** Witness to the End was born in the Chaos Palace, a vast, labyrinthine complex located in Persia. He became lost in the Palace during the Great Betrayal, nearly going mad until he was
found and inducted into the Syndicate.

** Witness might be dangerously fanatical, but he's not wrong about how the Syndicate members have become distracted from (or bored of) their primary mission, which should be the retrieval and resurrection of their patron gods. It's the only "justification" for twenty-four islands of human torture and sacrifice, and yet the Syndicate have only managed to retrieve ''one'' god, and nowadays seem more concerned with arguing among themselves or idling out their immortal lives. However, it's hinted throughout that [[spoiler:the Syndicate are ultimately moribund: they lack the assault power or personnel to retrieve any more gods from the real world without ''significant'' losses, and they can't even replace fallen members such as their Chief Investigator or Chief Exorcist. No wonder they distract themselves with squabbles and vice]].

* ForbiddenZone: The Dead Zone is a massive concrete sarcophagus considered off-limits to everyone on the Island. It was formerly an apartment block, until Henry Division attempted to commune with a Demon, resulting in his demonic possession during the present. The apartment block was cordoned off and encased in concrete as a result.

* AllForNothing: From Henry's perspective, the investigation is pointless. Henry is a Citizen, so regardless of what happens, he dies with Paradise Island 24. The only thing that will change is whether he dies with the collapse of the island, or being executed from a conviction. [[spoiler:If you prove him completely innocent at trial, he does at least thank Lady Love Dies for standing up for him, noting that it's the first time anyone ever has]].

* INeverSaidItWasPoison: Asking [[spoiler:Yuri or Sam]] about information pertaining to [[spoiler:the Gates that block access to the Council]] have them reveal a tad more than they should know, which can be used to implicate them at the Trial.

* NonIndicativeName: "Paradise" isn't a true paradise, considering that there's demon worship and murder going on.

* ThePowerOfBlood: Blood factors into a lot of day-to-day life for Syndicate members. Access to various parts of the island is restricted based on the individual's blood, and members carry around a vial of their blood in a key-like object to get access. This applies to the case, as access to the main crime scene is restricted to the blood of certain people. Love Dies herself cannot (normally) access the crime scene, as it's the Council penthouse, and only the Council members have access.

* TogetherInDeath: If [[spoiler:either one of the Day Breaks]] is found guilty of a crime, [[spoiler:the other]] will immediately confess to their own, not wanting to spend immortality without them.

* EvilVersusEvil: In fact, in general the conflicts in the game's background are this. On the one hand, demons are (mostly) the chaotic and destructive forces one would expect. On the other, they're attacking an immortal cult of evil genocidal deities who want to slaughter/enslave the world and perform mass HumanSacrifice. [[spoiler:Shinji lampshades this, and at one point it's even a plot point that demons and gods are NotSoDifferent to the point where human technology can't distinguish them biologically.]]
