He just wants to die. To be more specific, he wants to return to the Spirit Realm, since it's been hinted in the sequel that death was the only way he could obtain peace. Being forced to return to the Mortal World by The Chameleon only to have his habilities taken away and possibly being caged (and therebefore, suffer again) would infuriate him.
Shen would take Po's side in hopes that the latter can recover his staff so the former could return to the Realm properly, without having to experience an explosive death again.

[[WMG: Master Pangolin is ancestor of Han.]]
The new clip also features one of the artifacts in the Hall of Heroes being Indestructible Chain Hammer of Master Pangolin, who's a new master introduced to the series by fourth movie, while one of the prominent characters appearing in the movie is Han, the leader of the Den of Thieves, who is ''a pangolin''. This can't be a coincidence to have one of the new masters introduced to the series share the species with one of the characters that debut in this movie. And given that Han displays some martial arts in one of the spots where he fights with Chameleon army, it could be likely that he's descendant of the long dead kung fu master, who for some reason turned to crime.

[[WMG: Zhen is a ninja.]]
[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xt4iA5UOhDk New clip]] shows that her stealth outfit looks similar to those that were worned by ninjas, she moves in a very ninja-like manner, and seems to have experience in martial arts despite being some common thief. This could mean that either Zhen is kunoichi from Japan or (going by above mentioned theories of Chameleon killing her parents) she comes from a lineage of ninjas, with her parents (who emigrated to China with her) teaching her ninjutsu when she was a child. When Zhen parents infiltrated Chameleon palace for some unknown reasons, they accidentally learned about her nefarious plans, which resulted in reptilian sorceress killing them in cold blood, and making Zhen orphan, forcing her to become thief and using her ninja skills to steal things in order to survive.

[[WMG: Zhen's jade earring is a TragicKeepsake from her parents.]]
Notice that Zhen is wearing a jadeite earring on one of her ears, [[NonStandardCharacterDesign while no characters that had appeared in previous movies had wear earrings]], ''especially'' only on one ear. Going by above mentioned theory that Chameleon killed Zhen parents, it could be possible that Zhen's earring is present from her mom, who had give it to her ''way'' before Chameleon killed her and her husband, and now Zhen wears it because it's the only thing left from her parents. This could also tie-in into above "Po and Zhen finding out they have much in common" theory.

[[WMG: The badger, wolf, half-blind crocodile and golden-tusked boar that appear at one point in the trailer aren't bandits that Chameleon hired, but rather citizens of Juniper City who are offering her gifts in order to let her spare them.]]
If you look closely in [[https://www.reddit.com/r/kungfupanda/comments/18hq144/the_chameleon_kung_fu_panda_4_new_villain/ this scene]], you can notice that all four of them are holding gold in their hands while crocodile and boar have "worry and concern" looks on their faces. Given that her temple towers over the Juniper City, it could be that Chameleon is a SmallTownTyrant who forces citizens to give her offerings, in similar way to [[WesternAnimation/Ducktales2017 Magica and Poe DeSpell's]].

[[WMG: If the movie will explore Tigress backstory (as explained in the theory above) and her family will appear, her father will be voiced by Creator/EricBauza.]]

If you pay close attention to her temple in the trailer, you can notice that it's adorned by distinctive stonework and statues found common in [[Mayincatec pre-Columbian temples]]. Said Mayincatec pattern also is found on her robes, and her guards are iguanas - genus of lizards inhabiting South America. This could mean that unlike previous BigBads, Chameleon wasn't born in China and most likely emigrated from some Mayincatec civilization (most likely the one from ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPandaTheDragonKnight'' [[LooseCanon if this show is canon to the movies]]) to China for some [[NothingIsScarier unknown reasons]].

[[WMG:Tai Lung will act as a mentor to the violent bunny children.]]
In the [[https://www.reddit.com/r/kungfupanda/comments/19aenx8/new_kfp4_poster/ Chinese poster]] for the film, Tai Lung is seen taking a stance right behind the bunny triplets, two of whom are also ready for battle. Since the bunnies love violence and mayhem, it could be that they [[InLoveWithYourCarnage become fans of Tai Lung]], so perhaps he takes them in and either adopts them or makes them his students. It could also fit in with a possible HeelFaceTurn for Tai Lung, as he might have to reconcile with Shifu and start improving his behavior in order to set a good example for the bunnies.

[[WMG:The Chameleon will be related to Tigress past.]]
I noticed some interesting pattern going throughout all three movies - namely, the main villain of their respective film is related to one of the main character's past in one way or another. Thus, Tai Lung is related to Shifu's past, Shen to Po's, while Kai to Oogway's. Given that Tigress is fourth most important hero character in the series, it could be possible that The Chameleon will be somewhat related to her past - maybe she's the one that killed/separated her from her parents, resulting in Tigress ending up in orphanage.

* The Chameleon is from a different world and she needs more then what her world has so she uses her magic to gather dragon warriors to her world and absorb them so she can be a dragon goddess.

** Why The Chameleon has Po's powers even though they just met (it comes from a different Po),
** Why Po dose not consider using his Panda family for an army like in the third movie he is in a different world and they are not with him.

[[WMG:Po and Zhen will find out they have much in common.]]
As the trailer shows, Zhen isn’t exactly the most obvious choice to be the Dragon Warrior’s apprentice, with her being a wanted criminal. However, later in the story when [[DarkestHour Po and/or Zhen have been captured/defeated by the Chameleon]] they could find out they have much in common, with a possibility that would be great for the story and give a lot of emotion would be that Po and Zhen were both given up by their parents. However, while Po’s did it out of love to protect him Zhen could’ve been abandoned by her parents which would be a great callback to the 2nd movie.

[[WMG:Tai Lung will be the big surprise of the film.]]
In [[https://www.animationscoop.com/interview-kung-fu-panda-4-preview-with-the-directors-and-producer/ this interview]], director Mike Mitchell states that Tai Lung is his favorite ''Dreamworks'' villain, and co-director Stephanie Ma Stine says that Tai Lung's relationships with Oogway, Shifu, and Po will be important. When you factor in his prominent appearances in the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_inKs4eeHiI trailer]] and [[https://www.reddit.com/r/kungfupanda/comments/18gy26j/better_look_at_the_kfp4_poster/ poster]], as well as the fact that he's apparently getting his own [[https://www.reddit.com/r/kungfupanda/comments/18wnoce/new_kung_fu_panda_4_toys/ toy]], it sounds like Tai Lung might be much more important to the film than the plot summary is letting on.

If Tai Lung gets a possible redemption story, it will be abridged at best. Po is the protagonist and the movie will have to focus on and build up several new characters (Zhen, the Chameleon, the Den of Thieves), so even in the best-case scenario (assuming the real Tai Lung isn't just a glorified cameo), the snow leopard's role will at most be a subplot. If there's going to be an EnemyMine and/or HeelFaceTurn arc for him, they'll have to take shortcuts in the story department, such as Tai Lung having already done a lot of soul-searching off-screen while in the Spirit Realm, [[RedemptionEqualsDeath or sacrificing himself during a battle]], because there is only so much they can do with a subplot for a supporting character within the confines of a 90-minute movie that's already packed with characters.

[[WMG:Po will need his staff to stop the Chameleon.]]
As shown in the trailer, Po is able to use his staff given by Oogway in the third movie, to use chi attacks, and at the end, the Chameleon shape-shifts into an alternate Po. Earlier on in the trailer, Tai Lung is brought back and the Chameleon is able to shape-shift into an alternate version of him by taking away his Kung Fu. Chances are, she did the same to Po and he will have to use his staff to stop her.
