Blurb Clean Up and Edit

EDF 5 is set in 2022 and is a another reboot of the game franchise story occurring before 2025. The game takes place during the first alien invasion of Earth. Just like in most of the previous titles the game is a casual 3rd person action shooter where the players battle hordes of enemies in various stages with a large and sometimes crazy collection of weapons and equipment.

While the overall game mechanics remain the same several new mechanics including changes to characters have been introduced.

The game has been made bloodier and gorier with the addition of new location damage mechanics for various enemies, new gibbing mechanics, damage textures for enemies, blood splat textures, and even the ability to shoot off limbs of the giant humanoid enemies. Most of the enemies now display a new damage texture depending on where the player shoots them giving an obvious visual cue to damaged or wounded enemies. Living enemies not only spray blood when hit but leave splatters on various surfaces. Enemies suffering sufficient damage can have all or part of themselves blown into a spray of chunks and limb parts. Giant humanoid enemies can have individual limbs blown off by powerful enough weapons leaving them partially crippled on the ground.

There have been changes to the characters as well in both appearance and mechanics while some features have been retained. Overall the four classes in the previous titles have made a return for this title. The game will feature the Ranger, Palewing(In Japan)/Wing Diver, Air Raider, and the Fencer characters.

The Ranger can now call in a limited variety of lower tier vehicle such as more common tanks and helicopters but still retain their usual arsenal. The character also now has a handy sprint ability making those mad dashes easier for players.

Wing Diver is still the energy weapon based glass cannon with the jet pack for mobility but now features an evasion dodge roll maneuver to help them avoid threats similar to how the fencer can dodge with certain weapons equipped. They are now also capable of a sort dashing glide like movement extending their air time. Many of her weapons now require the player to actively charge them drawing energy from her energy pool.

The Air Raider calls in the heavier and advanced vehicles such as mechs, heavy tanks, artillery vehicles and other platforms. They also still direct the various fire support options but for some can now direct the direction of the strike if it has a line attack pattern. They still possess their limpet mine guns. Some of the fire support packages now reload like a normal weapon while others require building up points just like in Earth Defense Force 2025 and Earth Defense Force 4.1.

Fencers are again the heavy weapon tank unit wielding the cannons, Gatling guns, large missile launchers, and giant melee weapons.

The Ranger, Fencer, and Wing Diver all have secondary equipment slots that allow them to equip various items that affect class abilities in various ways or in the case of the Ranger allow them to summon vehicles.

The various classes have at least two different skins. One skin is a full on EDF military themed skin. The other is assorted skins that make them look like volunteers. The Ranger looks like an armed security guard, the Wing Diver has what looks like an old school jet pack, the Fencer is wearing what looks like a construction exo-skeleton, and the air raider almost looks like a technician or a Engineer from VideoGame/TeamFortress. Their EDF counterparts look like they are from a sci-fi military organization.

The various enemies include new giant bipedal enemies wielding a few different varieties of weapons similar to Hectors in previous games, revamps of existing enemies like the dragons, new bosses, and even including some enemies designs and types from earlier titles.

Trailers show what appears to be a progression of visual differences in the classes with each class having a starting appearance and their look changing as they advance through the game. The starting characters all seem to have equipment that looks like it is styled after characters from earlier titles for the Ranger and Wing Diver. The Air Raider appears early on as a technician or mechanic in a jump suit and the Fencer appears to be wearing what looks like a construction exo-skeleton.

Various other additions such as new enemy ships, enemy teleport pillars that are dropped like bombs, and new EDF vehicles also are in the game.

The various classes have at least two different skins. One skin is a full on EDF military themed skin. The other is assorted skins that make them look like volunteers. The Ranger
looks like it is styled after characters from earlier titles for an armed security guard, the Ranger and Wing Diver. The Air Raider appears early on as a technician or mechanic in a jump suit and Diver has what looks like an old school jet pack, the Fencer appears to be is wearing what looks like a construction exo-skeleton.

Various other additions such as new enemy ships, enemy teleport pillars that are dropped

The various enemies include new giant bipedal enemies wielding a few different varieties of weapons similar to Hectors in previous games, revamps of existing enemies like the dragons, new bosses,

The game has been made bloodier and gorier with the addition of new locational damage mechanics for various enemies, new gibbing mechanics, new locational damage and injury decals on enemies, blood splat textures, and even the ability to shoot off limbs of the giant humanoid enemies. Most of the enemies now display a new damage skin depending on where the player shoots them giving an obvious visual cue to damaged or wounded enemies and living enemies not only spray blood when hit but leave splatters on the ground. Enemies suffering sufficient damage can have all or part of themselves blown into a spray of chunks and limb parts. Giant humanoid enemies can have individual limbs blown off by powerful enough weapons leaving them partially crippled on the ground.

EDF 5 is set in 2022 and is a another reboot of the game franchise story occurring before 2025. The game takes place during the first Ravager/Invader invasion of Earth. Just like in most of the previous titles the game is a casual 3rd person action shooter where the players battle hordes of enemies in various stages with the collection of weapons and equipment.

The game re-uses various assets developed for EarthDefenseForce2025 and its update title Earth Defense 4.1 "Shadow of New Despair", but also introduces several new elements to the game.

This is to create the intiall page for the new EDF game EDF 5. The game isn't out yet so there isn't a ton to go off of except for what has been teased in trailers and the few gameplay videos that can be found. The blurb and other entries are quite likely to change once the game is released and/or more information becomes avaliable.

Players will recognize various enemies seen in the titles just prior to this game such as ants, spiders, and even the massive Kaiju style enemy Erginus. New enemies have been added such as giant frogs with guns tentatively called "Colonists", giant armored gun wielding infantry that look like the "Greys" type aliens tentatively called "Cosmonauts", new Kaiju style monsters, new bugs, and even some enemies from older titles such as the flying saucer ships.

While the overall game mechanics remain the same several new mechanics including changes to characters have been introduced.

%%Current information in the blurb and the tropes is based on trailers, game play demos, and information from the developer to the public. Since this is not yet a released title any and all of the information on this page is subject to change once the game is publicly released. Please keep that in mind when making your edits or searching for an image for the page.
!! This game provides examples of the following tropes.
* ActionGirl: The Wing Divers are back with their jet packs and energy weapons to devastate the enemy.
* AlienInvasion: The invasion that occurred before 2025 and got the EDF off the ground as the global defense force against the invaders hordes.
* BFG:
**Players will again wield a wide variety of large caliber and large barreled weapons to fight the alien threat from Cannons wielded by the fencer, grenade launchers of the Ranger, plasma cannon weapons of Wing Divers, and the Limpet Mine guns of the Air Raider.
** The new giant bipedal enemies wield large heavy weapons that look like some sort of heavy weapon.
** Player controlled mechs wield large cannons as individual weapon mounts.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: The giant mutant bugs are back with the usual array of ants and spiders but also now includes pill bugs.
* FlyingSaucer: Actual flying saucer design ships make an appearance as both smaller attack craft but also as giant hovering mother ship.
