While it's unclear yet as to whether she'll stick around, it would also explain why Ash only has five Pokémon at him at a time, with the sixth slot being reserved for a future catch- and in this instance, Latias seems like the most likely option, probably joining Ash of her volition. It would also be fitting to have him cap off the series by capturing a Legendary.
