* Each issue has a flashback sequence where the personal issues for each Flex Fighter is shown:
** A younger Jake has a happy family outing with his parents, when his mom was still alive and reined in his dad's strict tendencies.
** Nathan becomes depressed because no one in the family volleyball game listens to him. His grandpa comes to comfort him.
** Ricardo's flashback takes place at his previous school before coming to Charter City. He is part of the debate team with his friend, Alastair, but he suddenly has to move before a championship. This disqualifies Alastair from the championship, which costs him a chance to go to college. Ricardo also gets chewed out on it by Alastair's sister, despite not being his fault. This makes Ricardo more jaded and cynical by the time he moves to Charter City.
* Despite the best efforts by the Flex Fighters to keep the Mantoids safe from the Extreme Hazard Unit, by the end of the story, they are under the control of Stretch Monster, who used the Flex Fighters to get a hold of them as Rook.
