** According to the man himself, Edge was originally set to defeat Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship at ''Taboo Tuesday 2004'', and the signs were there as well due to him having feuded with the rest of Evolution since his return that year. However, there was a caveat; Triple H's challenger for the show was determined via a legitimate fan vote, and Edge would only be assured his coronation if he got more votes than his competitors, Chris Benoit and Shawn Michaels. Due to the votes being out of their control, Michaels won the poll with a 2% lead over Edge. By his admission, Edge felt angry and disappointed with the result in addition to leftover hurt feelings over being booed in Toronto at that year's ''Summerslam''; as such, this led to him and the creative team pitching that he turn heel - thus kickstarting Edge's long-standing heel run which ended when he turned face a whole 6 years later.

** There were talks within WWE creative for Edge to break the Undertaker’s streak. Edge refused upon being informed, noting that the streak was something special that needed to be maintained for someone that needed to be “made” as a star to break if even then. Edge noted he was already made as a star at that point and thus having him be the one to break it would be a waste. He would later state that he felt Brock breaking the streak was a mistake and that it should have been Roman Reigns to break it.

Originally, Edge’s cash-in was meant to cement his status as a devious heel who would stoop to dubious means to become champion but immediately following his initial cash-in, winners of the briefcase using it as such became such a no-brainer that even faces who won it would use it as such without any heat being put on them (unless it was done against a champion who was another face).

He has constantly referred to this period as the most stressful of his career, and he coped by channeling the hatred of the fans into making himself a better heel. While it's nothing compared to the forced retirement of Wrestling/{{Lita}} or the downward spiral Matt himself would go through in the following six years, it's also clear that Edge was not enjoying himself during that feud.
