** Their only redeeming quality as a random encounter it their dual typing of ground and rock- meaning they take 4x damage from water and grass types! This can make for especially easy grinding, as caves tend to pop up both early and late in these games. Unless playing a game where trainer rematches are easily found, these caves can be valuable to grass 'mons that need leveling, who otherwise would have to rely on grassy areas (which tend to contain bug and flying types, which have the advantage over grass), or fishing/surfing encounters (which mostly spawn Tentacool and Tentacruel- a sea-based GoddamnBats encounter, which is a water type that lacks the grass weakness due to also being a poison type).

** Honedge, a sword Pokemon from generation 6 was recieved pretty well by fans despite being a floating sword. It's evolution however - which is two crossed swords linked together - got immediately dumped on the scrappy heap for being an inanimate object Pokemon that adds another like Magneton and Klinklang. In fact, ''a lot'' of people thought it was nothing but a bad Photoshopped Honedge when they first saw it.

Hold on, Pikachu doesn\'t qualify, so Charizard probably shouldn\'t either... same for Venusaur

** Interestingly, Venusaur also seems unpopular in some circles, having hit the bottom place in a 2012 Japanese [[http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Rayquaza_wins_15th_anniversary_poll Version Mascot popularity poll]] (below even the [[BaseBreaker divisive]] Creation Trio). While it was never ''hated'' per se, even in the early days there were people who found it ugly and unappealing compared to Charizard and Blastoise. The fact that it was a GameBreaker in Gen I didn't help all that much.
** Until Generation VI, Charizard was this among competitive battlers, due to its overuse in a metagame where it had no right to be. (Smogon classified Charizard as "Never Used", its lowest tier.) Charizard sucked in competitive battling for a lot of reasons, such as its frailty and terrible typing that saw it lose half its health every time it switched into Stealth Rock, and the fact that it was just plain outclassed by many other Fire types. Despite this, many people chose to use it anyway, leading to a lot of ire. It ended up being RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap in Generation VI, where it gained two new Mega Evolutions that are both quite useful in the metagame (Charizard X has a good typing and better attacking stats, while Charizard Y has a great ability and hits like a nuke).

* Rotom-Wash is loathed for being a near-GameBreaker, to the point of receiving the nickname of "Smogon Wash" for its ubiquity in competitive battling. Putting aside this, it also gets hate for looking really stupid - a washing machine with a stupid face being more common than many OlympusMons'll do that.

This is not helped by the fact that water type pokemon are some of the most commonly found pokemon in all of the games. Out of them there are definitely lots of better pokemon than this one (or, in the case of Magikarp and Feebas, [[MagikarpPower at least evolve into something cool and competent]]) and the one thing it was good for ([[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire having Heart Scales so your team can relearn moves]]) got dropped in ''VideoGame/PokemonDiamondAndPearl'' thanks to the Underground. * Many of the plot-important characters in X and Y are criticized for having somewhat bland personalities, but then there's your rivals, ''especially Tierno''. In the first arc of the game's plot, they will drive you to your wit's end with nearly ''every'' sentence they spout out having Mega Evolution shoehorned in there somewhere, and yet everyone but the main rival simply throws the chance to get a Mega Ring aside in what could have been a great BossRush despite their fascination with the concept. Serena/Calem, Shauna and Trevor all get some level of character development and team up with you several times, something that Tierno lacks and thus results in his personality going not too far beyond a dancing obsession, and the latter three are only fought '''twice''' each, and are unable to be rebattled in the post-game, leading to more disappointment.

Fans often describe Patrat as "the next Bidoof".
* The Spiky-Eared Pichu and the Pikachu-Colored Pichu in ''VideoGame/PokemonHeartGoldAndSoulSilver'' fall under this. Not only does the former ''replace [[OlympusMons Celebi]]'' in an event, but there's pretty much nothing special about them except for their appearance and odd moveset. The Spiky-Eared Pichu can't evolve and can't be transferred to the fifth generation, meaning there's absolutely no reason to even bother with it. (The Pikachu-colored Pichu is at least a "shiny" Pokémon, which are normally rare in the games, though it is still considered a waste of an event as they are already technically accessible in-game, unlike most event {{Mons}}.)
* Gligar was this for some fans back in Gen II. Pokémon Gold had Gligar, the first (and only) Ground-Flying type, while Pokémon Silver had [[EnsembleDarkhorse Skarmory]], the first (and only) Flying-Steel type. The reason Gligar was seen as a joke was because of its terrible moveset; its only powerful moves at the time were Faint Attack and Counter. As a result, people only caught it for Pokédex data. [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap However, it was saved from its unfortunate status as the Pokémon Generations moved on.]] Now able to learn moves like X-Scissor, Sky Uppercut, and even Earthquake, the fans began to see it as invaluable when fighting Poison, Electric, and Rock types. [[TookALevelInBadass It also helps that since Sinnoh, it gained an evolution.]]

* Cresselia is this in ''VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonExplorers of Darkness/Time/Sky'' as well as a TierInducedScrappy. Not only do you have to [[EscortMission escort her to the end of the dungeon (A frustrating task already with regular Pokémon, and she's a Legendary)]], but she also has the habit of wandering over lava (Which burns her and ends up wasting your Reviver/Heal Seeds). She's also involved in the final battle against [[spoiler:Darkrai]], in which she's incapable of doing much of anything to him other than fighting off [[spoiler:his {{Mooks}}]].
** From the same PMD games, we have Chatot. Why? For one thing, he's a {{Jerkass}}, and then there's the Perfect Apples incident. To summarize: after Team Skull takes the Perfect Apples during your mission to get them, Chatot berates you and your partner for failing. Instead of taking some time to listen to you and learn what happened, he immediately punishes you for going without dinner and forces you to face the Guildmaster. During that scene, even though Team Skull gives Wigglytuff one of the Perfect Apples to rub salt into your wounds, Chatot ''rubs the failure in your face the next day, telling you to give up on being included for the expedition.'' While he does manage to have what many consider to be his CrowningMomentOfAwesome near the end of the main storyline, it is the Perfect Apples incident that lands him in here.
* [[GoddamnedBats Goddamned Zubat....]]
* Magikarp is a running joke for causing headaches [[MagikarpPower until it evolves into Gyarados]], but with the use of Exp. Share that isn't hard to do, and with him being so common, you could easily raise a formidable army of Gyarados. Feebas, on the other hand, is terribly rare, so getting one at all depends on use of a strategy guide and luck, and evolving it is just as big of a pain. It requires you to boost its beauty stat with fairly rare berries, and only certain natures of Feebas make this possible. One walkthrough writer even went as far as to declare "I hate that fucking fish!"
** To rub salt in the wounds, in Gen. VI Feebas is impossible to find without transferring (which isn't possible without Pokémon Bank, released ''2 months'' after X/Y to a lucky few Japanese players before it was pulled). ''[[TooDumbToLive Guess how many people ask for it on the GTS.]]''
** Thank Arceus, then, for the Prism Scale in ''Black and White''. [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap This takes a lot of guesswork out of getting a Milotic.]]
* There seems to be a lot of hate for Youngster Joey from the Johto games.
** To the point that, as of HG/SS, he's a common meme in most parts of the internet. "It's like my [[EpicFail RATTATA]] is in the top percentage of [[EpicFail RATTATA]]."
** The Youngster and Lass Trainer classes are disliked in general - Youngsters for usually having weak Pokemon and Lasses for being stereotypically ditzy and girly.
* The Unova Water-type starter, Oshawott, became a scrappy within ''two hours'' of its leak. And then its evolutions were revealed and it was [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap rescued]] just as quickly. Nowadays the hate for Oshawott is almost unheard of and is universally considered a RidiculouslyCuteCritter EnsembleDarkhorse whose popularity rivals that of [[EnsembleDarkhorse Snivy]]. The status it gained as TheWoobie from sympathizers helps a lot.
* With the amount of times they attack you, Geodude and its relatives would initially seem to fall under the GoddamnBats trope--but try to fight them and they often reveal themselves as even worse. Because they can learn Selfdestruct naturally, and aren't shy about using it, it's often better to just run away when you encounter them--which will be a lot of times.
* [[ThatOneBoss Whitney's Miltank]] in HG/SS. It was already a pain to fight in the originals, but in the remakes, which now had the ability system from Gen III, it gained the ability to damage Ghosts (which are normally immune to Normal-type moves). Said ability is appropriately titled Scrappy, [[ShoutOut which may have been a reference to the infamous puppy himself]].
** Whitney herself is also hated since she throws a tantrum when she loses instead of giving you the Plain Badge you earned.
** Clair also counts because she refuses to give the Rising Badge after you defeat her. She's not as widely hated as Whitney, though.
* Audino are quite hated by some players. They appear in every single area that has rustling grass, and are what you'll find in them over half the time. This annoys people who are trying for extra rare Pokémon in these patches like certain fully-evolved ones. On the bright side, [[PinataEnemy its massive base EXP yield completely makes up for it]].
** Basculin are basically aquatic Audino without the massive EXP gain; they can be found normally while surfing, and rippling water tiles will often simply have a different colored version of them (Blue-Striped in ''Black'', Red-Striped in ''White''). The only difference in battle is a potentially different ability. They often get in the way of trainers trying to capture rare Pokemon found in rippling water.
* Fennel has been getting this from other players ever since the Global Link opened. What doesn't help is her taunting expression and her [[StopHelpingMe constantly helping out when you only have an hour to spare on the Dream World]].
* The protagonists are prone to this, to varying degrees. If you're not the MemeticBadass's that are Red, Leaf, Hilbert or Hilda you have probably been a scrappy at least once. Dawn especially got hit with this due to [[RealWomenNeverWearDresses her feminine appearance]] (her anime counterpart didn't help her game counterpart's reputation either), and Lyra stands out [[ReplacementScrappy for her design entirely replacing Kris']], [[FirstInstallmentWins who was widely respected as the first optional female character in the franchise]].
** Lyra and Ethan (which one depends on which gender the player picked) can be this to any player who has no patience for the ExpositionFairy. Plus the tendency to call you constantly and at random if you keep your Pokegear on.
** [[VideoGame/PokemonBlack2AndWhite2 Nate and Rosa]] got this treatment when they were revealed, due to their appearing more childish and immature than Hilbert and Hilda (despite being around the same age).
*** [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap And then came the Black 2 and White 2 animated trailer]], which went as far as to make several people consider Nate to be the biggest BadAss since Red himself. As for Rosa, her HotBlooded personality was also very well-received.
** Even Leaf is a bit of a Scrappy in some circles, primarily among [[FirstInstallmentWins Red's]] [[NostalgiaFilter more]] [[FanDumb die-hard fans]].
* As far as Starter Pokémon go, Meganium and Emboar get this treatment sometimes, and according to an IGN poll are the two least popular final starter evolutions. Meganium is widely dismissed for being the only final starter evolution that looks downright cuddly and harmless (it's a cute brontosaurus with a pink flower, [[OvershadowedByAwesome while its two fellow Johto starters are a ferocious volcanic badger that creates explosions and a savage bipedal alligator]]), while Emboar isn't very well liked for being the third Fire/Fighting starter in a row (compounded by its somewhat ugly design compared to the two others, Blaziken and Infernape). Emboar's general inferiority in stats and ability to its Fire/Fighting-type counterparts (Blaziken's an Uber, Infernape is an OU Standard, while Emboar is an RU) in [[TournamentPlay competitive]] [[TierInducedScrappy circles]] really doesn't help its cause either.
** Some believe that Emboar, in fact, is responsible for all the flak that Generation V gets from [[NostalgiaFilter certain sectors of the fandom]]. Fire seems to be the most popular starter type (thanks to a certain [[EnsembleDarkhorse orange dragon]]), but Emboar's lackluster competitive value and unoriginal typing, paired with its somewhat ugly design, made it an unsatisfactory replacement in many people's minds. Since the starters are seen by some as the most important Pokémon for any generation's image and reputation, this may have sullied some people's opinions of ''Black'' and ''White'' as a whole. Worse yet, Emboar reeks of CreatorsPet to some people, seeing how, in spite of its massive {{Hatedom}}, it keeps being put on the spotlight, what with being Black's starter in ''Manga/PokemonSpecial'' and Nate's in the ''VideoGame/PokemonBlack2AndWhite2'' animated trailer instead of the more popular Serperior and Samurott.
* Fennekin was the [[EnsembleDarkhorse most popular]] Kalos starter when it was first revealed. When its second evolution, Braixen, was revealed, it still had the best reception of the trio. Come the leaks of the final evolutions and Delphox immediately received the most ire from the fandom due to its UncannyValley appearance.
* If a Pokémon is based on an inanimate object, it often gets a ton of hate. For example, Garbodor is often considered an unpopular Pokémon based on design.
** Although [[EnsembleDarkhorse Chandelure]] seems to be avoiding this pretty well.
*** When its fully-evolved form Aegislash was revealed, it was RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap and became an EnsembleDarkhorse like the above-mentioned Chandelure. [[TierInducedScrappy Though still hated for different reasons due to being incredibly unpredictable in battle and ludicrously strong]]
* Luvdisc, who is considered by many fans to be the most useless waste of life out of all 718 (thus far) Mons. It was so ''very nearly'' RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap when fans saw [[VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite Alomomola]], but when it was revealed to be a stand-alone (ie non-evolutionary) mon, the fans went straight back to beating Luvdisc with merciless abandon.
** Similarly, there's Unown. A Psychic-type Pokémon that is essentially a side "GottaCatchEmAll" gimmick since there's 28 different variations (one for each letter of the alphabet and some punctuation). It doesn't help that Unown has horrible stats and can only learn Hidden Power (a move whose type and damage depend on stats that you have no way of knowing for sure without a guide). To make matters worse, all you get for catching all the variations of Unown is a certificate saying you caught them all (at least in Gold/Silver/Crystal you could print out said certificate).
* Any Pokémon that is an [[ReplacementScrappy obvious expy of an older, popular Pokémon]] and is featured relentlessly in marketing will be a victim of some amount of this trope. Most notable are Minun and Plusle during Gen III and Pichu during Gen II and especially Gen IV (see the entry on the Spiky-Eared- and Pikachu-Colored Pichus above). They appears to have learned their lesson now as Gen V's Pikachu-expy Emolga was almost ignored and Gen VI's marketing has far focused only on the version mascots, the starters and classic Gen I EnsembleDarkhorse mons with Mega Evolutions.
** The marketing centered around Gen V's Zoroark was also met with a lot of negative reactions and it was soon deemed to be one of these for Lucario, but Game Freak / Nintendo quickly moved its marketing focus towards the version mascots, allowing the fans to warm up to Zoroark and ultimately avert this trope.
** Pikachu clones (Plusle, Minum, Pachirisu, Emolga, and Dedenne) are something that many fans are severely sick of, since they appear to serve no purpose other than to appeal to little kids with their saccharine TastesLikeDiabetes nature and to remind people of [[SeriesMascot Pikachu]], who has become a ''huge'' BaseBreaker due to its undeniable SpotlightStealingSquad WolverinePublicity reputation. To make matters worse, Pikaclones have horrible stats and do not evolve, which deems them almost completely useless in battle.
* Scott from Pokémon Emerald is considered this by quite a few players due to his habit of appearing or contacting the player out of nowhere many times similar to Cheren and Bianca shown above, which they find annoying. Thanks to {{LetsPlay/Marriland}}'s Emerald Nuzlocke series, he's even been considered by quite a few people [[RonTheDeathEater to be the cause of players' Pokémon dying and that he's in league with the likes of antagonists]].
* The Fishermen trainers that use half a dozen Magikarp have sizeable [[{{Hatedom}} Hatedoms]], as the battle drags and Magikarp gives hardly any Exp. when defeated, wasting several minutes of your life that you will never get back. The only point of these battles is to easily gain Speed [=EVs=].
