* UnderageCasting: An implied example: Creator/AliceEve, who played the younger O, was in her late 20s during filming. The character is probably around the same age as her actor, meaning she would be in her early 70s by 2012. Creator/EmmaThompson, who played the older O, was 51 whilst filming.

* RebuiltSet: Subverted with MIB HQ. While Bo Welch's basic template and layout from the first two films is more or less the same, HQ overall has undergone a significant, even more retro overhaul. No in-universe explanation is given.

* BillingDisplacement: Although Creator/TommyLeeJones gets second billing, he's only on screen for 15 minutes.

* MissingTrailerScene: The first trailer features a scene where J and K ambush an alien named Marco who takes the form of an animated graffiti snake on a building wall, which doesn't happen in the film.

* ClassicFillerText: A newspaper from June 16, 1969 has a front page story with a photo of Buzz Aldrin before he went on the Apollo 11 mission. The headline and subhead are on topic, but every paragraph of the article is filler, starting with the "future plans" paragraph, followed by "preliminary investigation," "unanimous agreement," etc., which have appeared in several other movies.

* TheOtherDarrin: In the Japanese dub, Creator/TakashiTaniguchi voices K (and his younger self) instead of Creator/YoshisadaSakaguchi.

In a lawsuit filed against his former agents over commissions, Sonnenfeld alleged that Sony considered other directors. Creator/MichaelBay expressed interest in directing.

* DawsonCasting:
** K is supposed to be 29 in 1969. He's played by Creator/JoshBrolin, who was 43 during the filming. J [[{{Lampshading}} lampshades]] this, looking incredulously at K and snarking "Got some city miles on ya, huh?"
** Inverted with Creator/WillSmith as Smith was born in 1968. We learn J was at least 4-5 in 1969, making J a few years older than Will Smith.
** Also inverted with O. Creator/EmmaThompson was born in 1959 and thus would have been ten in 1969. The younger version of O looks to be in her mid to late twenties and is played by Creator/AliceEve who would have been 28 or 29 during filming.

* HypotheticalCasting: Creator/Will Smith suggested that his son Creator/JadenSmith should play the colonel's son, but Creator/BarrySonnenfeld disagreed, giving the role to Cayen Martin instead.

* ActingForTwo: Jemaine Clement as both 2012 Boris and 1969 Boris.

* FakeBrit: In the third film, [[BigBad Boris the Animal]] is played by the New Zealand actor Jemaine Clement. He's technically an alien, but he speaks with a British accent reminiscent of Creator/TimCurry.
