* CityGuards: Usually signified by carrying spears.

** Buyon is an enemy that Goku defeated in the Red Ribbon saga, his successor is much stronger than Tao pai pai X. (Buyon on normal difficulty is thought for level 38, while Tao on hard difficulty is thought for level 30)

* OverworldNotToScale: As is normal in RPGs, most houses are much smaller than what they are supposed to be, as are distances between cities.

* TookALevelInBadass: Beyond the gameplay statistics, the player character has become stronger as the game progresses.
** In the three "Time lap quests" , the player characters has to defeat enemies that Goku could defeat at the beginning of the series. (With the only exception of Ox-satan)
** In the "Time Machine Quests", the player characters face the villains of the saga saiyan and Namek sagas.

* PettingZooPeople: The animal men who faded from prominence as the manga went on are back in force, making up about a fourth of the friendly NPC's and some serving as enemies.

* AdaptationalBadass: In the anime and manga, Humans and Namekians were basically ants compared to the galaxy destroying foes in the series. Here, Humans and Namekians are just as powerful as Majins, and Humans can go Super Saiyan (through a combination of latent Saiyan DNA, and a wish on Shenron).

* UnitsNotToScale: Averted with normal sized units, for example Vegeta despite being a boss is as small as one would expect. But played straight with But played straight with giant units, for example, Oozarus and giant namekians usually measure just over 6 meters tall, when in the anime they were much larger than that.

Two conflicts fuel the story. The first is with an organization known as the Red Pants army, which seems to be a recreation of the Red Ribbon Army, and the second is a mysterious force known only as the Timebreakers. The Timebreakers' motives are attempting to go back through the history of the Earth and alter all of the major events involving Goku, with the goal of either brainwashing him or stealing his DNA.

The Timebreakers' meddling with time has caused a number of time leaks to open up all over the planet Earth. The character you play as is from an unknown Age that was unwillingly pulled into one of these time leaks and ends up in the Age 761 at the Kame House where you witness an encounter between Trunks and the Timebreakers. Trunks then takes you to the Age 1000 where you and he together try to preserve the Earth's history either by way of going through the time leaks or with the use of his Time Machine.

* AcrophobicBird: Unaided flight can be obtained as early as level 10 but player characters can never initiate flight during combat and will drop to the ground when attacked. This included engagements with flying enemies.

* AirBorneMook: Saibaman variants with fly like bodies, mechanical eyes deployed by the Red Pants Army and Cell-X eggs.

** BribingYourWayToVictory: One of the best examples was the "Super Saiyan potion" which instantly transformed your character into a Super Saiyan that was vastly superior to the regular Super Saiyan form available to players. It was only available, if real money was spent to buy it in the cash shop.

* AlternateTimeline: The first timeline in which Goku died due to a virus attacking his heart, leading to Androids killing most of his friends, and a second timeline caused by Bulma's time machine, which those events are prevented from happening, and a third timeline, where Cell steals the time machine used by Trunks. The theme of ''Dragon Ball Online'' is that the nature of time travel has changed, preventing these, but not before a seemingly infinite amount of timelines had been created(previously, only 12 were confirmed)

* AndYourRewardIsClothes: The quests will typically give you equipment, which consists of you guessed it.

* BadFuture: The age 2000 in which Miira reigns
* BadPresent: The age 1000 to Trunks, where factions such as The Red Pants Army and Naraka's Evil Namekians are trying to {{take over the world}}.

* BizarreSexualDimorphism: Male majins are primordial blobs. Female majins are primordial blobs [[GreenSkinnedSpaceBabe shaped like attractive humanoids]]. {{Justified}} because Buu created the first, [[MeaningfulName Buuby]], based on a character from a pornographic novel in-universe.

* BlueBoyPinkGirl: {{Inverted|trope}} with Majin Buu and Buuby. [[spoiler: Also inverted with Dabura and Towa.]]
* BrainWashing: The Time Breakers brainwashed Freeza's elite soldiers in the age 2000, including the supposed to be deceased Zarban and Dodoria. They've also done so to Bardock, The Ginyu Force and Gohan.

* CasualTimeTravel: Provided you come across a time leak, you can easily go to the past and back to the future/present. Returning to the past afterwards is more difficult, as the leaks tend to patch up.

* CutscenePowerToTheMax: In the cutscenes, Miira is stronger than Trunks in his base form. In the gameplay, he's only a little bit stronger than Nappa.

* DegradedBoss: In the first three "Time Machine quests", the android 8000 appears as a boss or a mini-boss. Later in the game, they appear as regular enemies.
* DummiedOut: There's evidence of a [[UnevenHybrid Saiyan/Human Hybrid]] Mechanic class in-game, along with Mech Maniac and Gun Maniac sub-classes, but as the data was far from the complete, and Netmarble ceased work on the game, its unlikely they'll come to fruition even in the FanRemake.

** Also Full Blooded Humans, and Full Blooded saiyans who would not be playable at any point. Though some fullblooded saiyans like Bardock played a large role in the plot.

* EarthShatteringKaboom: New Namek and Yardrat were destroyed by Miira before the events of the game, which is why the inhabitants are now on Earth. Planet Burst is also a usable attack by the Pure Majin sub-class, although it doesn't actually destroy the world anymore.
* EliteMook: Super mobs, They are stronger than the Average Mob, but a solitary player of same level could beat them without many difficulties. (Unless they are accompanied by two normal mobs, which is usually very common)

* ExplosiveBreeder: The head director clarifies that humans in the future are actually saiyan hybrids due to directly descending from Goku and Vegeta. As only roughly 200 years have passed, they must've been [[ReallyGetsAround really getting around]]... Also Majin Buu, but that's not surprising considering he's magical. On the other hand, all the player characters are time displaced, so it's not the only interpretation.

* FishOutOfTemporalWater: You, the "hero" of the game, start as a child displaced from an unknown period in time. The chief villains are from "the future".

* FreeRangeChildren: Your character starts out as a kid without so much as a send-off.
* TheFuture: The main time period of the game is set 200 years after the end of the final Dragon Ball volume when Goku started training Uub.

** Similar with the saiyan hybrid characters who typically look like Goku.
* GiantEnemyCrab: Which seem to be Saibaman variants of the age 1000.

* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Bardock's not much of a hero but he uses the self explosion technique on Miira after shaking off the Time Breaker brainwashing.]]

* HumansAreWarriors: Oh, ''hell'' to the yes. Aside from being in no small part thanks to Gohan's publishings as well as Krillin and Tien reinvigorating Martial Arts practices, Goku and Vegeta's bloodlines have spanned ''very'' far. Add in that one wish to Shenron can ignite the dormant Super Saiyan spark, and you have a race of Earthlings you do ''not'' want to screw around with.
* InThePastEveryoneWillBeFamous: Understandably, considering that you bump into characters from the series. Otherwise downplayed, as the main characters of the original comic are nowhere near as famous as Majin Buu and Mr. "Hercule" Satan. Piccolo and Dende are famous among Nameks.
* KamehameHadouken: Several variations of the TropeNamer exist for human characters, and one exists for majin characters.
* KiAttack: Duh. It's Manga/DragonBall. Spiritualists are the most frequent abusers, especially at lower levels.
* KidFromTheFuture: Time Patrol Trunks and the player character should he stumble through a leak.

* MisplacedRetribution: The Time Breakers, especially Miira, have a strange obsession with Goku [[spoiler: even though he was neither the strongest of Earth's warriors at the time ''Dragon Ball Online'' was released nor was he directly responsible for Dabura's death.]]
* MisterSandmanSequence: When passing through time leaks, the camera will usually pan around a landmark such as Fry-pan Mountain that will let you know where and when you are.

* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Some manga characters are confirmed to be still alive, for example: Piccolo Junior, Roshi, Moori, Tao Pai Pai, Korin, Dende and Monster Carrot.

* RubberBandHistory: Granted, the player characters usually have something to do with history snapping back after it is altered, and [[PlayingWithAtrope somewhat subverted]] as it's not ''our'' history.

* ShapeShifting: The time breaker demon Churai changes her shape to infiltrate and takeover the Red Pants army.

** Type 5: The Player character in "Time Machine Quests" 5-7 [[note]]Player characters create parties to face enemies like Dodoria, Zarbon, Recoome Jeice and Ginyu.[[/note]], Stronger Mobs (As Cell Jrs), Trunks, Miira and Towa.

* SpaceCompression: As a point of comparison, in the anime and manga the distance between the korin tower and the Red Ribbon Army Headquarters is 2,300 km . In the game map the distance is only of 2 km.

* TheBattleDidntCount: The time patrollers actually can't beat Raditz, just distract him for a while.
* TimelineAlteringMacGuffin: The [[BigBad Big Bads]] recruit past villains and give them upgrades.

* TimeMaster: [[spoiler:Miira and Towa]] are masters of time.

* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: Due to the nature of time travel being changed, it's possible for the antagonists to make a mess of the timeline as they search for the genetic material of strong fighters. Luckily Trunks had already formed a Time Patrol to prevent the previous "[[AlternateTimeline problems]]" time travel caused.

* WaybackTrip: Time leaks will often contain things not present in the original Dragon Ball events, like hostile giant lizards. In this case, it's safe to assume they ''did'' get there due to time travel, much like the player character, but its doubtful the Time Breakers caused such changes on purpose.

* HeroUnit: The game has "Hero" units with the distinction that they are enemies, they are stronger than other bosses.

* StatuesqueStunner: Female majins. They are taller than most humans and their highest versions (Mighty Majin) are as tall as Namekian warrior.
