* Blooper: When Small Mario turns around while riding Yoshi, a single orange pixel appears between his arm and mustache. This wouldn't be too unusual, but the pixel happens to be the same exact shade of orange that's used on a sprite sheet found on The Spriter's Resource.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** One of the more criticized aspects in reviews that came out prior to the public release was the nine day time limit for unlocking new building material sets. Having heard this, Nintendo released a patch on launch day that caused tool packs to unlock early after placing around 500 objects in the Maker after triggering the "delivery notice" and using all available object types, which could greatly decrease the time to unlock everything to only a few hours.
** Many early reviews also criticized the lack of mid-level checkpoints and "tiered" Power Ups (e.g. a ? block that spawns a Mushroom for small Mario and a Fire Flower for Super Mario). Both of these were added into the game in the November 4, 2015 update.
** Fans were unhappy the underwater softlock GameBreakingBug was ignored for so long, but the December 2015 update fixed it.
** After nearly a year of fans complaining, Nintendo finally released an update that allowed you to comment on a level on the Level Cleared screen without automatically starring it.

** The initial version of the game included references to unused Mystery Mushroom costumes: Baby Mario, VideoGame/BalloonFight, E. Gadd, a Golden Retriever, Super Mario Bros. 2 Mario, Mary O the manual guide, Mr. Saturn, a Muncher, Nabbit, the pink rabbit from Nintendo Badge Arcade, Popo, VideoGame/Tetris, and, apparently, the UsefulNotes/MicrosoftWindows logo. These references were removed from v1.01 onward (though some characters' sound effects exist unused). Some of these were later re-added into the game as full fledged Mystery Mushroom costumes, making them no longer unused. While the 3DS version removed the Costume Mario powerup, the only remains are unused costumes of Roy, Ryu, and VideoGame/Rayman.

** Sprites for Mario labeled "hipdrop" and "wall_kick" exist in the game's code for both the [=SMB3=] and [=SMW=] styles, which implies that ground-pounds and wall kicks weren't originally exclusive to the [=NSMBU=] style. In fact, editing either style's control files to allow ground-pounding will use the sprites when said action is preformed! The same isn't true for wall kicks, however.
