The few girls who do have longer hair (Aigle, Ms. Spencer) have it either braided or done up so as to keep it out of the way-- a sensible choice for wrestling and grappling.

I know most people who play(ed) RR were wrestling fans, but I know there were a couple that weren't back in the day, so I randomly explained the difference between the atomic and Manhattan drops

* PainToTheAss: The atomic drop and Manhattan drop both exist in this game, and they're moves in which the attacker drives the defender tailbone first onto the attacker's knee. While the move supposedly compresses the spine and hurts the back, the Roses sell it by holding their butts. That being said, the holding-your-butt sell is used for a lot of back based slams and throws, and sometimes just randomly.

The story modes for each wrestler persona are also notable in a B-movie way. But let's go into a little more detail. It's set up more like a FightingGame than a WrestlingGame. Pun Anesthesia, the BigBad of the series, wants to take over the world. She plans to use a wrestling tournament to do it, offering a large cash prize to the winner as an incentive. She plans to take the DNA of the tournament winner to make an unstoppable cyborg army. Each of the girls has their own reason for being involved in the tournament. Reiko Hinomoto is trying to live up to her mother's legacy and search for her lost sister. Aisha is obsessed with a rematch against Dixie Clemets, who she was never able to beat. Makoto Aihara is an Olympic judoka seeking competition. Candy Cane wants the cash prize to save the orphanage she grew up in. Miss Spencer enters the tournament accidentally while trying to chase down a recalcitrant runaway student (Candy Cane). Anyway, at the end of the tournament, the player fights one of Anesthesia's cyborgs, Lady X, and whoever wins goes home happy.

As right now there is one sequel, Rumble Roses XX, which was released in 2006 for the UsefulNotes/Xbox360. It introduced three new modes (Tag Team, Queens Match and Street Fight) as well as a very unelaborate create-a-wrestler feature. It also introduced "Superstar" personas for each character's face and heel modes. Unfortunately, it featured no storyline mode at all, and an incredibly labyrinthine and time-consuming method of unlocking characters and rewards. Additionally, the extras like Queens Mode, Street Fight, the shoddy create-a-wrestler system and the playable bear proved very unpopular overseas. While Rumble Roses is generally considered to be a decent game, Rumble Roses XX was enough of a flop that it seems to have brought the series to an end. The series fell into obscurity with the closest to a revival being Reiko making a playable cameo in Super VideoGame/Bomberman R. Additionally, there's also a Japan-only slot machine game titled Rumble Roses 3D.

okay, I think I got it, if I didn't, take a weedwhacker to it.

Added DiffLines:

* DefeatByModesty: Sort of. There are various moves in the game that cause a "humiliation meter" to rise. The moves that do these are moves that put one or both of the girls in some kind of compromising position. For example, most girls in the game have a backdrop in which they lift the other girl behind the knees so that the audience gets a good look at her crotch before suplexing her, and that move fills the meter fast. Most moves fill the defender's h-meter, although several fill both fighters and a couple fill the attacker's. When a character's humiliation meter is filled, their opponent can then perform a "humiliation finisher", which is invariably a submission hold that puts them in an embarrassing position as well as being painful. H-finishers give the attacker several more seconds to keep the hold applied than even other finishers, and in Rumble Roses are the only way to beat the computer by submission on hard difficulty.

If it fills up all the way, it allows the victim to be put into a humiliation mode, a temporary stun that opens up special finishing moves, and a special victory type. Some maneuvers add to the attacker's meter, or to both, if it puts them in a compromising position. There's a special match type that only allows victory by humiliation.

In 2004, Creator/Konami decided to put a foot in a genre that is rarely touched by video game companies, the wrestling genre (well, at least outside Japan) which in the last years was in the hands of Creator/THQ, the holder of the Wrestling/WWE license. However, to the surprise of many, Konami announced that this game would feature an all female cast (this may have been related to the announcement of Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball around that time). The end result was a big fanservice extravaganza, with 10 ladies (each with her own face and heel persona) wearing quite Stripperiffic revealing outfits, appealing to various fetishes. Aside from these regular in-ring costumes, they would also wear swimsuits for beach-side mud wrestling matches. Fanservice aside, Rumble Roses actually has good gameplay and nice graphics.

The story modes for each wrestler persona are also notable in a B-movie way. But let's go into a little more detail. Aisha is obsessed with a rematch against Dixie Clements, who she was never able to beat.

* PainToTheAss:
** Many Roses have access to the dreaded atomic drop where the attacker drops the opponent on their knee in a seated position. The victim visibly shows discomfort in the area after the landing with a PainPoweredLeap following the victim holding their rear end. In one double X move sequence the victim is atomic dropped by one of her attackers before the followup and again they visibly sell their rump pain.
** Aigle and Great Khan both have a judo attack with two variations each where the opponent is tripped and turned and they fall on their rear end. The victim gets on her side and holds her backside momentarily. One variation includes the attacker holding on their her victim's leg but this variation also shows her victim aching to their aching bottom.
** One brutal looking Double X move that can be initiated depending on the Rose in action involves both Roses on one team lifting their opponent after putting the victim's arm over their shoulders (one side each). Then both aggressors lift the victim by her thighs opening her legs wide and leaving her in a seated position. While in said seated position both aggressors toss the victim into the air in a free fall and she lands seated into the mat with their tailbone taking all the force. The victim is shown holding her aching backside afterwards before laying on the mat.
** All Roses have a "trip" attack where they grab an opponents leg while the aggressor is outside of the ring and the victim inside. The aggressor pulls the victim's leg towards them which causes the victim to lose her footing and fall backwards falling in a seated position into the mat. This doesn't do any damage to the victim but their victim tend to their backside for a rather long time while the aggressor can get into the ring and start attacking their opponent.
** The "limbo" penalties medium and hard can have the loser fall on their rear end while trying to get past. They hold their hurt bottoms afterwards. Interestingly the loser noticeably tends to her hurt butt more when they fail the medium version compared to the hard version.
** Candy Cane's lethal attack in the Playstation 2 is a two stage sequence attack that starts with Candy kicking her opponent right in their rear end between the glutes. The victim noticably bend forward while holding their hurt butt which sets up the second part of the attack sequence for Candy Cane. In the 360 version Candy loses this attack but the Lambda custom character can be given the attack with a specific moveset.
** While Candy lost the attack her "SuperStar" version in the 360 game has Candy with two lethal attacks. The version that doesn't involve her Guitar has Candy after hurricanrana'ing her opponent sees Candy get into a seated position facing her opponent, then grabbing her opponent's butt cheeks one hand each and while holding the area has her force her opponent into a hand standing position. They are kicked in the back not too long after so they don't have long to tend to their rear ends in this sequence.
** Power based fighters gain an attack where they kick the opponent in the midsection so hard they fall on their rear ends due to the impact. As usual for falling on their butts the victim tends to her rear end a bit.
** As part of Candy Cane and Miss Spencer's unique introduction when Candy is getting into the ring Miss Spencer gives Candy a rather stiff slap to her punk butt, visibly making Candy fall into the ring in the process. While Candy doesn't sell any butt pain this could be considered karma for what she has made the butts of her opponents go through.

In particular, Aisha's pants are almost as tight as Noble Rose's leotard.

This is a holdover from early games in the WWF Smackdown series, where submission holds were just a "[=will they tap yes/no?=]" situation instead of having a minigame to escape them. Holds that had been in the Smackdown series longer were less likely to have been updated into actual submission holds.

* AwesomeButImpractical: Most of the girls have highly entertaining and energetic introductions, but some such as all of Becky's would leave her pretty tired 'before' the match starts. Others such as Yasha's literally requires nameless ninja women to die as part of it.
** Averted by all of the Lady X incarnations, they are rather simple, which wouldn't help her human opponents considering how little energy the robot would use compared to a human girl just getting into the ring.

* HumiliationConga: A potential result of losing a queens match, the loser first could be humiliated, then finished with an attack meant to embarrass her until she can't take it anymore. Following this the loser then has to do a task such as clean the pool, apply oil to the winner, or dance. All of these actions also involve the loser wearing what the opponent wants. Some of the girls appear visibly hurt afterwards by this.
