchwick's sake before promising her that they'll get back at Cinder together as justice for their "One Things". Neo reluctantly agrees and forms a truce with Team RWBY and Jaune as their TokenEvilTeammate in the same vein as [[Series/TheWalkingDead Negan Smith]].

The latter would be more emotionally powerful if it's chosen as how Ruby would grieve.

And as a side note, if Penny and her friends manage to return to Remnant by the end of this volume, she could be saddened when she leaves the new world she and her friends fell through, like the girl in the fairy tale. That could allow her the have an emotional moment, harkening back to the line "And is this what "all the feels" means?" in the song "Friend", right down to saying the line in question.

The point is, Penny could be brought back to life so the rest of the characters from ''Pinocchio'' could be officially adapted into ''RWBY''. It would honestly feel weird if they adapted Jiminy Cricket into the story, without the Pinocchio stand-in to act as a conscience to. Add the voice calling out for Ruby in the Volume 9 teaser, which sounds a lot like her, and it could possibly add all up in the end.
