There are fields in the other directions too, but they're more likely to be corn or soybeans. For that matter, the city limits of Kansas City itself include considerable farmland, especially north of the (Missouri) River.

None of this changes the fact that KC sits in the middle of FlyoverCountry. Hundreds of miles of wheatfields in all directions.
