* Sheldon attempting to apologize to Missy for ratting her out and her angrily telling him she hates him. While Sheldon normally brushes off his sister's meanness towards him, he looks legitametly hurt at that comment. Especially sad since he wasn't being his usual arrogant or condescending self, he was legitametly giving his sister a heartfelt apology and she spat in his face about it. He doesn't even make any comments about it, just walks away dejected. His later attempt at apologizing to her is no better, with her completely ignoring him and returning the walkie-talkie she gave him when they got seperate bedrooms.

** It's also a tearjerker because Missy is clearly just as badly affected by her parents fighting as Sheldon is, but doesn't have any other way to express her hurt and frustration except at lashing out at her twin brother.

* Mary gets pregnant again, and she and George have barely had time to adjust to the news that they're going to have a new child before she loses the fetus. Her last scene in the episode is curled up on the bed crying as George holds her hand.

* Veronica's home-life is not pleasant. Her father abandoned her when she was a child and her mother's current boyfriend is an abusive drunk who's behavior is so bad that Mary invited her to stay at the Cooper house for a few days. At least we know from Sheldon's previous narrations that [[EarnYourHappyEnding she eventually escapes all that and goes on to live a fulfilling life]].

** It's also a tearjerker because it shows that, yes, George really does love his family that much. In a way, it makes what comes later even worse, because he's giving up basically his dream job in order to keep Mary happy, and it's unclear if she ever even thanks him for it.

* Tam's DarkAndTroubledPast: After the Vietnam War (or what he calls it, the American War), his father was sent to a reeducation camp because he fought with the Americans. Meanwhile, his mother, his sister, and he lived in poverty and sometimes starved. After his father was released, they reunited and fled to Thailand (dodging Cambodian pirates along the way) and were forced to live in a refugee camp. Eventually, they left for the United States and settled in Galvestone. His father bought a shrimp boat and started a business until the KKK burnt his boat and chased away his family. They moved to Medford in which his parents opened up a convenience store where they work 16 hours a day for seven days a week for very little money.

* Pastor Rob stops by the Cooper residence to pray with Mary, as a way to help her through this difficult time. George, however, [[MistakenForCheating assumes there’s something more going on between the two of them]], which leads to an argument between him and Mary, which Missy overhears. It ultimately culminates in George leaving the house, not even bothering to say where he’s going or when he’ll be back. After everything that’s happened, this is the final straw for Mary, who bursts into tears. Thankfully, Missy’s there to comfort her.
** And from what has been previously established by Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory, this was probably the catalyst that led to George having an affair, which Sheldon will discover the hard way.
