** Picking Heydrich as the successor, e.g the player character when Hitler croaks is THE most difficult faction to play with, bordering on UnwinnableByDesign: even Omsk and other warlords start in a quiet wasteland to build up and expand for decades. Not only you start around Luxembourg and Strassbourg with a bunch of lightly armed fanatics, but in full-scale war versus a superpower that is made of three fighting giants with fully mechanized, fully industrialized country of 100 million. Exploit an opening and start expanding, and all three will join in an alliance against you, particularly painful since you have no cores during the fight, eating whatever tiny garrison force you can trickle down. If by some inhuman luck (or cheating) you dismantle the three-way alliance, the center of Germany, Speidel's "Schutzzone", declares that "Germany will not accept a monster like Heydrich", unleashing the sleeping Wehrmacht remnants.
** Rather realistically, it’s incredibly difficult for any U.S. President to achieve all their goals to perfection ''and'' ensure their party wins re-election. Barreling through without compromise typically table your popularity and ability to achieve future goals.

** The National Progressive Pact is a coalition between a constellation of parties united solely by opposition to the two-party system (causing the Republicans and Democrats to form their own coalition and, ironically, [[FullCircleRevolution bringing back the two-party system anyway]]). The main divide is between progressive defectors from the Democratic Party (who left over its liberal wing's dynastic nature and its not going far enough) and segregationist defectors from the Democratic Party (who left over its sudden leftwards shift), which is already a volatile combination when you don't consider the fact that under the [=NPP=] banner, ''communists and fascists have to coexist''.

*** In Oman, the United States and Italy will back the Sultanate of Oman, Japan will back the Immanate of Oman, and Germany will back the Dhofar Rebellion.

* RagTagBunchOfMisfits: The English Resistance is made up of a smattering of ideologies with members ranging from former British military veterans to random civilians sick of the regime.

* {{Unishment}}: When Chita is conquered by Sablin, Father, or Matkovsky, its "[[PuppetKing leader]]" Mikhail II Romanov's sentence is exile back to Australia. Which, as these leaders are fully aware, is a reward dressed as a punishment to outsiders, because Mikhail was effectively kidnapped, held hostage and forcibly crowned by the White Army remnants and wished desperately for nothing but to go back home.

* WhiteAndGreyMorality: Like other Russian regions, Central Siberia has a few unambiguously positive democratic and socialist unifiers, but unlike other regions, the region has no outright villainous paths, and only several gray ones. Even the more villainous Central Siberian unifiers[[note]]Lydia in Kemerovo, Novosibirsk's corporate overlords, Krasnoyarsk's military hardliners, and the Siberian security council[[/note]] are merely extremely cynical rather than outright malevolent, don't indulge in tyranny like the bad paths in other regions, and still have some good points within them. In addition, the Siberian de-unifier has some of the most [[ChummyCommies benevolent goals]] out of any potential de-unifer that could emerge in Russia.

** Neither the OFN nor Afrika Schild find themselves in an ideal situation should they achieve total victory in the South African War. If the OFN is victorious, they end up in control of a massive area of ruined land, still crawling with African guerillas, many of whom had willingly joined the SS brigades. They, along with the still-unhappy Boers, will pose a lasting nightmare for South Africa and the US military administration of Central Africa. Meanwhile, Afrika Schild and the Boer State are left holding control of a massive ANC-aligned population if they win, and without the threat of the OFN have every reason to turn on one another. In addition, Huttig no longer needs the other two [=RKs=] as allies.

Any nuclear war that ''does'' happen comes from outside events that weren't directed by the SS (except for Heydrich winning a ''steep'' uphill battle to take over Germany, which stands a good chance of falling apart for Burgundy if he garners enough support from the SS warlords against Himmler's plans) and the concept of Aryans dominating Earth only happens because the Burgundians who survive believe that only Aryans were even ''able'' to survive, prompting them to expand the definition of "Aryan" to include everyone who made it through the apocalypse, including Jews and black people.]]

* PurpleIsTheNewBlack: The ideology color of Esoteric Nazism is purple, as Black was taken by Ultranationalism.

** In previous versions of the mod, [[ALighterShadeOfBlack Sōkichi Takagi]] represented an option to lay down the foundations for a liberal Japanese democracy through selectively chosen social reforms. However, because Japan is still fundamentally an imperialist and fascist state, making these changes ''lasting'' required him to compromise with various factions within the Japanese Diet and present the more radical ideas (like women's rights and free market individualism) [[PatrioticFervor as consistent within Japanese national identity]]. Trying to ramrod controversial changes through without delicacy would lead to dramatic economic damage and [[NiceJobBreakingItHero worse, upheaval and pushback among the Japanese military and reactionary elements of Japanese politics]].
** In Wales' focus tree, one of Lewis' final acts is to pass a language bill that will emphasize Welsh as the national language, replacing English signs on the roads and English speaking lessons for children in schools. The tree makes it seem like the bill will pass through without a hitch, but because English has been the main language of Wales for centuries and very few Welsh can understand their own language, it results in mass protests. Whoops.

The leaders do not get along, however: Wolfgang Schenck is trying to sabotage his own regime to free the Angolan people, Siegfried M&uumlller just wants to hunt, and Africa's resident BloodKnight, Hans Hüttig, hates both of them. He eventually turns on them if the war doesn't end in the Schild's total defeat.

** The Japanese Economic War event uses a segment from Camille Saint-Saëns's [[https://youtu.be/tVCvJZtzkqQ?t=80 Piano Concerto No 2 in G minor]].

** After Angola is decolonized, the country will fall into a two-way civil war between the UNITA and MPLA, where they receive support from the United States and Japan, respectively.

* VillainWorld: Downplayed. Unlike Literature/TheManInTheHighCastle, the confusingly named VideoGame/WolfensteinTheNewOrder, or any of a number of derivative works, the Axis doesn't win World War II to such a degree that they control all or most of the world outright. However, their empires are still extensive - a good 50-odd percent of Africa has been divided between Germany and Italy and Japan holds vast, if shaky, hegemony over East Asia - and fascism, already semi-normalized, can wind up being seen as a perfectly acceptable ideology if Speer is [[spoiler:allowed to establish a [[EvilDoppelganger German-dominated]] FictionalUnitedNations, becoming able to spread Nazism through soft power worldwide]].

* NapoleonDelusion: Russian warlord Nikolay Krylov in Kemerovo claims to be the second coming of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rurik Rurik]], the semi-legendary founder of the Old Russian state. [[spoiler:However, when he's on his deathbed, Rurik admits that his insane claims were all a ploy, but whether he's telling the truth or suffering another delusion is a mystery.]]

** Ivan Serov, the leader of the Ordosocialists of Komi, blends Marxism-Leninism with radical Russian nationalism. This bizarre blend of fascism and communism is ultimately classified as National Socialist.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Bukharin's attempt to industrialize the Soviet Union through the NEP backfired horribly, leaving them weak and vulnerable to the German onslaughter during World War II.

* NotQuiteDead: When Dirlewanger escaped from Speidel to the Urals, many in the Reich assumed that he couldn't survive the Russian frozen wastelands and angry Slavic hordes in it. To the dismay of the Urals' population, they were wrong.

* OmnicidalManiac: [[spoiler: Heinrich Himmler wants a global nuclear apocalypse because he believes it will pave the way for the Aryan MasterRace to recolonize the world.]]
* OnlySaneMan:
** {{Exploited}}. Of all the potential successors to Hitler, Albert Speer seems to be the most sensible, with many buying the notion that he's the best chance Germany has at liberalizing. despite still being a Nazi and a Holocaust perpetrator in the past. In truth, he's still very much a Nazi and unrepentant Holocaust perpetrator, only paying lip service to the genuine reformists in his cabinet so that he can create a competent National Socialist empire. [[spoiler: Ultimately, the real major reforms come from the Gang of Four, after they win the inevitable showdown with Speer.]]
** Sablin and [[spoiler: Alexander Men]] are this initially for the Far Eastern Unifiers, being the only genuinely benevolent figures in a [[EvilVersusEvil battle between various tyrannical figures within NKVD-led Irkutsk and the Harbin three]]. At regional unification however, it is possible [[spoiler: for less despotic figures to take over Irkutsk, Magadan and Chita, while Sablin's regime can fall to authoritarianism and Men's regime can collapse in a failed coup.]]

* PayEvilUntoEvil: The All-Russian Black League under Yazov plans for the total destruction of Germany and everything associated with it, by nuclear war if necessary, to pay back Germany for the two decades of cruelty and humiliation it brought to the Russian people.

* PrecisionFStrike: One of the Ostafrikan trees ends with a focus named "Everyone is Fucking Useless".

* PrideParade: The TropeCodifier of this trope in real life, the Stonewall Riots, can occur in the US under similar circumstances.

* PuppetKing:
** Edward VIII is the powerless collaborator head of state of the Kingdom of England, his legitimacy coming entirely from the Nazis.
** Hermann Göring allied with the militarists for political power, but he's just a figurehead for their movement.

* RapePillageAndBurn: Dirlewanger leads a bandit army that seeks nothing more than to loot the surrounding world with his gang of brigands. So disinterested in actually establishing a state are they that they destroy all infrastructure and factories in any states they take and loot them for immediate gains in supplies.

* ReassignedToAntarctica:
** Lazar Kaganovich, the leader of hardline Communists of Tyumen, was sent to govern Western Siberia to diminish his influence in Moscow politics. However, after the war, and by extension the collapse of the Soviet Union, Kaganovich managed [[StartMyOwn to carve his own domain]] behind the Urals, where he plots to reclaim the Soviet Union.
** One of the approaches Bormann can take to the South Africa War is sending various dissidents to the Reichskommissars in the hope they die in the fighting. These dissidents include Waffen SS remnants, militarists, and reformists.
** Brazilian President Henrique Teixeira Lott can do this to his rival and leader of hardliner in the Military, Siseno Sarmento by assigning him to Manaus, Capital of Amazonas, right in the middle of the rainforest of the same name.

** Meanwhile, actual UsefulNotes/RichardNixon is the president of the United States for the Republican-Democratic Party... in 1960. On a related note, UsefulNotes/JohnFKennedy is Nixon's Vice-President.
** Konstantin Rokossovsky, Alexander Vasilevsky, Alexander Yegorov and other famed Soviet generals ended up as Russian warlords in their own right.
** Famed Soviet firearm designers Mikhail Kalashnikov and Yevgeny Dragunov (designers of the AK-47 and the SVD Dragunov) are the duumvirist leaders of Zlatoust, a Russian state.

** Abba Kovner, the head of Ostland's United Partisan Organization, is the face of European anti-antisemitism and envisions himself as a Dybbuk, a legendary Jewish spirit hell-bent on revenge. He advocates for ''[[red:Nakam]]'' ("revenge"), a concept as ominous as it is vague, especially given that in OTL, Kovner was the leader of a group also called [[red:Nakam]] that aimed to kill six million Germans in retaliation for the Holocaust.

* SeanConneryIsAboutToShootYou: The unification event for the Far East if Yagoda unites it features this with an NKVD executioner.

* SovietSuperscience: Perhaps more closely ''post''-Soviet Superscience, but the MadScientist Trofim Lysenko, a remnant of the old Soviet Union, possesses all manner of insane and advanced technology, and as a result of Lysenko's brilliance/insanity and his abandoning of any ethical limitations he ever had, his nation of Magnitogorsk gets a massive 25% reduction in research time, all but assuring that Magnitogorsk will always be on the cutting edge of global technology.

* SuccessThroughInsanity:
** Siberian Anarchist Communes, or Siberian Black Army, can ''crowdfund nuclear weapons'', per their anarchist-libertarian ethic with references to ''VideoGame/KerbalSpaceProgram''. The program has foci implying that the SBA literally goes door to door and takes everyone's opinions about how to build a nuke. Including peasants. Named EMANTSIPATSIYA (Emancipation), ''it has a roughly two-in-three chance of producing a working weapon,'' doing so far faster than any other Russian warlord, which has to go through a long slog of research and development that will never produce a functioning warhead before its content runs out. There is still a one-in-three chance of it predictably blowing up in their faces (in the middle of their territory), but still.
** One of the potential unifiers for Russia is Rurik II of Kemerovo, previously known as Major-General Nikolai Krylov of the Red Army before his mental breakdown. He believes he is the reincarnation of the ancient Varangian prince who united the Rus in medieval times, and his kingdom is a highly unusual fusion of populist constitutional monarchism, Soviet-style workers' protections and trade unionism, and [[DaysOfFuturePast Kievan and Muscovite aesthetics ands customs]], but still with a modern army and industrial base (having fairly powerful bonuses in both military and industry thanks to being Red Army remnants and having access to leftover factories helps). "Rurik II" ultimately proves to be a highly competent statesman and military commander, and TheGoodKing. [[spoiler:As he lies dying in his bed shortly after unifying all of Russia, he admits to his children that he was just pretending to be insane ("Perhaps this whole charade was worth it in the end") [[DyingAsYourself and passes away peacefully as Nikolai Krylov]].]]

* TheTheocracy:
** Seeing how both the secular Tsars and godless Communists failed to perform Russia's divine duty of protecting and promoting the Orthodox faith and were both punished for their sins, several Russian warlords, including those in Gayny, can launch a crusade against infidels in order to restore His rule over the Christian people and form Russia as a nation ruled by the Church.
** Likewise, during the Iberian Civil War, as a reaction to governmental fecklessness which caused this conflict, the National Redemption Front wants to take over the peninsula to create a Catholic state, the "Kingdom of God on Earth".
** Under the rule of Nikolay Zabelkin, Kostanay becomes an Islamic theocracy wanting to launch a ''jihad'' against the infidels of other parts of Kazakhstan.

* UncertainDoom: Bukharin disappeared without a trace after the Soviet collapse. There are several versions of his further fate in the mod. It is finally revealed for certain [[spoiler: [[https://i.imgur.com/PaJm5P2.png in a post-nuclear ending]] that not only has Bukharin been alive the whole time, but living in the middle of nowhere out of shame for failing to save the world. While he survives the initial nuking, an aged Bukharin only further laments his inability to save Russia and the world from its fate.]]
* UnexpectedSuccessor: Heydrich is the least expected successor to Hitler, and when he is declared as such, hardly anyone outside of the SS approves of the decision, due to Heydrich's personal unpopularity and ties with Himmler. Similarly, an AI-controlled Heydrich has basically no chance to win the German Civil War, and presents a major challenge to a human player.

* AVillainNamedKhan: Abu Dusukhambetov, the leader of bandits in Kokshetau, Kazakhstan, named himself Abu Khan to invoke the glory of warlords of the past, such as Genghis Khan.

* VillainousBreakdown: After Hitler's assassination attempt, Himmler flies into an uncharacteristic fury. [[spoiler:It turns out Himmler orchestrated the assassination to gain control of Germany, and as a result [[NukeEm creates a new plan]]...]]

** Tukhachevsky in the WRRF leads a militarist, hawkish faction of the WRRF (ideologically defined as Stratocratic Communism), believing that the restored Soviet Union must have its military as a central focus, and be diplomatically aggressive against its Fascist enemies.

* WeHardlyKnewYe:
** Adolf Hitler dies in a year or so after the start of the game, leaving his place to be taken [[SuccessionCrisis by the strongest]].
** Prince Amadeo, Viceroy of Italian East Africa, is on his deathbead at the game start.
** [[spoiler:John F. Kennedy, Nixon's VP and successor after his resignation, is assassinated by a white nationalist before 1964]].
** President John [=MacCormick=] of Scotland is already in poor health at the game's start, and dies before the last focus in Scotland's first focus tree can be completed.

** Once Maurice is evacuated out of Madagascar, the OFN takes over the entire Reichskommissariat and reorganizes it into their own occupation government. This leads to a civil war with the secessions of Milch's hardline militarists and the Malagasay resistance, where the former is backed by the Einheitspakt and the latter is backed by the Sphere.

** It's implied this is what happened to Reichskomissar Emil Maurice in Reichskomissariat Madagaskar, who only got the job because the SS demanded he be removed from Germany for his Jewish ancestry. Maurice is suitably unhappy with the position.

* NonstandardGameOver: Aside from being annexed by another country, ''The New Order'' also has a start of nuclear war as a game over condition. [[spoiler: If you're playing as Burgundy, however, this is instead your ultimate victory condition, though you have no way to cause it yourself.]]

* NothingIsScarier: Some of the events from Dirlewanger's death are this, for a brief burst of supernatural horror. In one, ''something'' happens to his truck that carves a deep pit into the earth, and those who look into it refuse to speak of what they see. In another, he enters a barren house with only an old blind man and looks at a seemingly ordinary photograph of the man standing on some Uralic hills before disappearing forever leaving behind only evidence of a terrified flight (though this last one may seem familiar if you've known the ''Website/SCPFoundation'' long enough, while ''still'' leaving his fate unclear).

** Reichskommisar Müller has one with Free French general, Jacques Massu. If Reichskommisar Huttig takes over the African states and tries to have Müller killed, Müller flees to the Free French territories and is greeted with open arms by his friend, and [[HeelFaceTurn becomes a general for Free France]].

* OneSteveLimit:
** Komi in Russia has two potential leaders named Svetlana who are also daughters of two different Soviet leaders (Bukharin and Stalin respectively).
** There are two Government of National Salvations; one is the German puppet regime in Serbia at game start, the other is the militarist government revolting in Portugal during the Iberian Wars.

* OminousMundanity: The "[[DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans Burgundian System]]" is a mundane and euphemistic name for an unimaginably extreme form of totalitarianism which effectively turns all of society into a massive concentration camp.

** Of all the potential successors to Hitler, Albert Speer is by far the most sensible, despite still being a Nazi and a Holocaust perpetrator in the past. He can enact major reforms in the Reich, putting a stop to the Nazis' insane obsession with racial purity and getting rid of its pointless military excesses. He can also do what none of the others would and enact the necessary economic changes to save the Reich's ailing economy as well as significantly improving its international image. Doing all this results in him facing massive opposition from die-hard National Socialists and potentially being overthrown, but if he [[EarnYourHappyEnding makes the right choices and necessary compromises]], he can [[AWorldHalfFull reform the Reich into a semi-democratic institution, abolish slavery and racial hatred, and even create a version of the United Nations]]. [[spoiler: Until it's revealed that he's doing all that to sustain Nazism forever, ensure German dominance, and in private, Speer is still very much a Nazi and absolutely despises genuine democratic reforms, leading to an inevitable showdown between him and the true reformers - his own cabinet.]]

* PayEvilUntoEvil:
** The All-Russian Black League under Yazov plans for the total destruction of Germany and everything associated with it, by nuclear war if necessary, to pay back Germany for the two decades of cruelty and humiliation it brought to the Russian people.
** Dirlewanger is a noted rapist and in one of his many death events, this may come back to bite him in the ass as over 50 revenge-seeking women sneak into the camp in the dead of night, kill Dirlewanger, and tear out all of his organs to sell on the black market.

** The South African Civil War between the OFN-backed South African government and the Axis-backed Boer rebels serves as this timeline's version of UsefulNotes/{{The Vietnam War}}, complete with American soldiers trudging through hostile terrain while guerrillas hide out in the bush, as well as the expected peace protests and political bickering back home.

** If the Iberian Union collapses, the superpowers intervene to support their favored side. Specifically, the United States supports the Spanish Republic, Germany supports the Falangists, and Japan supports the Rif Republic.

* ReferenceOverdosed: A good portion of Dirlewanger's death events consists of references to many other fiction works, up to [[WholePlotReference Whole Plot References]].

** After the Nazis' triumphant march into Moscow and subsequent annexation of most land west of the Urals, the Soviet Union broke apart. All former Russian territory not annexed by Germany or Japan has been taken over by a myriad of squabbling warlords, mercenaries and supposed successor states following every ideology under the sun. Former Soviet politicians and military leaders were scattered across the country; many still hold on to Communism, though others have moved away from socialism and can no longer be really considered remnants of the Soviet Union. Major Soviet remnants can be found in the West Russian Revolutionary Front, Komi, Magnitogorsk (though they've pretty much thoroughly abandoned socialism there), Tyumen, People's Revolutionary Council, Irkutsk, Kyzylorda, and Tajikistan. WRRF and Irkutsk themselves are remnants of earlier times when they were much stronger Soviet successor states.
** [[LaResistance Free France]] is still around, although their situation is even worse. Their previous territory in North Africa has either annexed by the Axis or been glassed by the Luftwaffe. Their last remnants are located on the Ivory Coast, and they are struggling to hold on to even that.
* RestartTheWorld: A major theme of ''The New Order'' is that the world is so utterly broken by an Axis victory that it will never recover, and that the only real way for the horrors of Fascism to end is for the world to be destroyed in nuclear fire. Many of the post-apocalyptic events take an unusually optimistic tone, and the ending overall takes a more positive outlook than even an ending where democracy sweeps the Earth. The implication is that, over time, the sins of the past will be lost to history and mankind will move on and rebuild. [[spoiler: In a very twisted way, [[RightForTheWrongReasons Himmler is right]]]].

* RevengeBeforeReason: More like "Revenge Without Reason". Many of the Russian warlord states lead their people through various ideologies ranging from communism (WRRF, Tyumen, Buryatia) and liberal pluralism (Komi, Tomsk) to aristocratic conservatism (Vyatka, Kemerovo), Omsk's Siberian Black League has one unifying tenet: revenge against the Third Reich and the people of Germany for humiliating and brutalizing Russia for twenty years. Everything they do is ultimately oriented towards this goal, and anything that gets in the way is removed. Allying with other warlord states? Not possible, they're in the way of the [[red:Great Trial]]. Democracy? [[SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids Don't be silly, comrade]], [[EvilCannotComprehendGood democratic states cannot hope to stand against the ultimate evil that Germany represents]]. Germany has nuclear weapons and they are willing to use them the moment a single Russian boot steps into core German territory? Well, that's what the metro bunkers are for; we'll just use our own weapons and wait for the glowing dust to settle, and then emerge, ready for the next offensive. Omsk ''will'' stomp over the ruined bricks of Berlin, even if they must march through nuclear winter and burn their feet on the still-glowing ashes.

** Meanwhile, actual UsefulNotes/RichardNixon is the president of the United States for the Republican-Democratic Party... in 1960.
** UsefulNotes/JohnFKennedy is Nixon's Vice-President and, aside from that, he is mostly the same Jack Kennedy as we know him in real life, but he is very unpopular among the American population because of his father's reputation (who led America to a disastrous defeat in WWII) and because of rumors of his family's ties to the Nazis.
** Georgy Zhukov, Alexander Vasilevsky, Kliment Voroshilov and other famed Soviet generals ended up as Russian warlords in their own right.

** West German Chancellors Kurt Georg Kiesinger, Helmut Schmidt and Ludwig Erhard are liberal politicians in the Nazi Party. They form three of the "Gang of Four", Albert Speer's closest aides who architect his major reforms. They are aided by their fourth member, Henning von Tresckow, a German officer best known for multiple failed attempts to assassinate and overthrow Hitler.

* RuleOfCool: Paris is actually cut into Northern and Southern halves by the Seine, so the term "Ost-Paris" doesn't make much physical sense. It is more thematically fitting for Burgundy however, since it's on the East side of France.
* RuleOfDrama:
** The creation of the Iberian Union has no real life basis, and it was unlikely for Spain and Portugal to unite into a single country just because of German aggression. Iberia exists in some ways purely to fuel narrative needs for political drama and allowing the Iberian Wars to happen.
** The general lore of the South African War takes a significant amount of liberties with the historical conditions of Sub-Saharan Africa to create a Vietnam War analogue in TNO. The geography of Southern Africa significantly favored mechanized warfare over Vietnam's guerrilla warfare, Nazi Germany had no plans to Germanize Africa and would've ran its colonies like any other European colonizer, the scale of the war is ''far'' bigger than Vietnam and likely would've had far bigger impacts around the world, the German colonies are not developed enough to "bog-down" the war (and somehow don't collapse when the European colonies collapse the moment Hitler dies), and the entire cultural front of the war would've been thoroughly different compared to real life, since America is by ''all'' metrics more left-wing than the Nazis.

** Two democratic nations in Russia, Komi and Tomsk, occupy radically different ends of the spectrum, in regards to democracy. Komi is way on the cynical end of the spectrum; their democracy is massively unstable, with people of all sorts of foul ideologies willing to take power. They can use democracy to gain power, only to cast democracy aside once they have it. Even the centrist faction in charge of Komi at game start isn't above using foul play, up to assassination, to maintain their power. Tomsk, on the other hand, is very idealistic; the republic is rooted so tightly to democratic ideals, that some of the parties are, for instance, named the Modernists and Bastilists. Democracy has very widespread support in Tomsk, and this keeps authoritarians out of their politics; as long as Tomsk is independent, they will ''always'' be democratic.

** Spartanism is the key element that distinguishes the SS's Esoteric Nazism from ordinary Nazism (and the Esoteric Nazism of non-SS madmen), and is present in almost all of the SS Esoteric Nazi sub-ideologies. Spartanism, in short, is an extreme form of SocialDarwinism that rejects every kind of weakness within an Aryan society, no matter how small these "weaknesses" are. In countries under SS Spartanist rule, entertainment, freedom, and excess are seen as decadent, so all welfare, property, culture, and entertainment are stripped out of normal civilian lives, and everyone is forced to either work in the industries or in the military. Life is reduced to its bare minimum, with homes replaced by minimalist communal barracks, and even clothing regulated to militaristic basics. Laziness is equated to crime, and crime is instantly punished by permanent banishment to the slave camps. The adherents of Spartanism believe that this system of state oppression and absolute control will create a perfect race of hardworking Aryans.

* SpontaneousHumanCombustion: One of Dirlewanger's many death events will have leaked footage[[note]] Recorded by one of his bandits messing with a captured video camera.[[/note]] of him suddenly igniting while he is giving orders, baffling scientists.
--> "Maybe hell had simply claimed him."

*** The [[LesCollaborateurs French State]] is partially balkanized with an independent Britanny and one-third occupied by Himmler's Burgundy. For their colonies (as of Penelope's Web), the only one they still control is Algeria; Japan took French Indochina, Germany took French Congo, while the rest of their colonies went independent.
*** [[LaResistance Free France]] got it even worse; having already lost of almost all of their territories to the French State, the only territory still under their effective control is the Ivory Coast in West Africa, which is also bombed into oblivion daily as ''training'' by German pilots to prevent any threats rising. If they're subsequently defeated in the West African War, they promptly flee to pursue an even more miserable existence in the Kerguelen Islands.

** The National Progressive Party in America is a bizarre combination of Socialists and Progressives allied with Dixiecrats and Fascists, united in common cause against the political establishment and America's reluctance to engage Japan directly. Depending on what direction the Republican-Democrats take with regards to the civil rights movement, one wing or the other will win out in the NPP, turning it into either Progressive or an outright Socialist party, a Far-Right party, a Fascist party that may or may not support the Reich, or potentially a more moderate variant of either extreme.

* AWorldHalfFull: The world of ''The New Order'' may be genuinely horrific, but it is possible for good to prevail. Himmler's schemes can fail, the German Reich may either reform or collapse, and democracy and freedom can sweep the planet once again. As the ''Star Wars'' event chain demonstrates, as the 1980s approach people are genuinely beginning to develop a new hope for a bright new century for humankind. Even the worst-case scenario, the nuclear apocalypse, has humanity rebuilding, building a society of love and equality, and letting go of the hatred that led to near-extinction.
* WorldGoneMad: Played for all the horror and drama a Nazi victory in World War II is worth. It has led to an alternate [[TheSixties Sixties]] where fascist ideology is validated beyond the borders of Germany. Things are so dire that depending on how bad things get (Germany collapses into ForeverWar, the [[TheDreaded Devil of Shōwa]] takes control of the Japanese Empire, [[DayOfTheJackboot America falls under the]] [[PresidentEvil Yockey Adminstration]]), a NonStandardGameOver where the world is destroyed by a thermonuclear war is presented as a ''BittersweetEnding'' because a new civilization finally arises built on peace and understanding in a DistantFinale once all the toxic ideologies of the past have been forgotten. Nowhere is this more apparent than the defeated remnants of the Soviet Union (fallen into a patchwork of warlord states head by various fascists, ultranationalists, anarchists and despots, including a [[NapoleonDelusion mad colonel who believes he is the reincarnation of a Viking prince who united Russia in ancient times]]). [[spoiler:The ''After Midnight'' scenario that takes place in a post-Taboritsky collapse ramps up the ideological insanity of Russia up to eleven: the remaining democrats and socialists must also contend with deranged loyalists of Taboritsky still calling for the mad regent's last murderous orders to be fulfilled, {{General Ripper}}s who believe all of Russia outside their bunkers must be destroyed and subjugated like the Germans they were intending to destroy, and ''genuine human-sacrificing, flesh and blood-eating, girl-raping Satanists''.]]

* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: One death event for Oskar Dirlewanger has an SS squad round him and his men up and shoot them, seeing their banditry in Russia as no longer needed.

* OperationBlank: Göring is ''very'' fond of naming his military campaigns. Operation Isabella, Operation Herkules, Operation Sea Lion II, Fall Rockwell...

** Even being the ''Emperor'' of Vietnam, Bao Dai is still completely dependent on Japan.
** Hermann Göring allied with the militarists for political power, but upon winning the German Civil War, he finds himself being [[TheDragAlong dragged along]] in endorsing more wars, because if he doesn't they'll [[ImpliedDeathThreat find a Führer who will]].

** Göring offers to do this to Schörner if he tries to take power from the militarists before they can start War Plan C. To make up for removing him as he’s dog the OKW, one idea Göring throws out to make up for this is to create a new Reichkommissarat for Schörner somewhere distant, like Kamchatka, where Schörner could rule like a king. Schörner never takes any of Göring’s ideas seriously though, and always rejects anything he says.

* RightForTheWrongReasons: Bormann and Göring believe in a wild conspiracy theory in which Switzerland is attempting to weaken the Reich through market manipulation, a wild conspiracy theory which happens to be completely true, except that the actual Swiss motivation is ensuring they can't be invaded rather than so they can have power over Germany.

* SpaceFillingEmpire:
** In case of a total OFN victory during the South African War, the US can establish a single Central African Republic on the occupied territory of former Reichskommissariats (aside from parts which are annexed by South Africa) under a military ruler. This doesn't end well. If the war ends without the Reichkommissariats being kicked off the continent, Hüttig will essentially do the same thing by creating the Großafrikanischer Reichstaat. It ends just as poorly.
** Göring's conquests employ a lot of this as he installs Reichskommissariats to govern over large swaths of territory without any concern for geographical and cultural differences of the conquered countries.

* StupidJetpackHitler: Göring wants to apply research purely on superweapons, developing some crazy Wunderwaffen like the [[ThePowerOfTheSun the Sun Gun]]. However, it's implied none of these experimental weapons will work, with the Sun Gun in particular [[ColonyDrop falling out of orbit]] [[TheyKilledKennyAgain and serving as ANOTHER death event for Dirlewanger when parts of it crush him flat]].

* TakeOverTheWorld:
** The goal of Göring's Germany, and the German militarists in general, is to take over as much of the world as possible through military conquest.
** Also the goal of [[spoiler:Hyperborea under Schultz/Velimir. An insane, neopagan theocracy that cites "historical" Aryan claims on Palestine and most of Europe, and also seeks to conquer Asia (to crush the weak Asian races) and the United States (a "Jewish citadel").]]

* UnwinnableByDesign:
** While extremely difficult, most of Göring's tree can be successfully executed by the player, allowing the Reich to control more of the world than any other force in history. However, the final plans to invade Japan and America are quite simply impossible and serve as merely traps for the world to fall into a devastating nuclear war that will likely obliterate civilization.
** As revealed in their playthrough, [[spoiler:Himmler's vision of a purified Aryan world through nuclear fire is impossible to achieve. Burgundy lacks both the means and time to manipulate world events to their liking, with no focuses or decisions dedicated to the matter. Any nuclear war that ''does'' happen comes from outside events that weren't directed by the SS (except for Heydrich winning a ''steep'' uphill battle to take over Germany, which stands a good chance of falling apart for Burgundy if he garners enough support from the SS warlords against Himmler's plans) and the concept of Aryans dominating Earth only happens because the Burgundians who survive believe that only Aryans were even ''able'' to survive, prompting them to expand the definition of "Aryan" to include everyone who made it through the apocalypse, including Jews and black people.]]

* WeHaveBecomeComplacent: Göring's militarist allies believe that all problems that Germany faces on the moment, including degrading economy, mass youth protests against the Nazi regime and succumbing to Japanese and American influence, are happening because Germans got used to peace for too long, and, since it's a full-scale war that made Germany rich and powerful, the Reich needs to declare a global war again, preferably with the rest of the world, so it can re-achieve the lost greatness.

** In Wales' focus tree, one of Lewis' final acts is to pass a language bill that will emphasize Welsh as the national language, replacing English signs on the roads and English speaking lessons for children in schools. The tree makes it seem like the bill will pass through without a hitch, but because English has been the main language of Wales for centuries and very few Welsh can understand their own language, it results in mass protests. Whoops.

* {{NEET}}: As Nazis began utilizing forced labor to fix the crumbling economy, it became common for an ordinary German to not have any job, to the point where an entire generation was raised on the spoils of the slave system.

* PointOfDivergence: The [[UsefulNotes/RedOctober Russian Civil War]] goes on longer than in reality and Nikolay Bukharin comes to power and continues the New Economic Policy, which fails and leaves the Soviet Union under-industrialized, allowing Germany to steamroll Russia during World War II. This also allowed Hoover to defeat Roosevelt in the 1932 American presidential elections due to unflattering comparisons of Roosevelt's New Deal with Bukharin's NEP, paving the way for conservative candidate Joseph P. Kennedy to win the 1936 elections, causing the United States to remain isolationist and completely unprepared for the war with Japan and Germany.
