* AlternateContinuity: Because of [[RunningGag the fate of the Interceptor]] in this game, it neither fits in with ''The Road Warrior'' nor ''Fury Road'', though Gastown is a location here as a nod to ''Fury Road''. That said, apparently Scabrous Scrotus is a son of Immortan Joe, so who knows? Given WordOfGod has said ''Mad Max'' is more a mythology than a single, coherent narrative, it conveniently fits the tone. All that said, [[spoiler: apparently Scrotus kept the Interceptor because it was just that much of a CoolCar]], the voices in Max's head at the end are reminiscent of the ones he got in Fury Road. On top of that, Scrotus himself is nowhere to be seen during the movie, so chronologically it ''might'' take place before Fury Road?

'''Mad Max''' is an upcoming post-apocalyptic action-adventure game with a vehicular combat element, set in an open world environment and based on the Mad Max film series. It is being developed by Creator/AvalancheStudios and published by Creator/WarnerBrosInteractiveEntertainment and is due to be released for PC, XboxOne, and PlayStation4 on September 1, 2015.

The general plot is that Max's beloved V8 Interceptor has been stolen and dismantled by marauders and he ends up working with Chumbucket, a deformed "blackfinger" [[note]]mechanic[[/note]]. Chumbucket sees Max as an Angel sent by the god Combustion to help him complete his car, the Magnum Opus. Max simply sees Chumbucket as a means of getting a replacement vehicle so that he can finally reach an area of the Wasteland called the Plains of Silence and find peace in a world gone mad.

The player takes on the role of titular character, and will feature a variety of weapons which Max can use to defeat his enemies. Though the shotgun is Max's weapon of choice, ammo is scarce, so melee options are the smarter way to go. The 'thunderstick' is an explosive weapon that can be lanced into an enemy's chest, blowing the victim up. The harpoon can be used in-vehicle with Chum riding along. Max's Magnum Opus can be combined with a V12 engine and powerful ramming ability to destroy enemies' vehicles and weaponry. Weapons, such as flamethrowers and a mounted cannon, can also be added to the Magnum Opus.

!!!The game provides examples off:

* AlternateContinuity: Because of [[RunningGag the fate of the Interceptor]] in this game, it neither fits in with ''The Road Warrior'' nor ''Fury Road'', though Gastown is a location here as a nod to ''Fury Road''. That said, apparently Scabrous Scrotus is a son of Immortan Joe, so who knows? Given WordOfGod has said ''Mad Max'' is more a mythology than a single, coherent narrative, it conveniently fits the tone.
* BadassBeard: Max sports one in the game.
* BloodSport: The game allows you to dwell underground and participate in gladiator-style tournaments.
* ContinuityNod: Like all of the ''Mad Max'' films, the game ''sort of'' makes nods at previous stories, such as the War Boys, but they're also not exactly holding continuity.
* CoolCar: The Magnum Opus, due to being completely customizable.
* DogFoodDiet: Dinki-Di dog food returns as a healing item.
* EldritchLocation: The game has a soft border around the world map called the "Big Nothing", a hellish landscape of unending sand and lightning storms. Max can attempt to journey into it to find rare parts for the Magnum Opus, although doing so is a death sentence.
* HandicappedBadass: Max still has his busted knee.
* IdiotSavant: Chumbucket, who happens to be an incredibly skilled mechanic, thus proving himself useful to Max and becoming his "sidekick". He's also capable of handling weapons mounted at the vehicle very well.
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: Scabrous Scrotus. He begins as a normal warlord, but something happens to him that turns him into a bloodthirsty monster that only can find solace from his own pain through the suffering of others.
* LargeAndInCharge: Much like the Lord Humungus, Blaster and Rictus Erectus, Scabrous Scrotus is absolutely huge.
* InNameOnly: The video game adaptation initially dropped the Australian accents and the setting, with the company admitting to treating it as an entirely new story instead of a Mad Max game, resulting in something that appeared as nothing more than a generic post-apocalyptic game rather than anything resembling the Mad Max series. Although a combination of a petition to have Mad Max voiced by an Australian (eventually revealed to be actor/martial artist [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bren_Foster Bren Foster]]), George Miller intervening and setting down some ground rules for creating the Wasteland, and having the KMM production company create all the characters has done a great deal to alleviate the concerns of the fans.
* ProductPlacement: [[Series/PimpMyRide West Coast Customs]] designed many of the car parts in this game.
* ThePromisedLand: Max is trying to make his way to the Plains of Silence when he is accosted by raiders.
* RPGElements: In addition to a fully customizable car, it looks like armour, skills and the shotgun will be upgradeable, with some screenshots showing a shotgun [[MoreDakka with four barrels]].
* TooAwesomeToUse: Like in the second film, ammo for the shotgun will be hard to come by, forcing Max to use melee weapons unless he's in a situation where firearms are the only option.
* XMeetsY: ''Franchise/MadMax'' meets ''Videogame/RedDeadRedemption''.
