While Juan deals with supernatural threats Cardo deals with more mundane national threats such as criminality and political corruption. Cardo has dealt with Samuel's aswang syndicate but has left it to Juan to deal with the issue since he is facing another criminal group. Of course this is assuming that in universe the characters dont look like the actors who portrayed them.

*At the start of the series we saw and heard on how the Tagabantay and aswangs came to be in an animated narrative. **The Engkantos probably instructed a Spanish priest-blacksmith to craft the Bakal na Krus. He created the cross and the Engkantos infused the cross with nanotechnology. The technology is locked by a password which was unlocked by Datu Bangaraw through "prayer". The cross only recognizes people who shares DNA with Datu Bangaraw thus only he and his descendants can use it.
