* ContextSensitiveButton: The button usually dedicated to [[VideoGameSprinting sprinting]] often changes functionality depending on context: When facing a portable object, the sprint functionality is deprecated by a "pick up" and "throw down" functionality, which is possibly an intentional design choice since this reduced mobility is often exploited in puzzles. The sprint button is replaced by a "plant seeds" when in the vicinity of a crop plot in the Farm gamemode.

* CoupDeGraceCutscene: Some boss battles are concluded through means of an ActionCommand, like the [[spoiler:Bad Omen in World 17, or the Plague Doctor in World 18.]]

* CyberpunkWithAChanceOfRain: At the beginning of World 15, Demon World was laden with floodwaters and rivulets of rainfall from a light, inclement thunderstorm. [[spoiler:Though this would be the least of their troubles to come.]]

* DamagerHealerTank: Co-op Expedition introduces three character classes that are exclusive to the game-mode and are dependent on the hero in question. These are, of course, the '''Dealer''', the '''Tanker''', and the '''Healer''' classes. The first one specializes in dealing a lot of damage in a short amount of time, to many enemies. The second class specializes in [[DrawAggro taunting]] enemies and [[BarrierWarrior projecting shields]] to absorb their attacks and projectiles. And the third class specializes in healing teammates and [[DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist reviving]] them.
* DarkestHour:

* DarkReprise: [[spoiler:In 18-1, the soundtrack of [[Characters/GuardianTalesDarkUniqueHeroes Vinette's]] flashback is a slowed down, distorted version of the theme that plays in the background inside Vinette's Lab.]]
* DashAttack: Some weapons, like [[Characters/GuardianTalesWorld7 Craig's]] EX 'Silence', allow the hero equipping it to use a dashing Weapon Skill. * DoubleEdgedBuff: The "Flower From Hell", an Artifact usable in the now-defunct Kamazone game-mode, can reduce the health of up to four enemies, depending on how many of your party members are left, by 4% every seven seconds. The caveat, however, is that the same deterioration is applied to your team, as well.
** The "Lens of Light and Darkness" works in much the same way, increasing your party's Weapon Skill Regen Speed by 50%, but decreasing their Atk by 20%.

* DragonsAreDemonic: The four Demon Gods can transform into so-called [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "Demonic Dragons."]]

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Whenever you summon a new hero from the game's [[GachaGame gacha]] mechanic, the hero will take care to properly introduce themselves, allowing the player to a brief glimpse at their character beyond what can be inferred from their bio or storylines alone, if they have the latter.

* FireOfComfort: During your adventure through [[TheLostWoods Kanterbury Forest,]] you and some of your comrades can be seen camping by a small bonfire in the woods when you access the lobby.

* FogFeet: Truly dead spirits can be identified by their lack of feet and the presence of a ghostly tail in it's place, as the Knight's journey through the Afterworld shown.

However, the world tree's destruction also deprived much of the world of [[WhiteMagic Holy Magic]], meaning that they could no longer effectively tend to their wounds and heal their infected anymore. Furthermore, the gods and angels that were not aligned with Vellenus, or opposed her, suffered as well.

* InGameNovel: Heavenhold Novels and Expedition Archives novels provide a glimpse into the genuine tales of other characters, lands and times through a Visual Novel-style medium.

* InterchangeableAntimatterKeys: Giant golden keys are often used in stages to unlock {{Locked Door}}s. Hypothetically, they can be used in any given key door, and disappear into the aether upon use. Subverted by keys that are explicitly quest items, stored in the player's inventory (accessible through the Heavenhold menus), which are decidedly ''not'' interchangeable and remain in existence after using them.

* KarmaHoudini: Everywhere! [[Characters/GuardianTalesDarkUniqueHeroes Lupina]] gets little to no retribution for terrorizing the inhabitants of Mt. Shivering for centuries, [[AssholeVictim insufferable though they may be,]] the Rah Empire still sends thousands of Kanterburian refugees to concentration camps since Aisha is still a princess with limited authority, the [[spoiler:sniper in Demon World never received their comeuppance,]] Beth still has freedom despite having engaged in conspiracy to dismantle dozens of nations and destroyed Kanterbury and Adela, [[Characters/GuardianTalesEarthUniqueHeroes Kamael]] still remains as the despicable CEO of Kamazon and still continues to assassinate all of it's enemies, and so on.

* KillerRabbit: Quite common in Ice Mountain. [[TheyLookJustLikeEveryoneElse They are physically indistinguishable from regular rabbits.]]

* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: In 13-4 Nightmare, [[spoiler:an exhausted Lilith Tower maintenance man remarks that the building is supplied electricity by a pair of rooms that have to have symmetric layouts to function, almost like some kind of puzzle game.]]

* MalevolentArchitecture: Given that ''Guardian Tales'' is a game in which progress through the main story is impeded by increasingly circuitous puzzles, it shouldn't come as a surprise that even inside buildings like Magic School or [[spoiler:Lilith Tower]] have these puzzles scattered everywhere, even though in real life, this would be incredibly impractical for pretty much anyone else.
