** The ''Utahraptor'' in ''Age of Giants'' are meant to be an undiscovered European species, and were always intended as such.

** In relation to the above mentioned instances where writer!Drew himself engaged in this trope, Nathanoraptor was both just as relieved as Drew that the originally planned sexual assault laden first meeting between Cynthia and Drew never made it into the final product, and has also come to thoroughly regret including Kyle's sarcastic "I've just had to round up a herd of giant reptiles. Black rage doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling at the moment," line in light of recent BlackLivesMatter related events. Not even his changing the line to being sarcastic when it was initially planned to be shouted was enough to prevent Nathanoraptor from regretting ever including the line at all.

** In contrast, a lot of the stuff that Nathanoraptor and the readers consider the best and worst parts of the story [[MagnumOpusDissonance appear to have their positions reversed in the eyes of writer!Drew]]. While Nathanoraptor dislikes the majority of Phase 1 and feels very pleased with Phases 2 and 3 for the reasons described above, writer!Drew considers Phase 1 to be the only good season of the entire story due to Phase 1 adhering the closest to his own personal vision for the story and feels that Phases 2 and 3 were where the story [[SeasonalRot only got worse and worse]] due to it becoming (in his eyes) more of a generic drama set in a zoo rather than the Animal Planet style 'behind-the-scenes-at-a-zoo' documentary he initially planned for it to be. Writer!Drew also came to seemingly be rather annoyed with all the planned prominent characters that weren't PE!Drew and Cynthia due to how he personally viewed them as 'just side characters to PE!Drew's story' instead of the ensemble of equal importance that Nathanoraptor had explicitly planned for them to be, and didn't like how they (in his eyes) [[SpotlightStealingSquad seemed to be getting all the focus given to them by Nathanoraptor]] [[DemotedToExtra and leaving PE!Drew reduced to being a background player in what was technically supposed to be his own story]]. Leon and Jack in particular were two of the 'side characters' that he became especially annoyed by due to their popularity amongst the readers [[EnsembleDarkHorse unexpectedly managing to thoroughly eclipse that of PE!Drew]] (to the point that it was theorized, and later blatantly admitted, that his introducing Cynthia was a deliberate attempt at forcing the spotlight back on PE!Drew). And finally, he came to also grow immensely disappointed in how Cynthia turned out to be in the final product once the story was over and [[NeverMyFault blame Nathanoraptor for everything wrong with the story]] due to how Nathanoraptor had, in his own words, kept forcing focus away from Cynthia and PE!Drew in favor of the [[YouKeepUsingThatWord 'side characters']] and denying the two 'main stars' the chance at proper CharacterDevelopment despite Nathanoraptor [[MyRealDaddy arguably having managed to save the story and make it truly enjoyable to the readers]].

* AccidentallyCorrectZoology: When Sharptooth was created and included in this story, his size was noticeably larger and heavier than any previously discovered t-rex in real-life, a fact that Leon himself handwaved. But then there came the discovery of just how big 'Scotty' (a famously large t-rex skeleton discover and on display in Canada), and Sharptooth's size is actually surprisingly appropriate.

** Ultimately the two authors ended up on such divergent sides of where they wanted the story to go[[note]]with writer!Drew wanting it to focus more on exclusively the adventures in the past and difficulty in caring for the animals similarly to an Animal Planet BTS-at-a-zoo show and also focusing primarily on PE!Drew (and later Cynthia as well) then on any of the 'side characters' and Nathanoraptor wanting it to be more of a character driven drama with elements of Drew's vision that had more of an ensemble style focus on the cast and also simultaneously deconstructed and satirized various conventions of Prehistoric Park fanfiction stories[[/note]] that Drew eventually StoppedCaring and [[CreatorsApathy let Nathanoraptor do most of the heavy lifting]].

** Ultimately the two authors ended up on such divergent sides of where they wanted the story to go[[note]]with writer!Drew wanting it to focus more on exclusively the adventures in the past and difficulty in caring for the animals similarly to an Animal Planet BTS-at-a-zoo show and also focusing primarily on PE!Drew (and later Cynthia as well) then on any of the 'side characters' and Nathanoraptor wanting it to be more of a character driven drama with elements of Drew's vision that had more of an ensemble style focus on the cast[[/note]] that Drew eventually StoppedCaring and [[CreatorsApathy let Nathanoraptor do most of the heavy lifting]].

* OldShame: Due to just how much the story derailed from his original vision, plus how much the fans/readers seemed to have a much higher preference for Nathanoraptor's plans for the story instead of his own, writer!Drew has since expressed a desire to get his own part in the 4th anniversary retrospective finished and his feelings on what happened behind the scenes as swiftly as possible so that he can move immediately back on to work on Dinosaur King Retold and forget ever being involved with this story at all.

* ContractualObligationProject: Nathanoraptor, shortly after the story ended, theorised that this might have been the case for his co-author Drew Luczynski. Despite initial reservations about posting the Walking With/Prehistoric Park mashup he'd imagined, he decided to do so after demand from readers who'd heard about the story. However, in early 2017, he started to increasingly lose interest in the story due to the fact that he'd had the opportunity to start writing his personal passion project (the separate fanfic Dinosaur King Retold) and felt held back by Prehistoric Earth, which he'd never really been interested in. That being said, he has expressed happiness with how the story turned out and is grateful to Nathanoraptor for keeping the story going.

** As stated above, Nathanoraptor considers ''The New Rulers'' and ''Life and Death Promised'' to be his least favorite chapters of all time. In the case of the former, it's because of how Cynthia's introduction caused too many subsequent problems as well as exacerbated problems that were already present prior to her introduction. And in the case of the latter, it's a mixture of the 'episode's' structure not quite working all that well in his eyes, some of the jokes (one of which he himself wrote) being rather embarrassing attempts at comedy, the meta subplot about the park staff 'discussing future plotlines' feeling more irritating than humorous, it proved a rather unsatisfactory resolution to Leon and Jack's arc together involving their past antagonism and later ending up working to get out of suspension from active rescue mission work, and the staff meeting (despite including a few funny lines) not really adding anything to the story apart from a few details that readers would have potentially already guessed and a single plot point that ended up getting anticlimactically resolved at the very end of the 'episode'. He was also not a big fan of the plot point of Leon sneaking through the portal to accompany PE!Drew and Jack on unauthorized leave.

Nathanoraptor has revealed that Drew would often have difficulty keeping track of the characters - for example, on two separate occasions, he had Khatin doing a check-up on an injured animal because he had legitimately thought that Khatin was one of the vets. The fact that he's since been revealed to have largely viewed the intended ensemble cast as 'merely side characters to Cynthia and PE!Drew's story' doesn't help.

In particular, he has expressed displeasure with how his adding in Will and Matt at the moment they made their introduction prevented him from including scenes and events that would have [[CharacterShilling supposedly]] allowed Cynthia's character to be developed better. He also wasn't pleased with how Nathanoraptor altered Spiny the dimetrodon, as Drew had been hoping for this story to be an opportunity to promote a separate fic. The fact that he'd also [[HoistByHisOwnPetard vetoed an idea]] from Nathanoraptor involving Spiny that could have easily allowed for more appearances from him despite writer!Drew's initial plans for the character now being obviated probably couldn't have helped his mood at the time either. On a less bleak note though, despite it being his own idea, [[EveryoneHasStandards he was just as relieved as Nathanoraptor was]] that his original plans for PE!Drew to unwillingly [[MarshmallowHell get his head shoved between Cynthia's breasts]] ([[WithFriendsLikeThese and by Cynthia herself no less!]]) didn't make it in after both the beginning of the #MeToo movement and the revelation of Harvey Weinstein's history of sexual predation [[DistancedFromCurrentEvents came about the same year in which Cynthia was introduced in the story]].
** For his part, Nathanoraptor himself has stated that he is not a big fan of Cynthia. However, despite what some say, he doesn't hate the character; his annoyance was with Drew trying to push her as the #2 main character of the story. And on the subject of Spiny the dimetrodon, he has also admitted to really disliking the version of Spiny, Lubbock, and Howler's misadventure that appeared in the final product due to writer!Drew vetoing the version Nathanoraptor himself had wanted (and considered to be much better) without explanation.

** Writer!Drew had this opinion about Leon, admitting to uncertainty as to why; and he also later clarified that he didn't actually hate Leon - simply he was angry at how the readership [[EnsembleDarkHorse became obsessed with the character]]. Some have speculated that Drew's disgruntlement with Leon was why Cynthia was introduced. While he enjoyed writing for Jack, writer!Drew was uneasy in the character's ability to carry a story on his own (and also Leon's) and had to be convinced by Nathanoraptor to give him a bigger role in Phase Two.

As he himself explains, the introduction of Cynthia was, in his eyes, merely the straw that broke the camel's back and only [[FromBadToWorse exacerbated]] problems he was already having with the chapters due to [[RandomEventsPlot a lack of a clear underlying arc to these chapters' events]] due to the animals being rescued in those missions [[CripplingOverspecialization being either aquatic]] or [[ContrivedCoincidence largely confined to within a fairly short distance from each other]], [[SerendipityWritesThePlot being forced by resulting necessity]] to rely on the character interactions and set up of some of their later important arcs in place of the missing underlying arc for the sake of transitions, and [[CreativeDifferences disagreements with Drew over how best to handle Jack (and also, to a more minor extent, Leon), among other characters.]]

For judging by recently revealed information from a retrospective on the story released by Nathanoraptor, it almost seems as if Cynthia and PE!Drew were the only characters intended to serve prominent roles that he ''DIDN'T'' view as this in some capacity or other:
*** Adrian: While he didn't necessarily hate him, and actually once said that he considered him one of his top 5 characters in the story, he nonetheless agreed with Nathanoraptor that he wasn't as interesting compared to Jack and was equally complicit alongside Nathanoraptor in letting him get put OutOfFocus.
*** Leon: Once stated that he didn't like Leon very much (though also admitting to uncertainty as to why; and he also later clarified that he didn't actually hate Leon), later got revealed to have been considering having Leon's important arc of training the allosaurus squad be viewed through the eyes of PE!Drew instead of allowing it to adequately unfold with the focus on Leon himself, and even reportedly planned to transfer Leon's 'resident animal expert' traits to PE!Drew for the sake of reducing and downplaying Leon's prominence and relevance in order to potentially phase him out altogether. In fact, he reportedly had such low faith in Leon's ability to carry a story on his own (and also Jack's) that said low faith proved a strong contributing factor in writer!Drew's plans to try to have Cynthia supplant him and Jack in the {{Deuteragonist}} role. And furthermore, one activity that could have been arguably appropriate (and made more sense) for Leon himself to do as a result of being the rescue team's resident animal expert ended up being performed by PE!Drew as a result of writer!Drew deciding to shove PE!Drew into uncharacteristically doing this activity instead. And that's without considering how he also had Cynthia very noticeably [[AuthorAvatar take potshots at Leon's plans for training the allosaurus and dismissing him and the idea as lost causes before he'd even had the chance to start them]].
*** Jack: While he claims to have enjoyed writing for Jack, writer!Drew was also revealed by Nathanoraptor to have had such low faith in the character's ability to carry a story on his own (and also Leon's) that said low faith proved a strong contributing factor to his subsequent attempts to have Cynthia supplant him and Leon in the {{Deuteragonist}} role. He also even reportedly wanted Jack's arc to be viewed exclusively through the eyes of Cynthia, not to mention reportedly even have him fawn at Cynthia's feet and shower her in mass CharacterShilling for the sake of supposedly developing Cynthia herself.
*** Alice: Despite claiming that she and Adrian were amongst his favorite characters to write for, it has since been revealed by Nathanoraptor that this wasn't enough to save her from writer!Drew potentially planning to have her relevance reduced and prominence downplayed by virtue of having her role as the confident and assertive ActionGirl of the team be assimilated by Cynthia. He also very noticeably had her be immensely nervous during the events of ''New Beginnings'' despite her having supposed to have already had plenty of experience with various dangerous modern day animals in the events that unfolded prior to the story's events, a characterization that noticeably doesn't align with her later characterization throughout the entire rest of the story as a competent and unflappable ActionGirl.
*** Kyle: While he didn't really make it clear whether he liked or hated Kyle or not, he nonetheless seems to have felt no shame or regret in letting his prominence in the story get decreased (likely in what he hoped to be in Cynthia's favor).
*** Nikolai: Despite being amongst writer!Drew's top 5 characters in the story, he also mentioned in the same post that revealed this information that he largely considered him as much because he liked [[ButtMonkey messing around with him]], and even that wasn't enough to prevent writer!Drew from allowing Nikolai's planned prominence in the story be downplayed (to the point of him even getting denied his crucial role in Jack and Colette's mutual romance arc that Nathanoraptor had originally wanted for him to have) in favor of more scenes with Cynthia.
*** Colette: Blatantly disregarded Nathanoraptor's explicitly planned characterization of her as a JerkWithAHeartOfGold who serves as the park's resident ActionGirl (alongside Alice) in favor of trying to turn her into a one dimensional resident AlphaBitch instead (very nearly pulling off such an attempt ''TWICE'' in the same mission!).
*** Linda: While he never made it clear whether he liked or hated her, he noticeably had her seemingly get blatantly LockedOutOfTheLoop in regard to what sort of animals were getting brought back during missions [[note]]''immensely crucial information for her and the other vets to know for the sake of their jobs!''[[/note]] over the course of ''Devils of the Deep'', (hopefully unwittingly) made her look incompetent at her own job by having her end up needing PE!Drew's assistance in figuring out an obvious solution to a problem despite how she logically should have been smart enough to figure it all out herself, very nearly did so a 2nd time by having subsequent dialogue between her and Khatin in the same mission initially be positioned so that it looked as if Khatin [[note]]as in, the park's ''CHIEF SCIENTIST/HEAD OF THE RESEARCH DIVISION''[[/note]] performed a medical checkup on Squishy instead of her [[note]]''THE HEAD VET''![[/note]], and seemingly couldn't even be bothered to include her very first scene in which she's explicitly on the job and proving her position and skill as head vet to be warranted instead of an InformedAttribute himself[[note]]said first scene had to be written in by Nathanoraptor instead[[/note]].
*** Yolanda: While downplayed in comparison to the rest, writer!Drew originally wanted ''Mia'' to be the one Leon and Hedetet rescued from the brontoscorpio swarm despite Yolanda herself having arguably developed a more personal bond with Leon before the scene in question (and was also explicitly planned to be Leon's love interest later in the story).
*** Khatin: While he never made it clear whether he liked or hated the character, writer!Drew noticeably had an action that would have been perfectly appropriate (not to mention would have arguably made a lot more sense) for him to do as per his role as the park's chief scientist/researcher end up being performed by PE!Drew as a result of writer!Drew deciding to shove PE!Drew into uncharacteristically doing this activity instead. And he also appears to have had no shame or regret in allowing the story prominence and possible major arcs that Nathanoraptor had planned for Khatin to be downplayed or removed (possibly in what he hoped to be in favor of more scenes with Cynthia).
*** Will: Implied to have considered him and Matt to be unimportant in comparison to Cynthia and the other already introduced characters planned to play prominent roles and reportedly had to be forced to include Nathanoraptor's planned introduction scene for him and Matt at the cost of a [[CharacterShilling supposed]] CharacterDevelopment scene for Cynthia. And of the two, he arguably proved the luckier of the two in regards to his planned story prominence.
*** Matt: Implied to have considered him and Will to be unimportant in comparison to Cynthia and the other already introduced characters planned to play prominent roles and reportedly had to be forced to include Nathanoraptor's planned introduction scene for him and Will at the cost of a [[CharacterShilling supposed]] CharacterDevelopment scene for Cynthia. And of the two, he ended up getting the short end of the stick in regard to his planned story prominence.
*** Percival von Grimm: Despite having helped create him, writer!Drew originally wanted him and all the other villains of the story to end up very anticlimactically killed off in ''Ten to Midnight'' instead of being given a proper climax against the heroes.
** All that said though, in writer!Drew's defense, it is entirely likely that he was just having difficulty at the time figuring out how to adequately balance out an ensemble cast as well as in figuring out to properly write female characters, and he just ended up unlucky enough to keep getting the short end of the stick in regards to his luck over the course of his trial and error efforts [[TaughtByExperience at figuring out the proper way to do so]]. And furthermore [[ThrowTheDogABone he has since drastically improved on both fronts]] over the course of writing his personal fanfic passion project ''Dinosaur King Retold''. In fact, in regards to his almost having Khatin do Linda's job, he even admitted to Nathanoraptor that this was an honest mistake resulting from him legitimately forgetting which character was the vet.

* CreatorBacklash: With two authors collaborating, both of whom had divergent views on how the story should play out, there has been several instances of this.

*** Alice: Despite claiming that she and Adrian were amongst his favorite characters to write for, it has since been revealed by Nathanoraptor that this wasn't enough to save her from writer!Drew planning to have her relevance reduced and prominence downplayed by virtue of having her role as the confident and assertive ActionGirl of the team be assimilated by Cynthia. * {{Misblamed}}: In the ''three-month hiatus'' between "Alien Empire and "The New Rulers", several readers asked Nathanoraptor about why there was so much time between the finishing arcs. To paraphrase Drew's response in author's notes, Nathanoraptor is merely the co-writer; he does the editing. The one who does the actual writing of the chapters themselves is Drew Luczynski. Subverted much later on when Nathanoraptor ended up being gradually given larger involvement with the actual writing itself.

In regards to Linda, Nathanoraptor took umbrage to how writer!Drew left her blatantly LockedOutOfTheLoop on crucial information [[note]] specifically, just what sort of animals were supposed to be coming back to the park over the course of the missions [[/note]] during ''Devils of the Deep'' and unwittingly made her seem incompetent at her own job as chief veterinarian [[note]] specifically, she ended up needing Drew's assistance to figure out a solution to a problem that she logically should have been smart enough to figure out how to take care of herself. *** Alice: Despite claiming that she and Adrian were amongst his favorite characters to write for, it has since been revealed by Nathanoraptor that this wasn't enough to save her from writer!Drew planning to have her relevance reduced and prominence downplayed by virtue of having her role as the confident and assertive ActionGirl of the team be assimilated by Cynthia.

*** Kyle:

** Drew, meanwhile, once stated that he didn't like Leon very much (though also admitting to uncertainty as to why; and he also later clarified that he didn't actually hate Leon) and also liked Jack more for the sake of messing around with him. In fact, one of the main reasons he was so keen (according to Nathanoraptor) on pushing Cynthia into being a secondary main character was precisely his then low faith in Jack and Leon's ability to carry a story on their own.

* AuthorAppeal: Cynthia's name, appearance, and personality were heavily influenced by this on writer!Drew's end (understandable considering he's the one who created her). She was named after the Sinnoh region champion from ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' (whom writer!Drew has explicitly admitted is an anime character that he's had a crush on in the past), her personality was remarkably similar to pre-CharacterDevelopment [[WesternAnimation/HowToTrainYourDragon Astrid Hofferson]], and she was blonde fair skinned girl just like both of them.

** For his part, Nathanoraptor himself has stated that he is not a big fan of Cynthia. However, despite what some say, he doesn't hate the character; his annoyance was with Drew trying to push her as the #2 main character of the story.

** Drew Luczynski has spoken out how much he wasn't entirely pleased with what resulted from several incidents of creative differences in which he lost out to Nathanoraptor. In particular, he has expressed displeasure with how his adding in Will and Matt at the moment they made their introduction prevented him from including scenes and events that would have [[CharacterShilling supposedly]] allowed Cynthia's character to be developed better. He also wasn't pleased with how Nathanoraptor altered Spiny the dimetrodon, as Drew had been hoping for this story to be an opportunity to promote a separate fic. The fact that he'd also [[HoistByHisOwnPetard vetoed an idea]] from Nathanoraptor involving Spiny that could have easily allowed for more appearances from him despite writer!Drew's initial plans for the character now being obviated probably couldn't have helped his mood at the time either.
