* HostilityOnTheSet: Following Justin Roiland's firing in 2023, sources close to the show [[https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-features/justin-roiland-animation-empire-implosion-rick-and-morty-1235319366/ told]] ''The Hollywood Reporter'' that Roiland's relationships with co-creator Dan Harmon and the writers had been fraught behind the scenes going back to Season 2. It reportedly got to the point that, by time of his firing, Roiland had not been on speaking terms with Harmon and members of the writing staff hadn't interacted with him, even over Zoom, in years.

* TroubledProduction: After Justin Roiland was let go from the show due to being charged with battery and false imprisonment, it was revealed that the production of the show became extremely strained. Roiland would apparently rarely come into the office, and when he did he'd spend most of his time goofing off in his office playing with his various toys. Some AS executives didn't like this version of Morty, so Harmon and Roiland completely rewrote his character into the current Morty, who's not afraid to stand up to Rick if the need arises.

* IKnewIt: From as far back as Season 1, a very large portion of the fandom speculated that the main Rick of the show is not originally from the same dimension as the series' main Morty, and Season 3's "The Rickshank Redemption" further hinted this via Rick's questionably-fabricated backstory.
