At one point, you and Kanae are suspected of thievery and locked in a tool shed[[labelnote:*]]though you are at least told that it's only as a precaution, since the thieves' descriptions are admittedly very similar to yours and Kanae's.[[/labelnote]] even though you just stopped the feud between the streets and arrest an arsonist. It only gets worse as the disaster spreads and causes shortages of food, water, and essentials; later in the story, you get praised as a savior because of the supposed healing properties of your "healing water"[[note]]Actually just a novelty water bottle that you fill from a broken pipe on a nearby building; the healing effects were from the first case simply being dehydration that the mundane water very easily cured, and every "healing" after that was either quenching their thirst or just downright a ''placebo.''[[/note]], but literally the ''moment'' they find out that there was nothing magical about your water after all, they immediately turn against you '''''en masse''''' and run you out of the shelter.

* SequelHook: PlayedWith in ''Summer Memories''. [[spoiler: In the aforementioned Miracle Water example, the protagonist is given the option to ask that the game's title be changed to ''Disaster Report 5'', which is reflected on the title and loading screens. The hypothetical fifth game is also stated in a magazine to be an {{Interquel}} set between the first and second games.]]

* ''Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3: Kowareyuku Machi to Kanojo no Uta'': A Japanese student leaves home, journeying to a megalopolis to start a new life at university, but their dream life is shattered when the city is destroyed by a massive earthquake. With survival hanging in the balance, they must face off against not only other survivors, some of which with dangerous motives, but mother nature itself, and the student's choices will affect the relationships they make--and may just determine who lives and dies in the shattered city. Only released in Japan, this was the first game to feature 2-4 player co-op, via ''ad hoc'' connection, instead of being a single player-only game like previous installments. A full FanTranslation was released in July 2022.

* ImprobableInfantSurvival: Averted in ''Summer Memories''. We thankfully don't see children dying, but at one point, you see a building in which a mother and two young children (and several others) are taking shelter collapse into the water with practically no hope of survival or recovery. Later in the story, surviving children from a burned-down orphanage ask you to bring them intact flowers to pay respect for their friends that died in the fire.

* ActionSurvivor: Natch. The games are literally about ''being'' one yourself; there's no fighting element in the games save for a few cutscenes, but most of the danger just comes from trying not to be killed by the natural disasters and the various hazards they create.

* BitchInSheepsClothing: ''Oof.'' Every game has their fair share of these, both of the male and female variety, and in varying levels of Bitch. [[spoiler: Just three from ''Summer Memories'' are Eri, who acts calm and collected but is actually bullying her friend Hiroko due to the stress of the disaster, Kiyoko Maeda, the kindly old woman who you can offer your seat to in the beginning of the game but is actually running a '''human trafficking ring''' taking advantage of the disaster, and Tomoya Kazama, a young man who is engaged to Kanae and is assisting with relief efforts but is actually Maeda's [[TheDragon Dragon.]]]]

* FantasticRacism: Interestingly in a non-fantasy game, this trope rears its head in ''Summer Memories'' with the native residents of Hisui City, which regard anyone from outside the city, even ''fellow Japanese citizens'' with suspicion and derision, though foreigners from other countries get it worse.

* RuthlessModernPirates: [[spoiler: A variant of them show up during the endgame of ''Summer Memories'' if you choose to go to the airport for evacuation. They're taking advantage of the chaos and people desperate to leave the city by tricking and kidnapping them onto a boat to be shipped off into their human trafficking ring. "Keith," (a.k.a. '''[[BitchInSheepsClothing Tomoya Kazama]]''') even says he's not from Japan, but an unnamed (but implied to be another Southeast Asian country in the same geographic region of Japan, according to Keith) country torn apart by civil war and that he was able to operate so well in the city during the disaster was because, thanks to the widespread destruction, resource shortages, and people acting so selfishly and distrustful, it really was NotSoDifferent than the [[WarIsHell war zones]] he grew up in.]]

* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler: "[[BitchInSheepsClothing Keith]]" gives one in ''Summer Memories'' to the people of Hisui City, though not directly; his boss asks him how he was able to operate so comfortably in the city despite being part of [[SlaveryIsASpecialKindOfEvil an organization like]] [[RuthlessModernPirates "Snake Snake"]] to which "Keith" tells her how he grew up in a nearby country torn apart by civil war, but even in a place that claims to be as advanced and civilized, he sees the same problems he saw in his home country: distrust of outsiders, fighting over limited resources, and people hurting others simply because they can get away with it. Essentially, he calls the ''whole city'' out on their behavior, saying that, after the earthquake, it's NotSoDifferent from an ''active war zone.'']]

* ''Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 4 Plus: Summer Memories'' : A Japanese youth takes their first steps into adulthood, venturing into Hisui City to attend a job interview, but their plans are derailed when they get caught in a massive earthquake that fractures the streets and brings their bus trip to a violent stop. After climbing out of the wreckage, they find the once-familiar city in shambles and the citizens scared, confused, and wary of everything and everyone around them. The first step in any disaster is to find safety, but safety appears to be a long way off in this city, especially when it becomes apparent that, between the destroyed infrastructure making relief attempts almost impossible, the city residents' natural distrust of outsiders, and the aftershocks and ground sublimation continuing to make travelling even on foot a major hazard, there's only two people you and your friends can rely on to survive: Yourselves, and each other.
