''La Pucelle'' (a.k.a. ''La Pucelle: Tactics'') is a TurnBasedStrategy game released on the PlayStation2 by NipponIchi. In Japan, it came out a year before ''VideoGame/DisgaeaHourOfDarkness'', but was released several months after that game in other countries. It is set in the same world as the ''Marl Kingdom'' series, and one of the characters is the grandson of the main character of the first ''Marl Kingdom'' game ( a.k.a. ''RhapsodyAMusicalAdventure''.)

* SameContentDifferentRating: The original game was rated Cero A, but Ragnarok was upped to Cero C. No explanation was given as to why. This is especially strange when you consider that SoulNomad and it's infamous "Demon Path" is rated Cero A...

** EnemyWithout: [[spoiler: In fact, Demon Prier first appears this way, first appearing a little girl trying to encourage Prier to become an Overlord before revealing herself. While she and her friends defeat her, since she's a part of Prier she points out that she'll be back.]]

* FlipFlopOfGod: NipponIchi can't seem to decide if Prier retains her personality from ''La Pucelle'' or desires to turn worlds into [[MemeticMutation seas of blood]] even after the release of ''Ragnarok'', with both personalities showing up in ''VideoGame/{{Disgaea 3|AbsenceOfJustice}}'' and ''VideoGame/{{Disgaea 4|A Promise Unforgotten}}'' (Although her cut scenes start with her SuperPoweredEvilSide being dominant). In fact, ''VideoGame/{{Disgaea 4|A Promise Unforgotten}}'' even gives you the option of switching between both sides when reincarnating her.
** ''[[VideoGame/DisgaeaDimension2 Disgaea D2]]'' seems to have settled things by having ''both'' forms of Prier be playable.

* HeyItsThatVoice: It's easy enough to identify Croix's VA as Creator/QuintonFlynn, but Creator/JenniferHale's performance as Prier stands out when compared to her other roles.

It takes place in the kingdom of Paprica, and tells the tale of a battle between the [[CrystalDragonJesus Maiden of Light]] and the [[DarkMessiah Dark Prince]], favored servant of the {{fallen angel}} Calamity. The [[SaintlyChurch Church of the Holy Maiden]] servants of the Light has employed a group of [[TheHunter demon hunters]] known as "La Pucelle" to help keep the city of Pot au Feu safe from monsters.

The story focuses on three particular members of La Pucelle: the short-tempered and built-like-a-brick-house (and just as subtle) Prier, her younger brother Culotte, and the even-handed and wise Alouette. Prier and Culotte have just graduated to full members of La Pucelle, and Prier has big plans to be the next Maiden of Light.

It is possible to "reverse" the Gates which spawn monsters and enter Hell; or "The Dark World" as the westernization puts it; in itself a direct translation of the word {{Disgaea}} (hint, hint). Hell is a completely randomized dungeon filled to the brim with Demons, Demon Lords and Demon Overlords, stronger than any enemy in the main game.
