* FollowTheLeader: While it might not have been the first fanfiction website, it is definitely the most well known, FF.Net's popularity leading to sites like Website/{{Wattpad}} (2006) and Website/ArchiveOfOurOwn (2008), the latter of which was created in response to the site's purging of [=MSTs=] and {{Lemon Fic}}s.

* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The robots.txt that the site used to use didn't allow for the Wayback Machine to hold onto a copy of any fics, so the only way to keep a deleted fic would either to save a copy (typically in [=HTML=] format) or to know the author of the fic in question. There was a way around that but FFN caught onto that, too. [[note]]There were times where fics could be saved through the web-crawlers but those really came to an end when Fanfiction.Net, after a [=DDoS=] attack, switched to Cloudflare[[/note]].

You used to be able to archive the phone version of the FF.Net but, at some point, prolly around the time Cloudflare started to get used, they stopped letting even that get archived. Before that, you could archive the reg site but now y'all can't archive either one. Currently, no webcrawlers can archive Fanfiction.Net

Correction: There is a web archive (archive.ph) that will archive FFN. The Wayback machine used to to be able to archive the mobile version of the site but, because of Cloudflare, you can't do that anymore.

This trope is about works being nigh-impossible to obtain legally, so Keep Circulating The Tapes is actually played straight here.
