** Likewise, Richard Epcar's resume state that Geneon ''might'' have dubbed up to Episode 104. If this is true however, none of the dubbed versions after Episode 79 have seen the light of day. And it's frankly doubtful they will due to Geneon going belly-up. However, he could have just been referring to scripts, as those are often completed in batches long before recording begins.

** And of course, had the dub been more successful on TV and had Geneon not lost the license (then imploded shortly after), episodes 80-155 might have been dubbed, though this would have created a case of DuelingDubs in the case of the two Creator/HayaoMiyazaki episodes.
** Discotek seriously considered dubbing the rest of the series to completion with them going so far as to delay the latter half of their releases so they could make the arrangements. The high costs of doing so eventually put those ambitions to rest. Presumably, they would have gotten Epcar to direct again and have the Geneon actors (with Creator/DougErholtz replacing the retired Dan Lorge as Zenigata) reprise their parts.

** In the case of Discotek's 2017 DVD release, a few scenes cut from episode 78 were restored, bringing back Dan Lorge our of retirement to reprise his role as Zenigata.

** Creator/BobBergen auditioned to reprise his role as Lupin in Geneon's dub. The reason why it didn't go through was that it was a non-union production, leading Creator/TonyOliver to get the role instead.

* ChannelHop: Creator/NipponTelevision took over for Yomiuri TV as the main broadcaster for the ''Lupin III'' series starting with ''Part II''.

* TheOriginalDarrin: After being replaced by Yukiko Nikaido for ''Anime/LupinIIIGreenJacket'', Creator/EikoMasuyama returned to voice Fujiko Mine for this series[[labelnote:*]] (oddly enough, Masuyama ''does'' appear in one episode of "Green Jacket" as a socialite being waited on and cased by Fujiko – it sounds, appropriately enough, like two Fujikos talking to each other)[[/labelnote]]. With [[Anime/TheFumaConspiracy one exception]], she would be the only Japanese voice actress to handle the role until Creator/MiyukiSawashiro took over in 2011.
* English dub fans consider this trope invoked any time this specific dub cast returns to work on other ''Lupin'' projects.

* ExecutiveMeddling: Apparently, Geneon's dub has a few examples, mainly in the fact that the executives apparently requested that they ''try'' to cover its origins. While the cast enjoyed working on the dub overall, Creator/RichardEpcar admitted he would have preferred it if the executives hadn't told them to try to update the dialogue, since it was not only made in the late 70s, it ''looks'' like it, too, though he admitted he saw where they were coming from with the decision.

This is [[AvertedTrope Averted]] with [[Creator/DiscotekMedia Discotek]]'s rerelease, since they chose to put all the episodes in the original Japanese viewing order.
* UnfinishedDub: Twice; Creator/StreamlinePictures could never dub anything past the two Creator/HayaoMiyazaki-directed episodes, while Creator/{{Geneon}} never dubbed anything past episode 79. Even if one is willing to put the two dubs together (since they do cover different parts of the series), that's only 81 out of 155 episodes dubbed overall.

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The series absolutely ''oozes'' TheSeventies. When it was dubbed into English (26 years later), they ''tried'' to cover it up, but some aspects just stood out too strongly.
** The outfits worn by Fujiko and the secondary characters are all contemporary fashion. Most of that fashion never escaped the 1970s. Averted by Lupin, Jigen, and Zenigata, who wear classic late 1960s vintage suits, and by Goemon, who wears ''15''60s vintage.
** "To Be or Nazi Be" involves the cast making an airborne escape over the UsefulNotes/BerlinWall (still standing in 1977, but long gone by the time the English dub came out in 2003). The American localizers didn't even ''try'' to write around that one.
** "[[Recap/LupinIIIS2E7 Cursed Case Scenario]]" involved Lupin and the gang going to Egypt to steal King Tut's burial mask... but Zenigata is stuck next door in Israel, and manages to get himself arrested when he loudly demands a flight to Cairo, the Israeli official angrily retorting, "There are no flights from Israel to '''''any''''' Arab country!" This episode aired in 1977, two years before the Camp David Accords and the signing of the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty. Nowadays, though the two nations' ''peoples'' certainly still hate each others' guts, it is ''usually'' possible to get from one country to the other... eventually.[[note]] Other former enemies that have signed peace treaties with Israel are its eastern neighbour Jordan, and the not-Arab-but-still-Muslim Eurasian country of Turkey.[[/note]]
** Another episode had a reference to Creator/RogerMoore - who played Film/JamesBond at the time - in the Japanese original; this was changed to Creator/PierceBrosnan in the English dub. That made the ''dub itself'' an Unintentional Period Piece in the 2000s, when Brosnan was replaced by Creator/DanielCraig.
** [[Recap/LupinIIIS2E2 "Guns, Bun, and Fun in the Sun"]] takes place fairly explicitly on January 10, 1977. Why? Because that's the day the New York Cosmos went to [[UsefulNotes/{{Brazil}} Rio de Janeiro]] for a friendly match against Santos Brasil; Lupin's caper of the week was stealing all the money made from ticket sales for the game. The episode itself was made afterward and did not air until about ten months later, in October 1977.

* TheOtherDarrin: Creator/ChikaoOhtsuka did not reprise his role as Goemon and was replaced by Creator/MakioInoue. In an odd case, Creator/EikoMasuyama had voiced Fujiko in the pilot film, was replaced by Yukiko Nikaido for Anime/LupinIIIGreenJacket and returned to voice Fujiko for the next 33 years.
