A TurnBasedStrategy game that is infamous for being as hard as ''VideoGame/DwarfFortress'', this game shows just how hard it is to run a chapter properly. From being forced to maintain your own ships, to amassing your own resources, training and other necessities, it often seems as if your chapter lurches from one extreme to the other, and your death is inevitable. Additionally, the game itself is constructed in a very similar way to ''VideoGame/MasterofOrion'', including the fleet space traveling part.

%%* NintendoHard* NintendoHard: Remember how awesome the 40k universe is in other works? Now imagine yourself having to be in charge of the logistics of that place. Every casualty takes forever to replenish. Every space ship costing a fortune to build but is easily lost in battle. InterserviceRivalry with other imperial factions. The Inquisition breathing down your neck and declaring you a traitor for chatting with a xeno. The Orks snowballing to a ridiculous proportion because they can [[RealityWarper make space ships out of anything]]. The Tyranids consuming entire systems and spawning multiple hive fleets. A random world turning out to be a [[TheDreaded Necron]] world and dooming the entire sector. Needless to say, there are plenty of ways for your chapter to bite the dust.

* TheCorruption: the biggest problem with Chaos, which makes it worse than Orks or Tyranids, is that they always corrupt planets they're on, along with nearby systems. And rooting out such corruption is long, difficult, and is nearly always abandoned partway through because something more dire has made an appearance.

''Chapter Master'' is a fan-made ''TabletopGame/Warhammer40K'' game where you take the role of a newly minted Chapter Master of a SpaceMarine Chapter. The sector to which you are assigned has desperate need of a Space Marine presence, as the sector is overrun with all sorts of evil and foul creatures.

You can start with a BB.

* AwesomeYetImpractical: The Battle Barge. Of all the ships that are to your disposition, it has the highest firepower, shield and hit points. Not to mention the fact that it has even greater number of Thunderhawks inside of it and can carry a whole Space Marine Company and its equipment. The kicker? It costs enormous amounts of requisition. By the time the player gets enough of it to buy one, half of the sector will be mutilated by xenos and heretics.
** Taken UpToEleven by the Slaughtersong-class battleship. It is randomly found when exploring ancient ruins and it requires 10k(!) requisition, all your Tech Marines and several months to restore.

*** Crusades to other sectors. Experienced players will always tell you to send just one company (usually the underleveled one). The situation is the same as with Space Hulks. The less marines you send, the less severe the casualties are.

* {{Game Breaker}}: Some combination of traits and wargear can go into this territory when you arm a highly experienced marine with them.
** Taking the Melee Enthusiasts, Bolter Drill, Slow and Purposeful, and finally the Ambushers traits makes Space Marines truly terrifying when raiding.
*** Another one is to take the Lightning Warriors trait over either the Slow and Purposeful or Ambushers trait. On one hand [[{{Glass Cannon}} you get a boost to damage at the price of having your resistance lowered]]. On the other hand your marines will be dealing colossal damage.
**** The Terminator Armor + Iron Halo + Storm Shield/Storm Bolter + Thunder Hammer combo turns your marine into a {{Nigh Invulnerable}} {{Mighty Glacier}}. Combined with the first set of above traits makes these warriors a force to be reckoned.
***** Artificer Armor + Iron Halo + Jump Pack/Bike + Storm Shield/Plasma Pistol + Thunder Hammer is also a viably deadly combo.
****** Certain Artefacts you get your hand on are greatly more powerful than normal weapons and wargear you use. Even more so with Daemonic Artefacts.

* DemonicInvaders: Chaos has this ultimate goal.
* DemonicSpiders: Chaos Daemons on Daemon Worlds. Taken straight with Necrons if you fail to blow up a still dormant Tomb World.
** Chaos Fleets. Especially if they warped out of nowhere and go straight for the nearest strategically vital planet n the sector...or your homeworld if you have one.
** Tyranid Fleets. Just Tyranid Fleets.
*** With the recent patches Necrons [[OhCrap gain their own fleets now]].
** An Ork Waaaagh! arriving into the sector is nothing to scoff at either. While they are not as bad as the tyranids, they still start out by rushing an entire cluster of stars with tens of battleships.
