** A hilarious variation. Creator/HughJackman's ''sister'' visited the set one day. As a joke, she was made up like Wolverine and walked around the set in costume. She even shot some scenes. Creator/BryanSinger didn't realise the difference at first, merely wondering why Hugh was acting so strangely that day.

** The Danger Room was going to feature in the film. When Scott, Jean and Storm are away, Wolverine would take some of the students for a workout in the room. A sneak peak of how it would look was even in the teaser trailer. But the budget got cut down, and the scene had to be scrapped.

** Creator/NeilPatrickHarris and Creator/EthanEmbry were was considered for the part of [[ComicBook/{{Nightcrawler}} Kurt Wagner]] before Creator/AlanCumming was cast.

* CreatorBreakdown: Alan Cumming had a miserable time on the set, describing it as "dangerous" and "abusive" due to Bryan Singer's drug problems and hostile behaviour. The studio failed to intervene and he ended up gaining a lot of weight due to binge eating and drinking whenever he got home because of how upset he was. This was the reason he didn't return for ''Film/XMenTheLastStand''.

** Creator/BryanSinger only had Creator/BrianCox in mind for Col. Stryker, having been a fan of the actor ever since he saw him in ''Film/{{Manhunter}}''.
** Creator/AlanCumming was always Singer's first choice for Nightcrawler, but he initially couldn't accept due to a scheduling conflict. The film spent so long in development that he became available.

** One ''TIME'' magazine profile of Creator/AlanCumming described him as playing a "mutant villain". As in, Nightcrawler. Granted, it's an easy mistake to make if you only read the Wiki/{{Wikipedia}} article on the movie, in which the first sentence of the plot summary reads, "Nightcrawler, a teleporting mutant, attempts to assassinate the President of the United States," and (as of this writing) doesn't actually explain that he was BrainwashedAndCrazy even if you read on from there. Perhaps they should have bypassed the question of which side he was on and just pointed out that he spent up to nine hours getting the makeup put on him, which would be the only interesting part to someone who hadn't seen the movie anyway.

* TheOtherDarrin: Creator/AaronStanford, Kea Wong and Katie Stuart replaced Alex Burton, Katrina Florence and Sumela Kay as Pyro, Jubilee and Shadowcat respectively.

** Early on in the film's production, Creator/ShaquilleONeal lobbied to play the part of Comicbook/{{Bishop}}. Due to Creator/DavidHayter not having any familiarity with the character, Shaq didn't get the part. The character would later debut in ''Days of Future Past'', played by Creator/OmarSy.

* DeletedScene:
** One early scene has Jubilee wandering off at the museum, looking at an exhibit on evolution and suffering a painful spasm, which two elderly people witness.
** A major one has part of Jason Stryker's headgames, with him pretending to free the Professor, who then frees Cyclops, with the two escaping in a helicopter to the school, utterly confused as to where everyone went. The Professor goes to check on Cerebro, while "Scott" vanishes, his part in the illusion over. This led directly into the scene where the Professor finds Jason's little girl avatar, explaining what he was doing there. It was removed because test audiences didn't get what was going on.
** There was an extended scene that doesn't appear in the final film, nor as a deleted scene on the DVD that features Cyclops' fight with Yuriko, where he picks up and fights with the two prison guards' plastic nightsticks.
** A scene on the X-Jet where Jean uses her telekinesis to pilot the jet, but she loses control and Storm snaps her out of it.
** A scene involving Rogue helping some students escape during Stryker's attack on the mansion.
** A scene between Bobby, Rogue and John in the woods.
** Trapped in Jason's illusion Professor X and Cyclops wander an empty mansion looking for students.

* ActorInspiredElement: Both Creator/IanMcKellen (who is gay) and Creator/BryanSinger (bisexual) worked with the screenwriters to make the scene in which Bobby Drake tells his parents he is a mutant, to look more like a common gay "coming-out" scene.

** Late in production, producer Tom [=DeSanto=] grew very concerned about how increasingly erratic Singer had become on set. When he came to the set one day and found the director, along with several crew members, apparently under the heavy influence of narcotics, he tried to stop production shut down out of fear someone could get hurt. This resulted in a long, loud argument between the two of them that threatened many times to get physical.
** And indeed someone did get hurt. The scene being shot was set on the X Jet, near the end of the movie, with all the main castmembers except Creator/IanMcKellen on set. Singer decided to skip ahead to a scene scheduled for the following day that required a stunt from Creator/HughJackman. Because it wasn't supposed to have been filmed that day, the stunt coordinator was not on set and Jackman was injured and left bleeding. Ralph Winter then ordered production shut down, which led the studio to overrule him and summon [=DeSanto=] back to LA.
** The cast responded by confronting Singer in his trailer, all of them still in costume, and threaten to quit if [=DeSanto=] left. This was Creator/HalleBerry reportedly told Singer to "kiss my black ass" a story often repeated but given different contexts; Singer has through his reps denied any of this.

* TroubledProduction: Shooting wasn't nearly as troubled as the first film, with the only major problems coming, once again, from Creator/BryanSinger often being intoxicated and belligerant on the set. He got into a fight with producer Tom [=DeSanto=] that shut down production. Sources who were present say [=DeSanto=] attempted to halt shooting when he learned that Singer was incapacitated after taking a narcotic. Singer went ahead with a botched stunt that left Creator/HughJackman bleeding on camera (no stunt coordinator was present because the scene was supposed to be shot the following day). Production was halted, but the next day, the studio appeared to side with Singer and told [=DeSanto=] to return to Los Angeles. That prompted the main castmembers — all dressed in their full costumes — to converge in Singer's trailer and confront him, threatening to quit if [=DeSanto=] left. Things got so heated that Creator/HalleBerry allegedly told Singer "You can kiss my black ass".
